Alder’s POV
I had a feeling that Cindy was hiding something from me, but I could see that she was debating with herself whether she would tell me it or not. That’s why I always wanted to be with her since I knew that if I did that, she might be able to open up and tell me whatever it was that was bothering me. The next morning, after she had marked me when we were busy with the celebration, I felt that something was bothering her. It was an instant because I still felt how happy she was, and then suddenly, she became uneasy.
Trying to hide my worry was extremely difficult. After we marked each other, we could easily tell how we were with each other without asking. Since I already knew that I could try to hide my emotions, unlike her. She’s new to our kind and how we really are. During my regular meetings with my beta and gamma, as well as the head of the patrol guards, I could feel her being worried and then angry. So, I had to excuse myself after she answered me through our link about where she was. There, I found Vlad talking to her. I went back to my meeting and told Lance to shoo that idiot away from my mate. He wanted to be with his mate already, so I know that he was angry at Vlad as well.
“Alder, I want to tell you something.” Finally, I intentionally took her back to our bedroom, hoping for this.
“I’m listening,” I replied, which made her crease her forehead.
“Are you waiting for this?” she asked,
“I had a feeling that you wanted to say something to me during our celebration, but for some reason, you held back,” I answered. She nodded her head and looked down, “Hey, my love. I know it because I felt you were uneasy.”
“I was just feeling guilty that I had to think this long and decide whether I should tell you this or not. But before that, I want you to know that I am worried about your safety, and there’s nothing in this world that I will not do to make sure that you’re going to be fine,” she said, which made me smile because I felt the same. Hearing it from her made me feel really good since we had a bad start.
“What you are feeling right now is exactly what I’m feeling towards you. But we need to be honest with each other. It will also help us discern our problems and make the right decision,” I replied.
“Mom talked to me,” she said. I was stunned because she never left the palace. How did they manage to talk to each other? “Through our minds. She called me, and I answered,” she added. Now that’s something. I never knew anyone who could talk about their minds unless they were just like us. And for that to happen, they had to be in the same pack and bonded to the pack. “I don’t know how she or we did that, but she told me to be careful at all times and that she was just there ready to help me and would never let anything happen to me.” she continued. I sighed in relief after that.
“It only means that she has nothing to do with the threats against us,” I replied.
“You believe her?” she asked, confused.
“Are you expecting that I will ever doubt her?” I asked, and she nodded. “Even Lorena was hesitant about her being a threat to you. She just didn’t want to set aside that possibility. Why didn’t she come to you personally?”
“I don’t know. She just said that our time is limited and will definitely get back to me once she has something to tell me and reiterated that I should take care of myself.”
“Then, it is possible that she was looking after our enemy as well. When she talks to you again, if ever she finds out where they were, all she has to do is to tell us, and I am going to take care of the rest.” I told her. She agreed with this since she was worried about her mom as well, and I knew that she wanted to meet her in person, too. As far as I know, she doesn’t remember anything about her mother, so she was looking forward to the time when they met. “Let’s hope that she will find something as soon as possible,” I added, and she smiled at me before she gave me a warm hug.
“Now that I already told you what’s bothering me, you can take me back to where you got me. I really wanted to walk around,” she said, and, with a heavy heart, I teleported us outside the palace on the path going to the garden. “Thank you very much. And don’t worry about me, OK?” she said before she turned her back to me and started walking.
I went back to my office and thought about what she had said. If it was really true that his mother wanted her to be safe, then I had someone outside who could freely investigate or gather information without giving the enemy any idea that we were working on finding them. For now, all I can do is wait for her to contact her again and hopefully have some good news for us. I am a little at ease now that I find out that her mother is our ally. Because I knew how much she cared for her mother, I felt scared about the future if we happened to meet and needed to fight. Well, she’s a witch, so she will probably fight differently, but the thought of having to hurt her will make me feel uncomfortable since I have to consider my mate.
The question is, will I tell this to others? Will I let Lorena know about this? I guess I will just let Cindy tell her aunt. They needed to talk about her since her aunt was hesitant about her mother being an ally. They have to sit down so she will be able to make her believe that her mother is really not an enemy.
“Alder,” Charles said as he entered my office with his mate, Mia. I am happy for them, and I am glad that my friend found her at the very right time. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that my mate was reborn into Clover’s body because she had become the way for them to meet.
“Yes?” I asked,
“Mia and I plan to go on a date,” he said, and I was stunned. It was the first time that he asked me about this, maybe because it was his mate, and I couldn’t say no to his request and deprive him of his well-deserved vacation.
“Any time you want, man,” I replied,
“Of course, it’s not going to be anytime soon. Unless we solve the threat, we won’t be able to enjoy it as well,” he replied,
“I can allow you any time, Charles. You should know that I am confident of this threat to us. I am not scared or worried because I know that I will be able to handle it well.”
“I know, that’s why we plan to do it after we settle it.”
“I didn’t want to leave Cindy right now. I know that she will be needing me and Sheena.” Mia said,
“Thank you for thinking about her. But I want you to know that she’s stronger than you think.”
“I had a feeling that everything would be over soon. After what the patrol guard had said and what they were doing right now, I am feeling confident that we will definitely win this war.” It was Charles. During our meeting earlier, the head of the patrol guards informed us that one of the guards sensed a different aura and a faint scent of a Lycan rogue. The guard’s mind linked him and asked him to send a tracker to confirm the incident. And the tracker told him that it was possible that they would use a portal when they left. But what made me think is the fact that they could use a portal. Why not use it to get into the territory?
After what Cindy had told me, I thought that it was possible that her mother was really just around the palace and watching her to protect her. I don’t think I need to wait for her to talk to Lorena. I should tell him myself about what my mate told me. I looked at Charles and said,
“Please call the others. There’s something I want to let you know.” he nodded, and he figured that it was important. I mind-linked Cindy and told her that I was going to get her now, which I did in an instant.
“What is it?” she asked, confused.
“We need to wait for the others. But I want you to know that I am going to tell your aunt about your mother.” I answered. She was still for a moment before she nodded her head. Good thing she understands.
Everyone was seated, and they were waiting for whatever I was going to say. I know that they will be shocked, but I hope that they will understand as well.
“Since everyone was here, let me tell you that Cindy had told me that her mother had contacted her.”
“What??!!” Lorena exclaimed and looked at my mate, “When? Where? Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked continuously.
“Calm down, Lorena.” I said, and she did, “She only contacted her through their mind. She warned Cindy to be careful at all times and that she was always with her.”
“Is this true?” Lorena asked, looking at Cindy, who nodded her head.
“It was in the morning after I marked Alder,” she said and told us again what they had talked about.
“Since we already know that Isabel was around the palace for we don’t know how long, it made me realize that she put some barrier of some sort around the palace territory so no one would be able to get in in any way,” I said,
“Like the portal?” Lance asked, and I nodded.
“What portal?” Cindy asked, and Mia explained to her. She was supposed to be at that meeting, but she excused herself. Maybe it was because of the fact about her mother.
“So, she really does love you.” Lorena said out of nowhere, “Your dad always tells me to trust Isabel that she will never harm Cindy, no matter what. But I still have reservations since I do not know which family she comes from. She never told us that she belonged to that family until before she left them,” she added.
“She loves me, Aunt Lorena,” Cindy said, smiling.
“Now, all we need to do is to contact her, and we have no idea how,” I said,
“Wait,” Cindy said suddenly, and she became quiet. “It’s mom,” she said. “She wants to talk to me,” she added.
