Third Person’s POV
“Can you tell her to come and talk to us?” Alder asked, and Cindy nodded before she went quiet again. The others let her talk to her mother, hoping they would be able to get more information about their enemy. Lorena still had reservations but hoped that everything was real. She didn’t want to disappoint her niece when everything turned out to be a fluke. She was sure that the pain it would give her would be unbearable.
She knew how much her niece missed her mother, especially when she remembered nothing about her except for the fact that her dad told her not to get mad at Isabel. They waited until Cindy looked at them. “She can’t right now. She said that, in the meantime, she had to leave to check on something. Once she is sure about that, she will be back and meet us in person.”
“Why does she need to leave? What is it that she wanted to check out?” Lorena asked,
“Mom said it was important, and she wanted you to look out here while she’s away.
What’s there to look out for?” Lance asked,
“Is there something going to happen?” Charles asked, too.
“During our celebration after I marked Alder, Mom said that her aunt was just outside the border along with a rogue Lycan.” Everyone besides Cindy looked at each other. It was what they were talking about earlier in their meeting, so they believed it. “She also said that her aunt was a very powerful witch. That’s why she can’t just show up here. She needs to know more about them, and she will be back once she is satisfied with all the information she was gathering.”
“How long is she going to take to know more?” Alder asked, “Why can’t she just talk to us and let us do it? It would be too dangerous for her,” he added.
“Mom can take care of herself. She is strong but not as strong as her aunt. She said that, unlike her, her aunt had mastered black magic and intended to use it for evil, while my mom only does it for knowledge. It wasn’t in her heart to hurt anyone. That’s why she had to find a way to defeat her, including the Lycan rogue.”
“What do I need to do?” Lorena asked,
“The barrier she put up around the border will weaken a little while she’s away. She wanted you to look after it because once it was gone, the enemy could teleport here whenever they liked. That was what prevented them from coming into the palace.”
“But how am I supposed to do that? I am not good with barriers, and I have never done that before! Well, besides the barrier that I put up in my house, it was only for unwanted visitors or anyone who wanted to listen to our conversation.” Lorena exclaimed. “Another thing, what do you mean by her aunt?”
“It was exactly as I said. She had an aunt and was the one who was working with the Lycan rogue.” Cindy replied,
“So she’s technically your grandmother?” Mia asked.
“I guess so. But Mom said that I don’t need to think about her since she is my enemy and will only harm me.” Mia and the others sighed in relief. They thought that it would be a burden now that they were certain about who their enemies were. And knowing that one of them was related to Cindy, they were worried that it would cause her hesitation in the future.
“Wait, you have to be clear about what I am going to do. I swear I never tried using a powerful barrier before. What do I need to do to maintain it while she is away? Argh, that mother of yours, that’s why I didn’t like her before. She always didn’t finish what she had to say.” Lorena said, annoyed, which made Cindy and the others laugh. She looks really worried and at the same time very funny. “Stop laughing, I am serious,” she added.
“Alright, stop it now.” Alder said and looked at his mate, “How is she going to maintain the barrier? Did your mom tell you?” he asked,
“Mom said that she was going to talk to her.” Cindy answered and looked at Lorena, “Now, my dear aunt. You had better go somewhere where you can be alone, and no one will be able to disturb you. Mom is in a hurry, and she wants to do the teaching really fast.”
“What! She’s going to teach me now. Is it that easy that I will be able to learn it instantly?”
“I don’t know, that’s what she said. Even if I don’t have a memory of how she is, I think she believes that you will be able to learn it.”
“Arghh, I really hate her!” Lorena said before she got up, “I’ll be in my room. Tell her to contact me whenever she’s ready,” she said before she left the king’s office.
The others were left behind and started to talk about how they were going to support Cindy’s mom after she had found out what she was looking for. Now that it was clear who their enemies were, they were sure to be prepared even more. As their witch enemy is a strong one, they thought that they needed Lorena even more. She will be the one they can count on inside the palace, while Isabel will be at their will.
Alder invited Lorena to eat dinner with them after she finished her lesson. Everyone looked at her when she joined them at the dining table, and they were all curious about how it went. “Don’t dare ask. I’m still working on it,” she said as soon as she took her seat. Then she glared at Cindy, “What does your mother think of me? Do I look good at studying? She decided to teach me only by talking through our minds, and she wanted me to learn everything in one go!”
“Why are you getting angry at me? I’m not the one who was teaching you,” she replied as if nothing.
“And I know exactly where you take that attitude of yours. Arrogant and always wanted to take the lead. That’s why my brother can’t do anything about her and then to you!” she complained, “I wonder how His Highness managed to put up with you.” she added, which made the others laugh. Cindy looked at her mate, so Alder had to stop.
“The way my dad puts up with my mom, I guess?” Cindy replied, smirking, which pissed off Lorena even more and was the reason for more laughter from the others.
“Yes, you are that happy. I’m warning you; I really have no patience for studying.”
“But you will still do it. The entire kingdom counts on you,” she replied, and Lorena couldn’t say no more. She lost her because she knew that she cared for her so much.
“I need to eat more to replenish my lost energy. You don’t know how tiring my lesson is because of your mother,” she said and ate. They were willing to give her whatever she wanted and needed. They knew that it would be too much for her, but she still did her best. They believe that in no time will she be able to pull out that spell and protect the palace with the barrier. Without them knowing, Isabel was having a hard time as well since she had to use more of her power and energy to contact Lorena. But she was hopeful that Lorena would be able to learn it in no time. She’s a witch, after all.
