Cindy’s POV
Roaming around the palace was one thing I liked to do the most. Although there was a threat to me, especially to my mate, I don’t care about that now. He made sure that he was fine, and I believed him. Why? I trust my mother. She’s going to come to me once she finds out something that may lead to hurting me. I actually didn’t understand everything that was happening. I mean, I am Cindy Mills, a billionaire and the daughter of the wealthiest man in the country who happens to have witch’s blood. Only he is not because he is a man. On the other hand, my mother was also a witch. A powerful one, I guess, since her ancestor managed to invade the previous queen’s mind and kill her.
What I can’t get is the fact that I am in Clover’s body, who was a pure wolf. Only my soul was in her body, so how come I have a witchy aura? Does that aura connect to my soul? Aunt Lorena told me that being a witch runs only with the women in our family. Since I have my mother’s blood, will I be able to bear a male witch as well in the future? I couldn’t wait for that to happen, but there were a lot of things that wanted to be answered, and I think that it would only happen if my mom and aunt were here at the same time.
I was walking on my way to the palace garden when I bumped into Vlad again. I had already forgotten about him, and he had to make me remember him. What does he want now? “Clover, I know that I have been too reckless before. I believe what Monique has told me and the rumors around the school that I am an idiot, but believe it or not, I want you. I only want you,” he said. He is really stupid. After all the ruckus he had caused, would he tell me that? And hasn’t this happened already? I looked around, thinking Alder was already there as well, but he wasn’t. So, I guess I had to deal with him myself.
“I already told you that I don’t care about any of that. I don’t care about you or about being your mate. I don’t care about what happened, even before I loved Alder. What made you think that what you are saying now will change anything?” I asked. I don’t need to sugarcoat my words to him since I don’t think that he is going to stop even after today, so I might just say what I wanted to say. “I didn’t love you then, I don’t love you now, and I will definitely not love you in the future. So if I were you, I would stop this madness and move on.”
“Clover, you don’t understand; we are mates, and we are meant to be together. The closer we are, the stronger we get. I should be the one who was with you; why did you have to mark him?” Talking to him now will go nowhere. I had to stop entertaining him from now on or, better yet, remove him from the training. It was the only thing I could think of to make him stop pestering me. No matter what I told him, it would only go to waste since he was adamant about taking me back. But what made him act this way? I was sure that I didn’t feel the bond that he was insisting on.
“I don’t feel anything for you. To me, you are just another wolf. I only love my mate, and that’s Alder, your king. Which made me your queen, so you had better clear your mind and do what you need to do. Stop this nonsense if you don’t want to be punished. You know that what you are doing right now is disrespecting Alder and me, right?” I hope this will get into his thick head and help him understand the gravity of his actions.
“What’s going on here? What are you doing here instead of attending your training? Are you thinking that you are already strong enough that you can ditch it?” Lance asked continuously. I didn’t feel his presence coming, and I wondered what he was doing there when he was supposed to be in a meeting with Alder. After Aunt Lorena told them about my mother and her family, my mate asked for a regular meeting to check on the patrol guard’s report. He wanted to make sure that everyone was safe, especially those wolves who were there to train.
“I just wanted to talk to Clover,” he replied, which angered Lance.
“That’s Your Highness to you. She’s your queen, so you had better address her as such. Being her previous alpha or mate doesn’t give you special treatment or any right to call her by her name. And because you are such an idiot, you don’t know who you are facing right now.” I looked at Lance, and I could see that he was pissed. He must have remembered the incident in the Raven Claw Pack. That’s why he looks hyped.
“I am not done yet; I will still try to get you back,” the idiot said before he left. I looked at our beta, and he was still following Vlad, leaving with his gaze. I don’t know what he was thinking, but he definitely looked pissed.
“What is it?” I asked when Vlad was totally out of our sight, going back to the training ground.
“Nothing, Your Highness. It’s just that I didn’t want to see him getting closer to you. His Highness will definitely get mad and might do something to him if he ever finds him near you,” he replied. I do understand and agree with him. But I had a feeling that it was more than that, so I looked at him and waited for a more acceptable reason. He sighed and said, “His Highness knew that he followed you here, and he had been here listening to your conversation. I was with Sheena, and he had his mind linked to me and teleported me here to interrupt you two.”
“You mean Alder interrupted your time with Sheena?” I replied, smirking. It was the main reason he was pissed because he had to leave Sheena and come here instead to shoo Vlad away. “Why didn’t he just come here himself? Why does he need to call you and do it for him?
“He can’t show his ability to anyone. It was a secret among the people he trusted. He is back at his office, so you can continue your strolling while I get back to my Sheena,” he said, turning his back to me. I shook my head, thinking how childish my mate was.
‘You don’t need to do that,’ I told Alder through our link.
‘I didn’t like the idea of him near you.’
‘You should have come here yourself, or you could just mind-link me and tell me to just leave him.’
‘What if he does something to you?’ He asked worriedly.
‘Then I will just call you out. Simple. I know that you can come to me in an instant. That’s why I feel confident going around on my own. Because I know that I can count on you.’ I replied, and then I felt his arms around me.
Before I knew it, we were already in his office. “Why did you bring me here? I wanted to walk around. It’s sunset, and the view is going to be very beautiful.”
“I miss you, my love. I keep you away from my mind during our meetings, and no matter how much I concentrate, I always see you. Is this what your mark meant?” He replied and inhaled my scent on the crook of my neck.
“You don’t just go and do as you please just because you can teleport.”
“What can I do? It was always you that I could think of.”
“We have our duties.”
“I know that; that’s why it pisses me off. I never thought that a day like this would come when I would want to become just a normal pack member who was always with my mate and did nothing but love her.” He said, and that flutters me: “I am not saying that I don’t want to be king anymore; I just want you to know that I always want to be with you.”
“I know that because that is how I feel, too. If only I could stop you from doing all your duties and just stay with me here in our bedroom, I would do it. But I know that we are not an ordinary couple; we hold more than our lives, and many depend on us. I just hope that this threat will end already.” I replied and sighed heavily.
