Cindy’s POV
“I’m sorry if my family caused you trouble,” I said, feeling guilty. We are in our bedroom, and after that meeting with my aunt, I feel like the world was thrown onto my shoulders. Because my family can’t hurt me, they would harm my mate. Now, I regretted the fact that I really was his mate. It worried me even more to mark him. I promised to make him mine once I found out who I really was. But I don’t think I can still do that.
“You have nothing to worry about, my love. There is no need for you to feel responsible for the threat. You have no idea about everything, and it all started hundreds of years ago.” He said this as he touched my face. I closed my eyes because I felt how much he loved me. I held his hand on my face before opening my eyes.
“You have been very understanding and loving ever since. I feel like I am not worthy of you anymore.”
“Don’t say that, my love. You don’t know how you make me happy. How do you complete me? You’re the best thing that has happened to me and the entire kingdom. Please don’t feel that way,” he said lovingly.
Before this, I thought he was lucky to have me. Imagine a billionaire like me, well known in the business world, mated to him while I felt powerful. I am a queen and a respected businesswoman in the human world. As I have grown to love him and enjoy being his queen, something like this has happened to me. “Don’t overthink it. We will get through everything if we are together. My grandmother died because she had no idea what her enemy could do. None of them did. But we did, and I have you. It’s more than enough for me to fight whatever force they have against them.”
I was speechless for a moment. I felt his worry. Maybe he thought that I would just disappear so he would be out of danger. He kissed me when he heard no response from me. I close my eyes and savor the moment. It makes me feel calm and at peace. Maybe it’s what I did to him too. “Everything’s going to be fine.” He said it in between our kisses. I kissed him back because I couldn’t help it, and I loved him so much. How can I say no to this man who made me realize what love is? He had given and shown me more of what I needed to believe in the word itself. This was even after being betrayed by Mike and my best friend Lin.
I don’t know my mother, but I remember before my dad died, never getting mad at her. He said she loved me more than anything in this world. That’s why he never married another woman after that. She made him promise to take care of me, and that’s what he did. That’s why I can’t believe what Aunt Lorena said. I know for sure that my aunt only said what she knew. However, it could have been better if dad told her everything he knew about Mom.
“Please do not think about anything else other than being my queen and the entire kingdom. Regardless of who your mother is, you are you, and what you have become is because of what your dad taught you. I’m sorry, but I have to tell you this.” He said, “After rejecting me repeatedly before, I tried to find everything about you so I would know what could make you happy and give it to you. According to the report, the angel was there for other humans during their time of need. You are a queen by birth, even if you grew up as a human. So never doubt your character because your ancestors didn’t define it,” he added.
“Thank you so much. I promise to do everything I can to protect what we need to protect. To stay with our people, our kind who rely on us. And I am sorry for being troubled by something I know I don’t have control over.”
“You are our queen, and you have all the right to feel troubled or anxious when it comes to our people’s safety,” he said. “It’s natural for you to care and worry about every species that you consider to be in danger. That’s how I feel too, but soon, you will feel inspired because of them as well,” he added.
He is always supportive and understanding of me, so I had to find out whether my mom had anything to do with what was to come. I had to make sure that I could deal with her if there was a possibility of her being a threat to my mate. I would want to be ready in case I had to fight her. This is because she’s my mother, and no matter how I see it, I still love her. Dad made sure I felt that way toward her.
“For now, I will handle the training on the ground. I didn’t want them to slack just because I was busy with things related to my safety. I am their king, and I had to do what I needed to do,” he said afterward. I smiled at him and nodded. Yeah, he had to. It’s one of the reasons I love him. He is selfless.
I was left in our bedroom and started to think about other things Dad told me about my mother. I remember that he was always happy just thinking of her, so it was natural for me to doubt or not completely believe my Aunt Lorena. I do believe that Mom’s family may have something to do with the threat, but not mom.
I walked to the balcony, where I could see the training ground. It was very convenient for our species to see further than normal humans do. I could see my mate half-naked as the she-wolf gazed at him. I felt jealous, but I knew he was mine and loved me. The trainees were also strengthening. They learn fast, and I should give credit to Lance and Charles as well. The two of them have been doing well and are very focused on our goal of making everyone stronger and wiser.
Sheena and Mia trained separately. I wanted them to be as strong as they could be because I didn’t want to lose them. Having already embraced them, as well as my good friends, I have treated them with the utmost respect. Especially Mia. As a human, she gets used to the palace quickly, but she is still new to this environment. Charles is doing a good job making her feel like one of us. The entire palace was very welcoming to her, even knowing that she was a broken human being.
As for the beta female, Sheena was strong even before she came here. I wonder what she felt now that the palace had to deal with her sister, Lica. They talked after that incident in Alder’s office, and I never had a chance to talk to her about that. Now that I think about it, I should do it now so she won’t think I don’t care about her family because that is entirely wrong.
With that in mind, I walked out of our bedroom, and I thought about asking her where she was. She replied, ‘I’m with Mia in the training hall.’ As I came down, I hurried along the kitchen path a little quicker. Just as she said, she was with our gamma female training.
They were both sweating, but Mia was the only one panting. I guess she will need a bit more time to get used to the training Sheena and I gave her. She had to do it for herself so she wouldn’t have to worry about her mate. That’s our main goal for this. We do not want our mates to worry about us when the time comes.
“You know you need to work on your cardio; you get tired easily,” I said when they looked at me.
“It’s easy for you to say,” Mia replied, and I chuckled.
“When I saw you working in the restaurant, I thought you were the kind of person who loves to move around. I guess I was wrong,” I said, and she laughed.
“I took the rest whenever I got the chance. I guess running around the restaurant is not enough for stamina building,” she replied.
“You must have been eating a lot in the restaurant while you worked there,” Sheena said.
“What? That’s what I thought when I applied there. But the manager would rather throw away the leftovers than let the crew eat them.” Mia replied, rolling her eyes.
“That’s how rich people are,” I told them.
“And it’s OK with you?” Sheena asked.
“No, it would be better if I gave those leftovers to people around the city who had no food on their plates.” I answered, “But as restaurant owners, especially those who were five stars or more, they would never take the risk of giving away their food, no matter how spoiled it was, in fear that their customers would complain that they were paying a huge amount of money for their menu and yet even the beggar could have it.” I added. That was true. I know a few feeling-privileged wealthy people who sued a restaurant when they saw them giving away leftovers to the homeless. It turns out that the food they offered the homeless was not on their menu. Since then, restaurants have been very careful with their food.
“Yeah, I know that.” Mia agreed. “Sad, but that’s the truth. I encountered that kind of customer, and, as someone who belongs to the bottom class, I feel sorry for myself and the others who were with me,” she added.
“So, you better get yourself stronger and fight for those who can’t,” I said. She looked at me and nodded her head. I know that she knew that there was something evil brewing around the palace, and I know that she wanted to help as much as I did. We are the three high-ranking females in the palace and the entire kingdom, so we have to do what we need to do. And that is to become a support to our mates who are ready to give their lives for us and all the species. So, whether my mom was with our enemy or not, I was determined to do the best I could. I am going to stay and be with my mate, King Alder.
