Third Person’s POV
“What took you so long to come and see me, Cindy?” Lorena asked, which made the mated couple’s eyes widen. They wondered how she knew about Cindy when she was far from her old body. “You seemed surprised. Why? Do you think it will be difficult for me to tell whether she was Cindy or Clover?” she added. “Sit down; I know you have a lot of questions.” And that’s what they do.
“How did you know it was me?” Cindy couldn’t help but start asking.
“I am your aunt. Do you think I will ever be able to recognize my own niece? And by this time, I think you already have an idea about who I am,” she replied, taking a sip from her cup. “You can drink your tea. I did that because I knew you would come. I was waiting for you.”
“I can tell that. Lance told us that you never open your door to anyone when he is here.”
“Yeah, the beta. He even asked some humans to help him.”
“Why?”
“For a simple reason: I didn’t want to talk to him. Even if it were like that, I would ensure that he got all the information he needed. I hope that you will rush here.” She replied casually, and Cindy realized she wanted to see her too.
“Why didn’t you just come and see me?” She asked again,
“No one will believe me. I was worried that you still didn’t remember me. And I know you will come to me once you’re awake.”
“What do you mean, awake?” It was Alder.
“She doesn’t remember anything from her childhood, right?” She asked, and they both nodded. “I was the one who did that at your father’s request. I didn’t want it at first, but he insisted. You’re his daughter, and I have no power over you, so I can’t say no to him.”
“Why did he ask you to do that? I had no idea he was a witch either.”
“He said he was worried that you would grow up like our other family members. He wanted you to live normally, just like any other human. As for him being a witch, no, he is not.”
“Why?”
“Only females in our family inherit our clan’s witch power. Males are plain humans.”
“Why?” she asked again.
“I don’t know either. No matter how much I tried to ask your grandparents, that wasn’t explained to me.”
“Dad is human,”
“Yes, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t be able to have a witch daughter. Regardless of your gender, when you are born in our clan or a child from our clan, you will still be a witch if you are a female.”
“So there’s nothing dramatic about erasing my childhood memories?”
“At first, that’s what I thought, too. But I learned about your mother. I think your father wanted you to forget about her.”
“For what reason?”
“She’s a threat to your life,” she replied, and Alder growled. “That’s why I had to talk to you myself. I didn’t want to trust just anyone about this,” she added.
“Why is she a threat to my mate?”
“I found out that she was the daughter of our clan’s oldest and most fervent enemy.
“But she’s her mother. Why would she want to harm her?”
“I thought that too, but I didn’t want to be too calm since I don’t know why she left. My brother felt devastated at that time, and if not for Cindy, I don’t know what he might have done in his life before he died,” she answered.
“Then I had to find out where she was,” Cindy said, which confused Alder.
“You just heard about her. She’s your clan’s number-one enemy. Why would you still want to see her?”
“Because she’s my mother, and I need to know why she had to leave and let Dad fall into so much agony and pain. I remember my father being very loving and compassionate, and I don’t see any reason for her not to love him. He didn’t even get another wife and spent his life caring for me.”
“Then I had to be ready for your stubbornness,” he replied.
“How did you accept that she’s not the Clover you thought was your mate? And why are you not marking him?”
“She was hesitant. She thought Clover was my mate, not hers because it was her body. But one of the elders in the palace had already told me that I was going to be mated to a witch. So, I believe her when she tells me she’s not the real Clover.”
“What do you plan to do, Your Highness?”
“She wanted to find her mother, and I would do that. She’s not going to stop unless she finds an answer to her questions. And I didn’t want her to doubt herself. As much as possible, I wanted her to feel complete.” Alder replied, and Lorena nodded her head. She was glad her mate and a Lycan king had adequately cared for her niece.
“I guess I can feel at ease now that I know that you are in good hands. I was troubled for months when I heard about your dad’s death. I always thought of you and planned to see you until the news said you had died.”
“You should have come and seen me.”
“I will never do that. Your father told me that I should be ready when I heard about your death since you might come after me.” She answered, and confusion was all over Alder and Cindy’s faces. “It sounds weird, yes. That’s what I thought, too, but I understand what he meant when rebirth and reincarnation come to mind. Your dad is the smartest man I know, so I believe in him.”
“Yeah, I think I took that from him too,” Cindy replied.
“There was nothing weird about what happened to you. Everything has a reason, and I think we need to be prepared for that reason,” Lorena said in a warning tone.
“I agree with you,” Alder said, looking at Cindy, whose eyes were on him too. “For that to happen to you means something big is bound to happen as well. The moon goddess used this kind of phenomenon to help us fight evil forces. Just like the unexplainable kidnappings that take place in every region.”
“Are you planning to stay here?” Cindy asked.
“You have to come with us to the palace. I think we will need you in the future, and you are Cindy’s only family member.” Alder said, “Please, do not be as stubborn as your niece.” He added, which made Lorena laugh.
“I will not say no to your offer. I promised my brother to take care of her when she comes to me.” She replied, “Oh, Your Highness. You know you will have a witch daughter in the future. Not a Lycan, but a witch. The boy will be your heir, of course,” she added.
“I don’t care about that. I will love them as long as they’re mine and Cindy’s. That’s something I’m sure of.” He replied, and that was enough for his mate to love him even more. After their conversation, Alder and Cindy return to the mansion with Lorena and plan to leave the next day for the palace.
Meanwhile, without them knowing, a pair of eyes hiding behind a tree watched them. She was full of sorrow and worry but had to hide herself. She already had an idea of where they were heading and planned to follow them and ensure their safety.
She wanted to get near Lorena’s house but felt the barrier surrounding it. She knew she wouldn’t hear anything, no matter how hard she tried.
