Alder’s POV
My mate is very impatient. The happiness on her face was evident when I told her to leave the next day. I am as excited as her and can’t wait to learn more about her. I don’t know how she would make her aunt talk to her if Lance said it was true. When my beta noted that he had asked humans, it meant that they were the ones who had positions. If that doesn’t work out, I am worried about Cindy when she gets disappointed.
“My love, don’t get your hopes up. We’re not sure if she will see us, OK?”
“I’m sure that she’s going to talk to me.” She replied, well if that’s going to happen, I will be very thankful. While Charles and Mia were in another car with us, Lance was left in the palace to take care of things for us. Lance told me that Lorena, Cindy’s aunt, lives in the most crowded neighborhood in Fairbanks. I never thought that she would choose to live there when she was a witch. As far as I know, they didn’t want to be acquainted with people much.
“Remember that you are in Clover’s body,” I reminded her, which made her look at me. I think she understands what I mean now.
“Oh yeah!” She exclaimed, “What am I going to tell her?” All I could remember was that my dad and I saw her. But whether she talked to us or not is another question.” She added.
“Then we have no choice but to use my rank on her if worse comes to worst.”
“How about Lance? Wasn’t he the second in command?”
“Yes, but there are things only I could do as King. Your aunt is a witch, so technically, she’s not within the Lycans’ jurisdiction. But because I’m a king, and it is my task to maintain balance among all species, I have authority over her.” I explained. “But that still didn’t guarantee us having a word with her. I don’t know how powerful she is, so I am unsure.” I added, and I could see her nodding in my peripheral vision. I am driving, so I have to focus on the road.
“Alder, thank you.” She said after a while.
“For what?” I asked and looked at her.
“For being with me on this.”
“I wanted to know it too, so there’s no need to thank me. Knowing your past will complete you and free you from doubting our bond, and eventually, you will accept and mark me. I will be the happiest when that happens.” I replied and continued driving. I didn’t want her to think I was pressuring her about marking me. I just wanted her to understand that I am doing this now because of myself, so she doesn’t need to thank me. This will make me happy for the rest of my life.
We arrived in Fairbanks and stayed in the mansion that I own. Because our family has been the richest in Alaska ever since we acquired some properties we can use. This is so we won’t need to seek human help if something like this happens. It was also to prevent them from getting any ideas about our kind. But because the vampires had been killing and making their existence known to humans, our species and other species were slowly being noticed by them.
There were Lycans surrounding the mansion, just like other wealthy humans. Their role was to protect and watch over what was happening to humans and when anyone bent or disobeyed the rules. “This is yours too?” Cindy asked after we got out of the car. I nodded my head and led her inside, where some omegas welcomed us. Mia and Charles followed us. “They were all Lycans. Did you intentionally stop them here?” she asked again, and I, of course, stopped and nodded. “I guess being a king is difficult.” She continued.
“It wasn’t really that hard if everyone learned to follow and obey,” I told her.
“I agree with you. Even after being a CEO for many years, I’ve seen and encountered different employees who still dream of doing what and how they choose to do things. It wasn’t easy to hire them only to fire them after doing something that harmed the company and their colleagues,” she replied.
“My love, you must have already known that those people needed their jobs. But I want you to know that firing them is not your fault. It resulted from their actions, and you have to let them know they are wrong. I punished everyone who had strayed, and whether they wanted to stay under my care was up to them. We are here to guide and look after them, and what they become and how they work is up to them.” I replied.
We sat on the couch in the living room as one of the omegas offered us our drinks. “Your Highness, don’t you have property here in Alaska, too?” Mia asked. There were a few omegas around, so she called her formally.
“No.” My mate replied, “Dad didn’t want to buy any property here. I guess it was because of my aunt,” she added.
“What could be the reason you lost your memories from your childhood? I hope it wasn’t because you were in danger?” Mia said.
“I hope so too because that would be a problem if it were. I mean, we didn’t want to have any kind of trouble with me, right?” she replied.
Cronos came, “Your Highness.” He greeted us, and we welcomed him back. “We are ready when you are,” he added. “Ms. Lorena is still in her house, and it seems she was expecting someone.” He continued. I looked at my mate, and she was looking at me, too. Did she know we would come to her?
“Thank you, we will leave in an hour,” I said, and he left.
“Why in an hour, why not now?” Cindy asked.
“You are always hurrying,” Mia said. “Really stubborn,” she added.
“Your Highness is anxious to know everything. Please understand her.” Charles said, and Mia kept quiet.
“I want you to prepare yourself for everything you may learn. I think she knew we would be coming, so I’ll take it that she was waiting for this moment.” I replied.
“Why didn’t she just go and come with Lance? So stubborn,” she said, and I laughed. Mia and Charles laughed, too, so I guess they know how stubborn she is.
“You may have taken after her.” she rolled her eyes at me, which caused me to laugh even more. I helped her calm down because I could see she was very excited. It will not be pleasant if she is disappointed after we meet her aunt.
“Remember that she’s your dad’s sister, and we need to know why you never had any idea about it,” I told her.
“Why are you telling me this? You’re going to be there, so you can ask her anything you want to know.”
“This is only if she dislikes talking to anyone other than you. She never gave Lance a chance, even if she knew he was my beta.”
“I will insist and make you come with me.”
“Don’t do that. We don’t know what information she holds, and we didn’t want that information to be divulged. If you are the only one she wants to talk to, I will respect that and wait for you.”
“Fine,” she replied. I don’t know why, but I don’t feel worried. Usually, if I know she will be with someone we know or I don’t know, I will never let her be alone. I will surely come to her.
After an hour, we left the mansion and headed to see her aunt. Just like Cronos said, her house door was open. According to Lance, it was closed when he was there, and the only thing that came to mind was that she was waiting for someone.
“I think there’s something in the door,” Cindy said, so I looked at the open door and saw nothing. Maybe her witch’s eyes saw it. To avoid scaring Lorena, we walked closer as my warriors were seated in cars a short distance farther away with Mia and Charles. It was the last thing we wanted to do since we needed something from her. And that is to find out more about my mate.
“Let’s go in,” she said, and I followed her. If something was inside the door, it must have been a spell forbidding anyone she didn’t want to see to enter. If I can’t come with Cindy inside, so be it. I will patiently wait for her outside that damn door. “Here we go,” she said, and we stepped into the house together.
