Orion’s expression turned gloomy. “So, is it you die, or me?”
Debra tightened her grip on the wheelchair armrest, her face also grim. “I’m so severely injured, but I chose to stay at home in a wheelchair instead of recuperating at the hospital because I’m afraid she will harm you…”
“If I die, then it’s my own fault. A son should repay his mother’s debts.” After saying this, Orion opened the door, his hand still on the doorknob. Instead of immediately opening it, he turned to look at his mother. “Don’t say anything in front of her. Just pretend you don’t know anything about this.”
Orion knew it in his heart. If Luna stopped seeking revenge, she might just leave directly. But he wanted to keep Luna by his side. Even if she had hatred towards him in her heart. Even if she was with him out of that hatred, he was willing.
“Mom, if Luna leaves me again because of you, I will never forgive you for the rest of my life!”
Debra immediately replied, “Okay, I can promise you that. I can even treat her as my own daughter, but you have to be cautious of her. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Orion mocked, “You don’t want me to get hurt, but you’re okay with hurting others?”
On this point, Debra couldn’t refute.
“I know I did something wrong, but it’s already happened. What do you want me to do? Should I really go to jail?”
Debra didn’t like her son always bringing up this matter to criticize her. Didn’t she have any self-respect or dignity?
“What did I say? I just don’t want you to get hurt. I’m only asking you to be more careful. Is that also my fault?” Debra couldn’t contain her anger as she covered her chest. “Even if I did something wrong, I’ve already been punished. Even if my injuries heal, I’ll be left with large scars all over. Your father was already indifferent towards me, and now it’s even worse. Will he still be willing to look at my injured and ugly appearance? Do I complain or hate Luna because of this? No, I don’t, because I know I made mistakes, and I know I deserve it. Does my concern for you also mean committing an unforgivable crime?”
Orion’s mood was terrible and that was why he became so sensitive. Now that he had calmed down a bit, he said, “I understand. I will be careful.”
Debra was still upset. “You can go ahead and eat. Don’t wait for me.”
Orion didn’t try to persuade her. “Didn’t the doctor instruct you? You should eat light meals. Ask the servants to prepare something specifically for you.”
Orion walked out after saying his piece, his gaze shifting towards the dining room. Luna sat there, fork in hand, eating silently. She seemed devoid of emotions, cold, distant and uninterested in anything. Orion approached and sat beside her, using his fork to pick up some food for her. “Have a little more.”
Luna continued eating, but she didn’t take the stewed pork that Orion had placed in her plate! Instead, she seemed to ignore it and continued eating other dishes. Orion discreetly glanced at her but didn’t say anything. After dinner, they each retreated to their own rooms. Orion stood by the window, arms crossed. He would listen to everything Luna said, without any objections. He had never intruded into Luna’s room to disturb her before. But now things were different; he was afraid Luna would leave him. After careful consideration, he realized that if he wanted her to stay for the long haul, he needed to give her a reason she couldn’t walk away from. For a woman, perhaps having a child would make her let go of her hatred towards herself and her mother.
With this thought in mind, Orion made up his mind. He went out for a drive. When he returned, he went to the kitchen, poured a glass of milk, and carried it upstairs, knocking on Luna’s door.
Luna asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s me,” Orion replied.
Luna got up to open the door. She always locked her door every night. Her guard was always up when she was here.
“What’s the matter?” She held onto the doorknob, showing no intention of letting Orion in.
Orion handed her the milk. “Have a glass of milk before you go to sleep.”
Luna refused, saying, “I’m already in bed, and I’ve brushed my teeth.”
Orion remained silent, just standing there without leaving. It was as if he was saying, “If you don’t drink it, I won’t leave.”
The two of them stood in a standoff for a few minutes. Luna finally took the glass, chugged it down, and then handed it back to him. “Satisfied?”
