Zane didn’t quite understand. Although he followed Freya upstairs, he still had doubts in his mind. “What are we going upstairs for?”
They weren’t professionals, so going up wouldn’t really help save anyone. There were already so many reporters downstairs, and they might just end up causing more trouble.
“Don’t you think it’s strange?” Freya looked at him as they entered the elevator.
“What’s strange?” Zane still didn’t see it. Maybe the situation wasn’t directly related to him, so he wasn’t sensitive enough.
“The person hasn’t jumped yet, but there are already a bunch of reporters here. How did they find out?” Freya didn’t think it was a coincidence. This wasn’t a residential area where people lived. If that person really wanted to die, they could have chosen any other place. Why jump here? And it was widely known that she and Elijah were going to have their wedding here. If someone died here, could the wedding still go on?
“Oh, you’re right.” Zane seemed to finally understand. He followed closely behind Freya. “Is it safe for us to just go up like this?”
“If it’s possible, I’d like to try and persuade the girl to come down,” Freya said.
“But if we can’t?”
Freya didn’t answer, but she already had an answer in her heart. If someone died here, the wedding definitely couldn’t take place here.
The elevator soon stopped. She stepped out.
There was no one inside. In a building this size, it was strange for there to be no one around. Freya did not believe that there was no one behind the scenes.
The woman standing on the ledge seemed to sense something and turned around. When she saw Freya, she smiled. “Long time no see.”
Freya furrowed her brow. “Calista?”
The woman was Thorne’s girlfriend.
Wasn’t Thorne already back with the Silverton family?
“Who made you do this, Thorne?” Freya went straight to the point.
Calista Winters laughed. “The methods you used, don’t you know them yourself? Didn’t you make him forget everything? Including me, how could he still make me do anything?”
Freya had no idea how Elijah dealt with Calista Winters. So she had no clue how Calista appeared here.
“What do you want?” Freya asked.
“What do I want?” Calista grinned hideously. “You imprisoned me and manipulated both me and Thorne. Now Thorne has been made to forget everything, including me. He’s like a fool. You have such cruel hearts!”
“Wasn’t he the one who did bad things first? He was perfectly fine, so who would harm him first? Your words don’t make any sense. We just gave him a chance to start afresh. That’s already merciful!” Freya defended.
“Heh,” Calista sneered. “So, according to you, I should be grateful for your generosity?”
Freya replied coldly, “You’re welcome.”
“Shameless!” Calista was furious. “Being imprisoned, tortured, living a life worse than death. How could I just sit back and watch you and Elijah live happily? You’re getting married, right? I won’t let you have it so easy.”
“So?” Freya’s expression turned serious. “You want to seek revenge on us with your life?”
“I have nothing left. The only thing I have is this life.” Calista’s gaze was determined. “As long as I can make you suffer, I’m willing to pay the price with my life!”
Suddenly, Freya burst into laughter, which was mocking and disdainful. To sacrifice her life just to cause a little inconvenience to others? What kind of foolish behavior was this?
“You’re laughing at me?” Calista exclaimed in anger. “What right do you have?!”
“Just watch, I won’t let you have it easy!” her voice bordered on madness. “As long as I jump from here, the news will be all over tomorrow. Will your wedding still go on?”
Freya turned around. Calista’s mind had been clouded by hatred. No matter how much she tried to reason, it wouldn’t penetrate. Since Calista had made up her mind, let her be.
“Freya!”
Seeing her leaving, Calista jumped in through the window and grabbed Freya’s clothes, pulling her towards the edge.
