As Elijah spoke, his thoughts drifted into memories. No matter how much time passed, he would never forget that day. Freya seemed to sense something. She looked at the box in her hand and unexpectedly felt a sense of anticipation. She slowly opened the box, then froze.
This was the jade pendant she had lost, wasn’t it?
Freya’s grandfather had given it to her, and she had been wearing it since she was one year old. So she remembered it clearly. She could confirm that it was her pendant. It wasn’t completely green; it had an icy green color, and the carving of a Buddha which was lifelike.
Freya held it in her hand. Elijah didn’t notice her, as he was caught up in his own emotions. And after that incident, he had become afraid of water.
But he was Elijah Silverton. How could he allow himself to be scared of something? He could only overcome his fears.
“The person who saved you was a little girl, right? Actually, it wasn’t her alone. If it weren’t for her grandfather arriving in time, she might have drowned in the pond with that boy.”
Elijah suddenly raised his eyes, his pitch-black pupils trembling slightly. He was shocked that she knew. Because he had wondered how that little girl he saw could have been so young, and even if she was good at swimming, she wouldn’t have been able to pull him out. It was just such a detailed matter…
Her Grandfather?
Elijah remembered Freya’s grandfather. He was Jack’s driver and had access to the Silverton family. Elijah seemed to figure it out now — Freya was the one who saved him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t know the details so clearly.
Elijah’s voice was low and hoarse, “I searched for you… for a long time back then.”
“My grandfather probably knew that someone had harmed you and didn’t want to get into trouble, so he forbade me from talking about it. He didn’t say anything either.”
Their eyes met. Freya smiled. But Elijah’s expression was complicated. He probably never expected that his connection with Freya was destined so early on. Perhaps he was grateful that it was her. It had always been her.
Freya got up from the table, holding the jade pendant. “I want to give this pendant to Kai. My grandfather probably never expected that I would end up with you.”
Elijah grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms.
“If I had known, I would have shown it to you earlier.”
Freya held onto his neck and said with a smile, “It’s not too late now.”
After all, they were both so young. They still had a long future ahead of them.
Elijah smiled and gently kissed her cheek. “Do I owe you a life?” asked he.
“More than just one,” Freya rested her head on his shoulder. “You can make it up to me for the rest of your life.” She looked at the halo of light on the ceiling and said, “From now on, you should be nice to me.”
“What if I fail to? What will you do to me?” Elijah asked with a smile.
Freya thought for a moment and said, “I’ll make you beg for death, but death will be out of reach.”
“You want to torture me?” Elijah asked.
“Yes!” Freya laughed. “Do you believe I can do it?”
“Yes, I do. But I won’t give you the chance.”
“Let’s go see if Kai is asleep.” Freya held his hand.
Elijah followed her out of the study and into Kai’s room. Kai had just finished bathing and was playing on the bed. Freya sat on the edge of the bed, and Kai jumped into her arms. She held her son and showed him the jade pendant. “Do you like it?”
Kai blinked his big round eyes, not understanding what it was, but looking at it innocently. Freya put the pendant around his neck. She hoped that her grandfather’s expectations would be passed down through Kai. And in the future, Kai could pass it on to his own children.
It was getting late, and Elijah told Freya to rest well.
…
The next morning, Freya was pulled out of her sleep by someone forcefully lifting her from the bed.
“What are you doing?” she rubbed her eyes. As she spoke, she saw the person standing by the bed.
It seemed like a surprise, yet also a shock!
“How could it be you?”
