As soon as Zane saw Luna come out, he immediately ran over and embraced her, disregarding everything else. “Do you remember me? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have that look in your eyes today. I thought I was mistaken, but thankfully, you’re here.”
Luna said, “I don’t remember you.”
Her words undoubtedly poured cold water on Zane. He couldn’t believe it at all, “You may not remember anyone, but you can’t forget me!” He held Luna’s shoulders and stared at her intently.
Luna didn’t evade his gaze and met his eyes. “Although I don’t remember you, I know that you’ve been kind to me and always told me the truth. I saw your excitement when you first saw me and your anger towards Orion. I know you’re a good person.”
Zane’s eyes welled up with excitement.
“I’m not just a good person, I’m also the person who loves you, the person who wants to protect you in my heart.”
He held Luna’s hand, “Come with me.”
Luna shook her head, “I can’t go with you.”
Zane instantly became unsettled, “Why? Are you going to be with Orion? He’s been married before, he abandoned you. He hurt you so much, and yet you still want to be with him?”
“No,” Luna explained, “I lost my memory because someone wanted to kill me. I didn’t die, I was saved, and that’s why I lost my memory. And the person who wants to kill me is Orion’s mother. I’ve decided to seek revenge, so I can’t go with you.”
Zane looked at her, “But won’t you be in danger? What if you’re discovered?”
“No, Orion doesn’t know that I know his mother harmed me. I pretend to know nothing, so he doesn’t suspect me. I have the perfect opportunity to strike.” Her gaze was resolute. “I won’t let him get away with it!”
“But what if it’s uncovered? Won’t you be in danger then? Let me help you with your revenge. You should leave him as soon as possible,” Zane genuinely worried. On one hand, he worried about Luna’s safety, after all, she had already been harmed once. On the other hand, he worried about her being in close proximity with Orion, fearing that their past feelings might resurface.
“I want to take care of it myself,” Luna smiled. “Don’t worry about me.”
“How can I not worry!” Zane earnestly said. “Come with me, I’ll protect you.”
Luna shook her head, “Maybe you can, but this is my own matter, and I want to handle it myself.”
Zane wanted to say something, but Luna spoke first. “We can contact each other by phone.”
“I want to see you. Can you come out anytime?” Zane asked.
“If it’s convenient, I will meet you,” Luna replied.
Reluctantly, Zane agreed, but he couldn’t help but worry. He advised, “You must keep your distance from Orion and not let him have any inappropriate thoughts about you.”
Luna nodded, “I know. I will protect myself. I feel disgusted whenever he gets close to me, so nothing will happen between us.”
Zane nodded, “That’s good.”
“It’s getting late, you should go back!” Luna said.
Zane didn’t want to leave, “I want to spend a little more time with you.”
“We’ll have plenty of opportunities and time in the future. If we’re seen together, it might raise his suspicions and cause unnecessary trouble,” Luna explained.
Zane knew that the best thing he could do was not hold Luna back. Although he was reluctant, he left.
Zane didn’t go back to his place. Last time, he had bet his anger and rejected the job arranged by Elijah for him. But if he continued to idle around like this, how could he protect Luna? He needed at least a decent job so that he could have a future with Luna. So he went to Freya’s place.
However, when he arrived at her home, Freya wasn’t there.
…
At an upscale Western restaurant, Freya and Adam sat face to face.
“Your face has recovered nicely,” Adam said.
Freya no longer needed bandages on her face. The skin that had undergone surgery still had a reddish hue. Once the redness subsided, it would be mostly healed. Even if there were some scars, they would be faint and not easily noticeable.
“You have excellent surgical skills,” Freya complimented.
“You were beautiful to begin with,” Adam smiled. “The food at this restaurant is delicious. Thank you for treating me.”
Freya smiled lightly, “We agreed that if the surgery was successful, I would treat you to a meal.”
At that moment, a black car parked outside the restaurant. The car window rolled down halfway, revealing a face with distinct features. Sharp black eyes peered into the restaurant, focusing on the man and woman sitting face to face.
