Could it be Elijah calling her?
Freya instantly perked up.
“Hello?”
But on the other end was Elowen’s voice.
“Freya, did you go out at night?”
Freya murmured softly. She tried to conceal her disappointment.
“What’s the matter? Do you have to go out? Don’t you understand how you should behave? Don’t you know what you’ve become?” Elowen reproached.
Freya tried to please her with a smile. “I understand now, I won’t do it again next time.”
“You always say that, but I never see you follow through.” Elowen didn’t want to scold her. She was just worried about Freya.
“Mom, did you call me for something?” Freya changed the subject.
“Yes, are you coming back soon?”
“Yes.”
“You’ll find out when you get back.”
Freya said, “I’ll be home soon.”
After hanging up, she hesitated for a moment and dialed Elijah’s number again.
Country F.
The headquarters of Skyline Co. Was a grand building that exuded even more grandeur than those back home. In the CEO’s office, the decoration had a distinctive Country F style, unique yet dignified. Elijah had come this time to cool off and also because there were work matters that needed to be dealt with here.
The spacious desk was piled high with thick files. Xander stood by, muttering to himself, “Is Evan not going to come here?”
As he spoke, he looked at Elijah. Elijah had brought him here and didn’t send him back. As soon as Xander said this, Elijah knew what he was thinking and gave him a cold glance.
“Evan is more reliable than you when it comes to work. You can stay here!” Said Elijah.
Xander, “…”
The phone placed on the desk suddenly vibrated. Elijah raised his gaze and saw the caller ID, his eyes freezing. He probably missed her. Despite being angry, he couldn’t ignore her. Even though he had already answered the phone, he feigned indifference, lowering his voice heavily. “What’s the matter?”
Freya couldn’t contain her eagerness and hesitation, calling out his name again. “Elijah?”
She pursed her lips lightly. “There’s nothing wrong, I just wanted to say that you didn’t even say goodbye when you left.”
Silence came from the other end.
Freya lowered her gaze and asked, “Are you mad at me?”
A cold response came from the other side. “No.”
Freya smirked, knowing that he was bothered, yet intentionally asked, “Do you miss me?”
“…”
Even if he wanted to, Elijah couldn’t admit it for the sake of his pride.
“I just arrived.”
Freya smiled and said, “Isn’t there a saying that goes, ‘One day apart feels like three autumns?'”
Elijah held the phone, lazily leaning back in his chair, his gaze leisurely fixed on the scenery outside the window. “Do you miss me?”
Freya answered, “Of course.”
Elijah’s heart instantly softened. Half of his anger dissipated.
“Mm.” His voice noticeably lightened.
Freya pursued him with another question, “When will you come back?”
“There are some work matters that need to be dealt with, so it’ll be a few days…”
Freya playfully teased, “Didn’t you say it would take half a month?”
Elijah couldn’t help but laugh at her provocation. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
At this point, the car had already arrived back at her place and stopped. Freya got out of the car. “Finish your work quickly and come back early. I miss you.”
Hearing her words, Elijah wished he could fly back immediately. But for now, he could only suppress his response. “Mm.”
“Should I hang up now?”
“Mm.”
Freya hung up the phone, put away her mobile, pushed open the door, and walked into the house, only to be astonished by the scene in the living room.
“Mom, what’s going on here?”
