It was already 8 PM, and Elijah hadn’t come back yet. Freya called him, but couldn’t get through. She asked Evan and found out that he had already left without even saying goodbye. He left quietly, leaving Freya with a bitter taste in her mouth. This made her unable to sleep at night. She stared at her phone, hoping for his call. However, instead of Elijah’s call, she received a call from the hospital.
“May I ask if you are Orion’s friend or family?” the voice on the other end asked.
Freya was taken aback and asked, “Who is this?”
“This is the emergency center. We found your number in the patient’s phone. If you’re a relative, please come over,” the voice explained.
Freya furrowed her brows and asked, “What happened to him?”
“There was a fire. Everyone got injured. He is currently at the First Municipal Hospital Emergency Center,” the voice replied.
“I understand. I’ll come over right away,” Freya said.
Freya quickly got up, got dressed, and had the driver take her to the hospital.
The roads were deserted at night, so they arrived quickly. Freya hurriedly walked in, with the driver following closely behind. After inquiring, she learned that Orion was still in the examination room and operating room. She couldn’t see him at the moment. All she could do was wait. It wasn’t until after four in the morning that Freya finally saw Orion. He had a large burn on his arm, which had already been treated. He was lying weakly in the hospital bed.
“What happened?” Freya found it unbelievable. The Russo family’s house was a standalone villa, and during the renovation, they should have installed fire alarms. Even if the fire alarm malfunctioned, it shouldn’t have been difficult to escape, considering it wasn’t a high-rise building.
Orion didn’t know what happened either. He had been sound asleep and woke up choking on the thick smoke, feeling weak all over. As a former doctor himself, he knew his body wasn’t quite normal. But at that moment, he didn’t have time to think. He first carried Luna out, and when he went back to carry his mother, he got burned.
“I’m not sure of the specifics of how the fire started. The police are investigating.” Said Orion.
“What about Luna? Why haven’t I seen her yet?” asked Freya.
“Don’t worry, she’s fine. She just got scared and fainted. She still hasn’t woken up. You can visit her a bit later and comfort her while you’re at it,” Orion said.
“Fainted from being scared?” Freya furrowed her brows. Luna used to be a forensic expert and faced all sorts of corpses every day. She wasn’t the type to be scared by a fire.
The Luna she knew wasn’t timid. In a situation like this, she would definitely handle it calmly. How could she faint from being scared? It was simply inconceivable. Could it be amnesia, changing her personality?
Orion noticed Freya’s distraction and asked, “What are you thinking about?”
Freya snapped back to reality and said, “Nothing.”
“You should go back and rest,” Orion said. “You just had surgery not long ago and need to recuperate.”
Freya wasn’t feeling sleepy anymore. “I’ll go back after I finish seeing Luna.”
“Or, I can have a bed brought in, and you can take a nap?” Orion suggested.
Freya declined, saying she would just sit for a while and leave after seeing Luna.
Orion got out of bed.
“Where are you going?” she asked.
“I’m going to check on my mom,” Orion said. During the fire, he had saved Luna first, and when he went to save his mother, she was already badly burned. His mother was in critical condition, and he had to go see her to ease his worries.
Freya nodded. “Go ahead.”
After about half an hour, Luna woke up, and Freya went to see her.
