Freya stared coldly at the secretary’s retreating figure. Her expression was no longer calm and composed, but rather indifferent. Freya realized she needed to come up with a solution quickly since Dina was becoming more and more brazen. Evan was here, and there was likely danger.
“That secretary earlier, she claimed to be Evan’s best friend. It seems like you don’t like her?” asked Sacha.
“Our personalities clash.” Freya didn’t explain their relationship further. She couldn’t let Dina know that she already knew she was the one responsible for harming Evan, in case she lashed out in anger or did something more extreme.
“Do you stay here every day?” asked Freya.
Sacha answered, “Yes.”
Even with that, Evan still might not be safe here. Freya considered finding him a different place. Freya looked at Sacha’s massage technique and couldn’t help but say, “You’re very skilled.”
“I studied with a nurse for a long time.” Sacha replied.
Orion had found a nurse for Evan, costing fifteen thousand dollars a month. They were highly professional in taking care of people and giving massages. That was why Sacha had become so good at it.
Freya looked at her. “You must really like Evan, don’t you?”
If she didn’t genuinely like him, how could she have come all this way to take care of him with all her heart and effort after he got into this situation?
Sacha blushed slightly. A hint of red spread across her cheeks. She didn’t know if she really liked him, but when she found out Evan had gotten into trouble, she had been very anxious. Taking care of him here was something she was willingly doing. Perhaps, she did like him a lot. Otherwise, how could she do all this?
“I’ll be leaving now,” Freya said.
Sacha nodded.
As she walked to the door, Freya instructed Sacha, “Try not to leave the ward if possible.”
“I’m mostly in the room. Even if I’m not here, the nurse will be.”
“Okay, I suspect someone wants to harm Evan, but I don’t have any evidence yet. So, I’m afraid he might still be in danger. I’ll have Orion arrange for him to be moved elsewhere…” Freya explained.
“Who would want to harm him?” Sacha quickly stepped forward in front of Freya. Her gaze was intense.
Freya comforted her softly, “Don’t get worked up. I’m investigating. The things I just told you, you can’t say them or show them. Understand?”
Sacha nodded, “As long as it’s for his own good, I’m willing to do anything.”
Freya patted her shoulder, “I have other matters to attend to. I’ll be going now.”
Sacha nodded again.
Freya walked out of the ward, left the hospital, and got into the car.
Back at home, she saw Zane holding the dog, playing with Kai. The little one seemed to be happy, laughing cheerfully. His eyes were sparkling.
Freya walked in, took off her coat and scarf.
Linda took them from her and said, “You’re still in your recovery period, it’s not good to go outside so often.”
Freya told Linda, “I won’t go out anymore.”
Linda hung up the clothes, and Freya walked inside. “Zane, come with me.”
She called Zane into the study.
“What’s up? Kai and I were having a great time playing. Oh, and last time I saw you, you had a big belly. Now, it’s gone. Did you give birth? Is Kai’s sibling a brother or a sister? Why haven’t I seen the baby?” Zane asked.
Freya’s heart skipped a beat when he mentioned the child. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed, depriving her of all oxygen, making it hard to breathe. Her face turned pale.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Zane asked.
Freya raised her hand, gesturing for him to be silent. She needed a moment to calm down. Zane helped her sit on a chair, and then he asked, belatedly, “Did something happen to the child?”
Freya’s eyelashes were wet, and she didn’t know when they had become moist. Her voice was hoarse as she said, “Don’t mention this to my mom.”
Zane nodded cautiously. “I understand. What happened to the child?”
“It seems like someone took him away.”
That was Freya’s hope. She believed her child was still alive. As long as the baby was alive and well in this world, they would eventually find him. They would have a chance to see each other again. Zane fell silent, not speaking for a long time. Freya also calmed her emotions.
“What can I do for you?” Zane asked.
Freya looked at him and said, “I actually need your help with something right now.”
“Tell me,” Zane’s expression turned serious, no longer carefree.
“You said the secretary harmed Evan, and the driver she bribed, where is he now?”
“He’s dead.” Zane said.
“What?” Freya quickly realized, “Was he silenced?”
“After the car accident, the police got involved. After investigation, it seemed like there was a problem with the car. The driver wasn’t held responsible, and he was released shortly after. I wanted to catch him so I could use him to threaten the secretary, but the driver died of a sudden heart attack. Whether it was a genuine heart attack or not, no one knows. He’s long been buried.”
“If it was Dina’s doing, it only meant that she was ruthless. We all need to be careful around her,” Freya said.
“Why don’t we just fire her directly with Elijah?” Zane suggested.
Freya thought to herself, it was not that simple. If Dina was fired, she might go crazy and do even crazier things.
“Do you know why the secretary wanted to harm Evan? Did Evan find out some secret about her?”
“I really don’t know about that.” Zane said.
“It shouldn’t be difficult to get rid of her, right?” Zane took out his phone. “Look, I have our chat records here, it’s enough to prove that she is the one who harmed Evan.”
Indeed, these chat records could indirectly prove that the secretary harmed Evan. To permanently solve the problem, it would be best to find other evidence of her crimes. That way, they could send her away forever.
“Zane, you should find a way to get close to the driver’s family and investigate whether the driver really had a heart condition. If the driver did have that condition, it might be impossible to charge her with murder.”
“Freya, I actually think the secretary can still be useful,” Zane shared his thoughts. “I have a feeling that Luna’s disappearance is related to the Russo and Holt families, but I don’t have any evidence. However, I can use her to seek revenge on Orion and Haley. I have successfully caused discord in their marriage, and it won’t be long before they get divorced.”
Freya stared at Zane. “You unexpectedly caught her in a compromising situation to blackmail her. While she may be under your control, she is not a good person. Just look at how cruel she was to Evan.”
The secretary and Evan must have been colleagues for a long time, however, she was able to harm Evan like this. It showed that Dina had an exceptionally malicious heart.
“You should also be careful,” Freya warned.
“I know,” Zane said. “Should I leave now?”
Freya nodded.
The door closed, and Freya sat for a while, her mind buzzing. She pressed her temples to soothe the throbbing. Feeling a bit better, she stood up with the support of the armrest. Inadvertently, she glanced at the notebook on the desk and walked over to pick it up. She flipped it open and saw Elijah’s handwriting.
She didn’t know Elijah still kept a diary. It was not like his character, Freya thought. Driven by curiosity, Freya carefully read the contents. It turned out not to be a diary, but rather some notes from his work. Just as she was about to put it down, a photo fell out from inside!
