The photo fell to the ground, and Freya looked down. The person in the photo caught her off guard. It took her a while to snap out of it. How could her photo be tucked inside Elijah’s notebook?
Freya bent down to pick it up, looked at it, and confirmed that she wasn’t mistaken. She quickly tucked the photo back in. Without further looking, she swiftly placed the notebook back on the desk. Turning around, she left the study in large strides. She walked fast and didn’t notice Elowen standing at the door.
“Freya, what’s wrong?” Elowen asked with concern. “Why are you so agitated?”
“Oh, it’s nothing,” Freya immediately composed herself upon seeing Elowen.
“Somebody is looking for you,” Elowen said.
Freya was about to ask who it was when she saw Orion standing in the living room.
“I got off work early, so I came over first,” Orion said.
Freya asked Elowen and Linda to take Kai to play in the neighborhood for a while. “I want to talk to Orion alone.”
“Sure,” Elowen said as she went to pick up Kai and left with Linda.
Once they were gone, Freya sat down on the sofa in the living room. “Please have a seat.”
Orion sat down. Both of them looked at each other in silence. Freya spoke first.
“I want you to find another place for Evan, preferably somewhere more secretive, where no one can find him.”
“Why? Isn’t his current location good enough?” Orion asked.
“I’m afraid someone might harm him, so it’s better to find a different place. If you don’t have a suitable location, I can ask Sivin for help. Even though he’s retired, he should still be able to arrange a secret ward for him…” Freya explained.
“I can do it,” Orion interrupted Freya before she could finish her sentence. He looked at her seriously. “I asked to meet you because I wanted to talk to you about Luna…”
“You found Luna? Where is she? I want to see her. Zane has gone to great lengths to find her, and he dragged the entire Stone family into it. If I see her, I will definitely scold her. Why did she hide and make us all so worried?” Freya spoke passionately, a mix of excitement and blame.
“Dragged the entire the Stone family into it?” Orion couldn’t believe that the entire the Stone family company had been ruined.
“Zane sold everything that could be sold of our family’s assets,” Freya said. She didn’t really want to tell Orion how much the Stone family had lost. She wanted to tell him how much Zane had sacrificed for it.
She used to think Luna was older than Zane, and his feelings for Luna might be unreliable. But now, she believed that Zane truly loved Luna. If Luna came back, she would support Zane in pursuing her. Anyway, Orion’s actions had disappointed Freya deep down.
Orion slowly lowered his head. Compared to Zane, he hadn’t done enough. He felt even more self-blame, thinking that he had caused this. If he had stopped looking for Luna after she left, maybe today’s tragedy wouldn’t have happened.
“Luna…” he struggled to speak, but the words choked in his throat. His eyes slightly reddened.
Freya seemed to have a bad feeling about this.
“What do you want to say?” she asked, looking at Orion.
In a hoarse voice, Orion said, “She won’t come back…”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Freya didn’t want to believe this news at all.
Orion lowered his head. “I’m not lying to you. I wish it were false, but… it’s true.”
Bang!
The door of a bedroom suddenly swung open forcefully. Hearing the sound, Freya looked over and widened her eyes. “Zane? You… you didn’t leave?”
“If I had left, how could I have heard Orion’s words?” Zane stared at Orion, anger visible on his face. It was as if lightning was about to strike, his skin around his eyes tensed like it was going to crack, and his round eyes seemed ready to burst out. But the next moment, he rushed forward, grabbed Orion’s collar, and swiftly delivered a punch to Orion’s face, like a lightning-fast strike.
A muffled sound echoed through the room. The taste of blood spread in Orion’s mouth. Zane held him down, pressing him to the ground, delivering two more punches. Freya quickly reacted and rushed to pull Zane away. “Calm down!”
“How can I be calm!” Zane roared. “It’s all because of him. He got married and still tried to get involved with Luna. That’s why Luna got hurt. It’s all because of him… all because of him.”
At this moment, Zane had lost all reason. All he wanted was to kill this culprit!
“Get away from me!” Zane pushed Freya aside.
Freya couldn’t maintain her balance and fell onto the sofa, aggravating the wound on her abdomen. It pained her, and she furrowed her brows. But Zane didn’t notice her discomfort at the moment. He continued relentlessly, throwing punches at Orion. Orion didn’t resist at all; he felt that Zane was somewhat right. If he had stayed away from Luna after getting married, maybe he wouldn’t have caught Haley’s attention, and this tragedy wouldn’t have happened.
“You’re right. It’s my fault,” Orion admitted.
“Do you think that by showing remorse, I’ll let you off? Impossible!” Zane squeezed Orion’s neck. “If you truly want to repent, go find her and beg for her forgiveness on your knees!”
Freya struggled to get up and scolded in a low voice, “Zane, that’s enough! Even if he dies, it won’t change what has already happened. What you need to do now is find the real killer who murdered Luna!”
Zane froze. It was as if Freya’s scolding had awakened him.
“The real killer who murdered her?”
“Yes,” Freya said, disregarding the pain in her abdomen. She walked up to him, gently gripping his shoulder. “Orion, no matter how much he may be at fault, he wouldn’t harm Luna. If you want to avenge her, find the true culprit.”
Orion looked at them. “I am the true culprit.”
What difference was there between what his mother did and what he did?
“Don’t think I won’t do anything to you!” Zane thought Orion was provoking him.
Orion said, “I know you would, but give me some time. I have something to take care of. After I handle it, do whatever you want with me.”
Freya took the opportunity to pull Zane back. “We’re all devastated, and in times like these, we need to come together to bring down the person who harmed Luna.”
Zane looked at Freya and gradually calmed down. He still gave Orion a fierce glare before releasing him.
Freya went to pull Orion and asked, “Are you okay?”
Orion staggered to his feet and whispered, “I’m fine.”
“I’ll get the first aid kit to clean up the wounds on your face.”
Orion held onto Freya. “I’m fine, don’t worry about me.”
Freya looked at him for a moment and sat back down.
“How did you find out that Luna was murdered?” asked Zane.
Freya also wanted to know. Both of them stared at Orion.
“Could there have been some mistake? Did you receive incorrect information?” Freya clung to a glimmer of hope.
Orion wiped his mouth and said, “The source of the information… is reliable.”
“Who is it?” Zane clenched his fists, ready to confront someone head-on.
Orion knew that confrontation wouldn’t solve the problem. He looked at Zane and said, “I will give you an explanation, but give me a little time.”
Freya saw that Orion had a plan and quickly spoke up before Zane, “We’ll give you the time, but you must give us a satisfactory explanation when the time comes.”
“I see.” Orion replied firmly.
Freya stood up. “I’m tired. You guys can do whatever you need to do.”
She walked back to her room. Closing the door behind her, she leaned against it. Her eyes welled up with tears for a moment.
Her phone suddenly rang, and she took it out to see that it was Elijah calling. Freya immediately wiped her face and made an effort to compose herself before answering.
“Hello?”
