“Zane… how is it you?” Freya exclaimed in shock, quickly followed by reproach. “Where did you run off to?”
Zane winced in pain, his arm almost twisted out of its socket. “Freya, can you tell them to let go of me first.” He pleaded.
Freya waved her hand, signaling the bodyguards to release him. They exited the room.
Turning her attention back to Zane, Freya demanded, “What happened? Why did you sell the house?”
“I thought you could help me find Luna, but you disappeared again, and Elijah is also out of the country. There was no one I could turn to, so I decided to find her on my own. But there were no leads, no trace of her disappearance.” Zane explained, frustration evident in his voice. “I was feeling down and ended up at a bar, where I coincidentally saw Elijah’s secretary acting suspiciously with a man in a corner. My curiosity got the better of me, and I followed that man, and…,” he paused for effect.
Freya urged him on impatiently, “Well, what did you see?”
“I saw that man driving a truck deliberately crashing into Elijah’s assistant, Evan Drake.” Zane revealed.
Freya’s face paled instantly.
She stared at Zane intently, barely blinking. “Are you sure? Did you see it clearly?”
“Of course, and now I have the secretary’s secret in my hands. I used that leverage to sow discord between Haley and Orion, and made Haley pay a price,” Zane said with a hint of pride, but his demeanor quickly turned dejected. “As for selling the house, I had no choice. I needed to keep a close eye on that secretary’s every move, so I had to hire people to help me. And if I wanted them to do my bidding, I had to pay. With the company bankrupt, I had no money left, so I had to sell everything I could.”
Freya didn’t scold him; at least, he wasn’t completely useless. Zane had handled the Evan Drake situation well. Without him, no one would have known about Dina’s actions towards Evan Drake.
“Could it be that you sent someone to tail me?” Freya asked.
Zane scratched his head. “Yes, I did. I was afraid you would blame me for the house situation, so I didn’t dare to come out and see you. Instead, I had someone follow you to keep tabs on your every move.”
“You’ve grown smarter,” Freya remarked, looking at him. “So why are you now daring to appear before me? Aren’t you afraid of my reproach or a good beating?”
“I heard that you reported me missing. The police were after me, so I had no choice but to come out,” Zane confessed. It wasn’t because he was afraid of being found by the police and exposing his involvement in the tracking incidents. He might not have come to Freya willingly even then.
“Freya, please cancel the missing person report and say that I’ve returned safely,” he pleaded.
Freya nodded. “I will take care of it.”
Now she was worried about Luna, but at the same time, she needed to deal with Dina’s situation as soon as possible. Having this ticking time bomb around her, she didn’t know when it would explode.
“Luna doesn’t have any clues?” Freya asked.
Zane lowered his gaze and said, “None.”
Freya needed to think calmly now. “You stay at home, I’ll go out.”
“Where are you going?”
Freya glared at him. “To cancel the alarm. Luckily I called the police, otherwise, who knows how long you’d have to hide.”
Zane shrunk back, like a quail.
Freya went to the police station and when she came back, she remembered what Zane had said and decided to check on Evan Drake’s situation. She dialed Orion’s number, thinking that Elijah would surely have entrusted Evan Drake to Orion’s care since Xander wasn’t there. Considering Orion used to be a doctor, he was the best person to take care of Evan Drake.
“Hello.”
“It’s me,” Freya asked, “Which hospital is Evan in? I want to go see him.”
Upon hearing Freya’s voice, Orion replied, “He’s in the main hospital ward.”
“If you’re free, let’s meet up!” Orion suggested.
Freya said, “Come to my house tonight, the rose garden. You know the place better than I do.”
“Alright, see you tonight.”
Freya made a soft sound of agreement and hung up the phone. She instructed the driver to go to the hospital. Arriving at the hospital, she found the ward.
Freya pushed open the door and saw the secretary, as well as Sacha Lowe. Dina’s eyes flickered noticeably when she saw Freya. Freya accurately caught onto it. She knew deep down that Dina’s presence definitely wasn’t a good sign.
“Why are you here?” Dina’s tone lacked any respect now. She didn’t see Freya as her superior at all.
A faint expression of disdain and contempt appeared on Freya’s face. She glanced at Dina, then stepped inside. “I’m here on behalf of Elijah, to check on Evan’s condition.”
Sacha looked at Freya. “You know Evan too? Who are you to him?”
Freya replied, “A friend.”
“Oh,” Sacha said, “All his friends seem to be women.”
The secretary was a woman, and now another woman had arrived. Although Freya was dressed modestly, just by looking into her eyes, one could tell she was a beautiful woman.
Freya examined Evan’s condition and saw Sacha giving him a massage. Evan was in a coma, but his complexion looked alright, indicating that he was being taken care of well. Her gaze fell upon Sacha. She said, “I know you, and I know your father. You grew up in Country M and just came to the country. If you need any help, you can come find me.”
“You know my dad too?” Sacha was surprised.
Freya answered, “Yes.”
“Then how should I address you?” Sacha asked.
“My first name is Freya. You can call me whatever you like.” Freya said.
Dina had snuck over today, intending to remove Evan’s oxygen tube, but Sacha was there the whole time, so she didn’t have a chance. Now that Freya had come as well, her chances were even slimmer.
Later, Dina left the ward, wanting to leave.
“Wait.” Freya stopped her. She looked at Dina and said, “Elijah said that Evan’s affairs are completely entrusted to Orion. You don’t need to meddle anymore, and you don’t need to come to the hospital either.”
Freya was worried that the secretary would continue to harm Evan, so she had to be on guard. Dina stared at her, with a suppressed jealousy in her eyes because Freya openly called Elijah’s first name.
What qualifications did she, a disfigured monster, have?
Dina was dissatisfied in her heart.
“If there were such instructions, Mr Silverton would personally call me.” She emphasized the word “personally” heavily as if showing off in front of Freya.
Freya’s tone was indifferent. “If you don’t believe it, you can call him right now.”
As she spoke, she took out her phone and, while searching for Elijah’s number, made sure to add the two words “husband” in the notes. Then she handed the phone to Dina. “Call Elijah and ask.”
She deliberately mentioned Elijah’s name and deliberately placed the note in front of the secretary. She wanted Dina to know that she was Elijah’s wife and could address him however she pleased. Dina glanced at the note on the phone screen, her face gradually contorting with anger, turning an abnormal shade of red. She was furious, irritated but she couldn’t say anything. Freya dared to be so arrogant just because she had a position and had given birth to a child. Without the child, Freya was nothing.
“What? No? ” asked Freya. She could tell that Dina didn’t dare to make this call because she had no right; if Dina really made a call, Elijah might get a problem with this secretary. While Dina couldn’t possibly allow herself to look bad in Elijah’s eyes.
Dina clenched her fists and turned around to leave. At this moment, Freya’s face clouded over with anger.
