He leaned down, holding her tightly. “Freya, just hold on. I’ll take you back, Kai is waiting for us at home.”
Freya paused, a sense of unease already creeping into her heart. Her voice hoarse, she asked, “Why are you avoiding the topic, Elijah?”
“I…” Elijah couldn’t bring himself to say it, the fact that they had lost the baby. He knew deep down that Freya would find it even harder to accept than he did. After all, that child had been growing inside her body.
“I… I know, I wasn’t in a good condition at that time, but I was already eight months pregnant. Even if it was premature, the baby could have survived…” Her voice trembled, filled with intermittent sobs, the kind that came from trying to hold back emotions. “Don’t tell me something happened to our child, I won’t believe it!”
“I don’t want to believe it either…” Elijah’s face pressed against hers.
Their cheeks wet with tears, but they couldn’t tell whose they were. With those words, Elijah had already confirmed that something had happened to the child. Freya’s body trembled uncontrollably, overwhelmed by her emotions. Her face turned pale.
“The baby came at the wrong time, I wasn’t happy about it. I wanted to focus on my work, I thought… we already had Kai, and I… still accepted him, love him. You said you wanted a daughter, I hoped it would be a daughter…” With trembling lips, Freya was getting her words muddled up. Her voice fragmented.
“Mm…” Suddenly, she felt warmth between her legs.
“What’s wrong?” asked Elijah, anxious. Freya’s body was covered by the blanket, and he couldn’t see that she was bleeding.
“Elijah, do you remember when you imprisoned me? It seemed like you were angry and locked me up…”
Elijah’s eyes turned red as he tightly held her hand. “I remember, you wanted to escape from me, I was angry.”
Freya pursed her lips. “It’s because of that time… that I could get through this time… My child is just as strong as me. Nothing will happen to him, and I won’t believe otherwise. You know that, right?”
Elijah took her hand and pressed it against his lips, kissing it fervently. “I know.”
At that moment, the doctor walked in and asked, “What’s going on?”
Elijah stood up, placing Freya’s hand under the blanket. As he lifted the blanket, he seemed to see… blood! Slowly, he lifted the blanket and saw a pool of bright red underneath her. The bedding beneath her had already been stained red.
“The patient is experiencing postpartum hemorrhage. Rush her to the operating room.”
The medical staff immediately pushed Freya into the operating room, while Elijah was pushed aside. In front of him, it seemed like everything was still covered in blood. Freya lay weakly in the pool of blood, barely hanging on, as if she was about to leave him.
No, it couldn’t happen. She couldn’t be in danger. He couldn’t bear it!
“Freya!”
Elijah lost control and ran after her, reaching the side of the bed and holding her tightly. “You can’t leave me, you know that?”
Freya managed to force a smile through her struggle. “I won’t, I will… be fine…”
“Please don’t hinder us from saving her. Every minute you delay, her danger increases. Please stay calm.”
The medical staff pulled Elijah away. Elijah watched helplessly as Freya was pushed into the operating room once again. The outcome was uncertain. He felt suffocated, she was going through life and death but he couldn’t do anything.
Elijah punched the wall, angry at his own helplessness. He hung his head. He, who was always arrogant, despised nothing more than bowing his head. He believed that was the behavior of a loser. But now, he bowed his head. His hand hung at his side, blood dripping from the broken skin at his knuckles.
Suddenly, he looked up. The child, the child was the key to Freya’s excessive bleeding. Freya was a doctor herself, she said her child was fine-could there have been a mistake somewhere? It was eight months old. The baby was already in a form that could survive. Elijah realized he had to see it with his own eyes.
Throughout the process, the doctor had never shown him the delivered baby. Combined with him being entirely focused on Freya, he overlooked it.
Elijah took out his phone and called Rod Lofic, “Do me a favor…”
…
Country Z.
Haley woke up, finding herself on a hotel bed, completely naked, and covered in love bites. She rubbed her temples hard, trying to recall what had happened. She remembered receiving a message, a message from Orion, asking her to meet him at a bar. Orion rarely took the initiative to ask her out. She even took extra care to dress up before going to meet him. But when she arrived, Orion wasn’t there. Instead, a man approached her and started chatting, asking, “Are you waiting for Orion?”
“Yeah, who are you?” she replied. She had never seen this man before.
The man smiled and said, “I’m Orion’s friend.”
Haley understood, “Oh, I see.”
“Shall we wait for Orion together?” the man suggested.
Haley agreed.
Later, the man poured her a drink, and at that moment, she didn’t think too much and just drank it. After that, she couldn’t remember anything.
Was it Orion who did this to her?
The thought of Orion willingly getting intimate with her made her cheeks turn pink. When she noticed the sound of running water coming from the bathroom, she looked up. Through the frosted glass door, she could only see a silhouette. Haley shyly lowered her gaze.
Suddenly, the room door suddenly swung open forcefully. Haley was startled and looked up, only to see Orion walking in.
She widened her eyes, “Orion…”
Orion was here, so who was in the bathroom?
That was when she realized something was wrong.
“Listen to me, please.” She quickly got out of bed, but she had no clothes on, so she wrapped herself in the bed-sheets.
“I haven’t done anything to betray you…”
Though Orion didn’t love her, he still felt disgusted at the scene before him.
“Haley, I never expected you to be this kind of person.”
“I’m not, I didn’t…”
“Haley.” The man from the bathroom walked out and looked at Haley. “Were you satisfied last night? You were quite wild, couldn’t stop moaning…”
“Shut up and get out!” Haley screamed hysterically.
The man picked up his clothes, muttering to himself, “You don’t recognize me now, huh? Last night, you were tightly holding onto me.”
“Orion, listen to my, I didn’t do anything.” Haley desperately cried, tears streaming down her face.
“I saw it with my own eyes, do you still want to argue?” Orion’s gaze turned cold.
Haley, in order to prove her innocence, immediately went to find her phone. “It was you who sent me the message, asking me to meet you.”
She searched for it–the message was gone. She quickly realized that it had been deleted.
“Do you have anything else to explain?” Orion asked.
Haley knew she had fallen into someone’s trap. But who wanted to harm her?
