Chapter 392 Sorry, I’m Late

Book:You Are My Mr Right Published:2024-6-4

The group that barged in was led by Rod Lofic’s grandfather.
There were already many conflicts between the two factions. And this time was no exception. Each side was acting in their own interests. Rod Lofic’s grandfather had quite a bit of authority. As the two groups faced off, silent flashed of knives and swords.
“We can completely use this incident to challenge Country Z. What do you mean by releasing her?”
“Is your only ability to create imaginary stories using a pregnant woman? Haven’t you seen that Country Z has condemned us diplomatically, accusing us of arbitrarily detaining citizens of another country? This has attracted quite a bit of attention. Do you really want to escalate the situation to an irreparable point?”
“They are just good at using rhetoric. As long as we can extract evidence from this woman’s mouth, no one will believe their words…”
“I’m afraid that before you can extract any information, her life will be gone, right?”
Freya had bled a lot underneath her, and her dress was stained red. Her consciousness became weak. Rod Lofic’s grandfather was afraid that Freya would die, which would make it difficult to explain to Elijah. After all, Elijah was supposed to help his grandson take control of the Lofic family. He had to keep Freya alive and hand her over to Elijah. Thus, he no longer wasted time with the other party and directly instructed his men to take Freya away.
Conflicts and clashes between the two factions were common when their political views clashed. But it would rarely escalate into actual fighting. At most, it would lead to more intense verbal attacks later on.
Outside, Rod Lofic stood by the car, checking the time from time to time. When he saw the people coming out, he quickly stepped forward.
“Grandpa…” As he spoke, he noticed the man behind his grandfather, holding Freya. Blood was flowing onto the ground. His expression changed instantly. “Quick, put her in the car. I’ll take her to the hospital.”
With his grandfather’s approval, the man immediately walked over and placed Freya in the car.
“Rod, I’m entrusting the next steps to you.”
“Please rest assured, Grandpa.”
Rod Lofic sat in the driver’s seat and drove away. On the way to the hospital, he dialed Elijah’s number.
“We’ve rescued her, and I’m on my way to the hospital…”
Elijah, who had received the call, was already heading out and asked, “Which hospital?”
“I checked the navigation system, and the closest hospital to my current location is Flannery Hospital. I’ll take her there.”
“How is she doing? Let me talk to her.” Elijah tried his best to remain calm. But he sensed that something was wrong. Freya must have been in trouble. Otherwise, Rod Lofic wouldn’t have rescued her and taken her to the hospital.
Rod Lofic glanced at Freya through the rearview mirror. She seemed to have lost consciousness.
“Um… She should be about to give birth.”
He didn’t mention that Freya was already unconscious.
Elijah’s heart seemed to be gripped by something, a dull ache. When Freya was about to give birth, he wasn’t there by her sidet. When Kai was born, she was alone. And this time, she was alone again. But in front of others, he couldn’t show too much emotion. He suppressed his voice and said, “I see.”
After hanging up the phone, Elijah drove over. By the time he arrived, Freya had already been taken into the operating room. Her condition was critical, and she might need to have a caesarean section. Even so, there was no guarantee that the baby could be saved. Because the baby was not full-term. And the mother’s condition was also compromised. When Freya was brought in, she had already lost a lot of blood, not just the breaking of the amniotic sac.
Elijah stared at the bloodstains on Rod Lofic’s body, clenched his hand by his side into a fist, and asked, “Tell me, her real condition.”
“Well…” Rod Lofic spoke softly, “Her condition might not be too good.”
Elijah’s breathing became rapid, and his emotions were restless. He was extremely uneasy. At this moment, it felt as if he needed to do something to alleviate this suffocating feeling.
“She should be fine.” Rod Lofic tried to comfort him.
Elijah raised his hand, signaling him not to speak. Right now, he needed silence. No matter who experienced it, they could feel the pain.
He looked at Rod Lofic and said, “She’s my wife.”
Rod Lofic pursed his lips and replied, “I’m sorry. If only I had rescued her earlier…”
“Excuse me, are you the patient’s family?” a nurse approached.
“I am.” Elijah immediately took two steps forward, hesitated for a moment, fearing to hear bad news.
“She…”
“The patient had severe bleeding and was brought in too late. We can only save either the mother or the child…”
“Save the mother.” Before the nurse could finish her sentence, Elijah had already made up his mind. If he had to choose between the child and her, he would choose Freya.
“Then please sign here.”
The nurse handed him the consent form for the surgery. Elijah picked up the pen. With his signature, he was erasing the life of that child. He wasn’t signing with ink, but with a knife that ended his own child’s life. But at this moment, there was no other choice. His hand trembled as he signed, but he forced himself to finish. He had never made such a difficult decision before.
Elijah’s feet faltered for a moment, almost losing his balance. He leaned against the wall with one hand, the weight on his chest bending his straight spine. Quickly regaining his composure, he realized that Freya was suffering more than him right now.

At the back door of the hospital, a nurse handed a newborn baby to a man. After looking around to make sure no one was watching, she said, “Take good care of the baby. Otherwise, you won’t be able to raise it. It’s only eight months old.”
The man, wearing a mask and a black cap pulled down to his eyebrows, revealing only his eyes, took the baby in his arms and said to the nurse, “Tell your master that I have sent the money.”
The nurse nodded and turned away, and the man tucked the baby into his embrace and left. All of this happened without anyone’s knowledge.

Freya was taken to the hospital room. Rod Lofic hadn’t left yet. He stood in the room and said, “If you need anything, feel free to contact me.”
“Thank you, but I don’t feel like talking right now.” Elijah’s words already indicated that he wanted to be alone.
After Rod politely left the room, Elijah sat by the bedside. He was looking at the person lying on the bed. Freya’s eyes were sunken, her eye sockets dark, her lips devoid of color, even cracking. Elijah dampened a cotton swab with water and gently moistened her lips. He brought warm water to gently wipe her face, her hands, her neck…
Freya slowly woke up the next day at noon. She weakly opened her eyelids. Her vision swayed for a moment, and then she saw the person in front of her clearly. Elijah tried to remain calm and smiled at her. “I’m sorry I came late.”
Freya touched her stomach, which had deflated. Did her baby already come into the world?
She looked at Elijah, her lips trembling, her voice dry. “Where’s our child? Is it a boy or a girl?”
Elijah almost couldn’t control his expression. His hand, resting on his lap, suddenly clenched. His heart trembled, as if a huge stone was weighing it down, making it hard to breathe. He didn’t know how to speak.
“… Freya.” His voice was low and gentle. “Our child…”
Freya said, “You didn’t see how Kai was born. You can’t miss it this time.”
At this moment, Elijah completely lost control.
