Chapter 356 You’re a Lackey

Calista knew that it might not be easy for her to rescue Thorne. So before coming here, she went to find Jack. She believed that Jack was Elijah’s grandfather. Even if Elijah was cold-hearted and currently at odds with the Silverton family, Jack was still his grandfather. She didn’t believe that Elijah had completely forgotten about Jack. She thought that if Jack intervened, he would be able to save Thorne.
However, Elijah glanced at Jack, his face as calm as a still lake. There was no trace of emotion. Jack leaned on his cane, not in the best condition, looking like a candle in the wind, despite the careful care of his doctors.
“Elijah,” Jack lowered his posture in front of Elijah. There was no tone of an elder. Instead, it was a family member who had done something wrong, begging for forgiveness. He truly regretted his wrong choices in the past. He shouldn’t have betrayed them, but instead let family ties restrain Elijah, so things wouldn’t have ended up like this. But there was no cure for regrets.
“I’m sick, seriously sick. I don’t have many days left. Considering that Thorne is your cousin…”
As Jack was speaking, Elijah’s driver opened the car door and leaned in. He completely ignored Jack.
“Elijah…”
“Master Elijah, please listen to the old master for a moment.” Deck hurriedly stepped forward to stop Elijah from leaving. Hoping that he would forgive Thorne, considering Jack’s poor health.
For Jack, family was everything. Elijah was the dominant party, and he had to side with the fallen side. They were all descendants of the Silverton family. He didn’t want to see the Silverton family tearing each other apart, with their future generations suffering as a result.
“Master Elijah,” Deck pleaded.
Elijah remained unmoved, coldly instructing the driver, “Drive.”
“Master Elijah…” Deck wanted to continue pleading, but the car quickly sped past him, leaving behind a foul smell of exhaust.
Seeing no hope, Deck returned to Jack’s side, supporting him. “You knew the outcome when you came here, why bother…”
Jack looked at Evan and commanded, “Evan, release Thorne.”
Evan’s expression turned serious, respectfully speaking to Jack, “You know that if I do that, Mr Silverton will fire me. Please don’t put me in a difficult position; I don’t want to lose my job.” After speaking, he instructed his subordinates, “Get Thorne into the car, let’s go.”
“Evan, you’re just a lackey by Elijah’s side. What qualifications do you have, what rights do you have to disobey your grandfather and not release him?” Calista tightly held onto Thorne, afraid that he would be taken away again.
Thorne leaned against Calista’s embrace, his lips curling up. This woman truly cared about him. He wasn’t defeated. At least, he had a woman who loved him deeply. On the other hand, Elijah had immense wealth, a true successful man. But did he have a woman who loved him unconditionally?
“Calista,” Thorne looked at her, “don’t waste your breath. It’s useless.”
“Your grandfather is here, I don’t believe that Evan can act recklessly.” Calista still clung to hope.
Evan approached with his men, forcefully grabbing Thorne. His gaze turned icy. “Indeed, I am a lackey. But I am only Elijah’s lackey, so I won’t listen to anyone else.”
Calista looked up, glaring at him with hatred. “You’re even worse than a lackey! You’re an animal!”
“Today, we’ll take Thorne back and take good care of him. After all, he has a girlfriend with a filthy mouth.” One of Evan’s subordinates spoke up, defending Evan.
Calista’s anger flared. “How dare you!”
“When we have him in our hands, we can dare anything. Your words mean nothing,” the subordinate said, forcefully shoving Thorne into the car and slamming the door shut! Calista chased after them. The driver ignored her attempts to pry the door open and drove away without hesitation. Calista was knocked to the ground, her knees bleeding. Several cars sped away.
Jack sighed. Deck knew what Jack was thinking and said, “We can’t rescue him now, but…”
“You have an idea.” Jack looked at Deck.
Deck leaned in close to Jack’s ear and whispered.
