The phone was quickly answered.
He said, “I need you to do something for me. Find a reliable person and test the DNA of the body.”
Elowen was readily available as a comparison sample.
The other side responded and he hung up the phone. Under the pretense of conducting a check on Elowen, he drew some blood from her. The verification process would take some time.
…
Country M.
Freya had become the youngest attending physician at Mede. Her colleagues congratulated her one by one.
Jeff said, “You should treat us to a meal.”
Freya smiled and didn’t hesitate, “I’ll treat you all to a feast.”
Laughter filled the air until a nurse interrupted, walking over, “Dr Jane, the director wants to see you in her office.”
Freya replied, “Okay, I’ll go right away.”
Someone jokingly remarked, “Is she going to ask you out for a meal too?”
“Just you and your big mouth.” Jeff chuckled. He was probably one of the few genuinely happy for Freya. After all, Freya had climbed the ranks too quickly. It usually took several years to become an attending physician here. How long had Freya been here? Even though her character and skills were impeccable, jealousy was ingrained in human nature.
Freya followed the nurse to the director’s office.
“Ms Martin.”
Freya’s supervisor was also a woman, in her sixties, and Westerners tend to show their age more in their sixties. Wrinkles covered her face, and her hair had turned white. Her yellow eyes, however, looked sharp.
“I’m going to attend a seminar in Country Z, and I’m planning to take you with me.”
Freya was troubled by Luna’s situation, so going back to her home country would be a good thing. “Really?”
“You’re willing?” The director was surprised since she thought Jane might refuse.
“I’m from Country Z, so of course I’m willing to go back and visit. But in the past, we usually traveled to a few Western countries. Why Country Z this time?” asked Freya.
“This was proposed by our new shareholder at Mede. They’re a patriot, aiming to promote the advancement of medical standards in Country Z.”
Freya blinked, a smile unconsciously appearing on her lips. The man she had her eye on had an extraordinary vision and wisdom.
“Get yourself ready, probably the day after tomorrow,” the director instructed.
Freya nodded, “Okay.”
“Today, go about your business.”
Freya acknowledged and left the office. She had surgery today. As soon as she stepped out of the operating room, Ronan grabbed her arm and pulled her away. Unable to keep up with his pace, Freya held her belly with one hand and said, “If you have something to say, just say it. Don’t drag me along.” At her current stage of pregnancy, running was out of the question, and her feet were swollen.
Ronan released her and explained, “I was too anxious and forgot that you’re still pregnant.”
“What do you want to talk about?”
“Let’s find a place where no one else is around.” He seemed afraid of being overheard.
Freya could only find a secluded spot with him.
“I mean, Elijah is not human. He drugged me and tied me up…”
Ronan started to say, but Freya already knew what he was going to say. What intrigued her more was, “Did he really force someone on you?”
“How did you know?” Now Ronan was panicking.
“I saw it,” Freya bluntly replied.
Ronan was utterly shocked. Would he dare to show his face in front of Freya in the future? How could Freya possibly like someone who was taken advantage of like that?
Looking at Ronan’s pale face, Freya cautiously asked, “Did it really happen to you?”
“No, it didn’t. I didn’t… Elijah is despicable and vile. He drugged me.” Ronan explained.
“Alright, I’m not interested in your affairs. I just didn’t understand why you would say that I was bought by you.” Freya said.
“Evan probably told Elijah that we knew each other, and Elijah’s smart enough to find it suspicious. He wanted to investigate you, and when I overheard, I told him that I paid you to disgust him. Then he retaliated by finding the ugliest woman in the world…” Ronan complained in a huff.
Freya burst into laughter.
“You’re still laughing? I did all this for you, and my body was taken advantage of by someone else.” Ronan looked at her very seriously. “Are you starting to despise me from the bottom of your heart?”
Freya shook her head, “No.” She truly didn’t care because Ronan wasn’t someone she had any relationship with. There was no need to be concerned.
“Oh, right, there’s something I need to tell you.”
