“You don’t need to.” Ronan interrupted.
Ronan had been standing outside the door all night without sleep. There was a hint of blue in his eyes. He didn’t seem to rest well. Probably because Freya hadn’t come out of Elijah’s room all night, and he was worried.
Evan frowned, “When did you learn to listen at the walls? It seems like you’re really committed to being a hypocrite?”
“You didn’t close the door properly, so I just walked in and listened.” He faced Elijah and continued, “You don’t need to investigate. Let me tell you why I know Dr Jane. It’s because I have a business relationship with her. I paid her to seduce you. Isn’t she ugly? But you don’t find her repulsive. Because she wears a perfume, it can confuse one’s mind. That’s why you don’t dislike her. I found such an incredibly ugly woman to appear in front of you just to disgust you.”
“Ronan, you’re despicable and shameless, aren’t you?” Evan also found it strange.
What he said was true; Elijah seemed not to hate Jane much in Evan’s eyes. It turned out it was Ronan’s scheme.
“I can’t compete with him in my career, so he won’t allow me to make him disgusted in other ways?” Ronan pretended to be genuine.
He had no choice; he was afraid of Freya getting too close to Elijah. So he could only intentionally defame Freya like this, making Elijah think that Jane was his trap. This way, Elijah would stay away from Freya.
“Ronan, you’re stooping so low.” Evan looked down on this kind of Ronan. Using such methods, he truly couldn’t show his face.
Ronan didn’t care about what Evan said. As long as he achieved his goal.
Elijah was furious. That woman was actually bought by Ronan?
“Ronan, I accept the gift you gave me.”
Ronan had a bad feeling. “What do you plan to do?”
“I accept your gift, so naturally, I’ll give you a return gift.”
An eye for an eye.
Elijah was never someone who would be taken advantage of.
Ronan felt a sense of unease, but he didn’t regret what he had done. Being retaliated against by Elijah was better than letting him know about the connection between Jane and Freya.
However, Ronan had never expected that Elijah’s revenge would be…
The Hospital.
An anonymous email and a video surfaced. The contents revealed the secret relationship between two local doctors competing for the position of head physician. No one in the hospital knew about their romantic involvement because hospital regulations strictly prohibited couples from working in the same department. These rules were put in place to prevent collusion and maintain a professional work environment.
From the conversation in the video, it became apparent that they had resorted to unethical means to defeat each other in the competition. This revelation instantly thrust them into the spotlight and caused quite a stir within the hospital. Both of them were summoned by the dean for a discussion. The dean, intolerant of any misconduct, decided to fire them on the spot.
When Freya received the news, her expression remained calm, devoid of joy or sadness. As a doctor, she believed in fulfilling her professional duties without resorting to underhanded tactics. Someone with such questionable character didn’t deserve sympathy.
In the midst of this turmoil, a construction worker who had fallen from a building arrived at the hospital. A steel rod had pierced his heart, and his life hung by a thread. It was Freya’s shift today.
“Dr Jane, you’re pregnant. This surgery carries a high risk. Let another doctor handle it.” Someone cautioned.
“I can do it.” Freya insisted firmly, determined to take charge of the operation herself.
After nearly six hours of intense surgery, fraught with several close calls, she managed to successfully save the patient’s life. The operation was a resounding success.
Currently, the patient was in the intensive care unit. Although the surgery was successful, the road to recovery was still long and arduous. All that mattered was getting through it.
“Dr Jane, did you snatch this patient from the clutches of the Lord of the Underworld?” someone remarked, acknowledging the patient’s critical condition.
This surgery once again showcased Freya’s skills, earning her recognition from her colleagues. However, the procedure had drained her energy completely. After stepping off the operating table, she had to sit in a chair for a long time, unable to move.
Her belly felt uncomfortable, but she couldn’t help it. She was heavily pregnant after all. Standing for too long would undoubtedly exhaust her. As it was time to finish work, she called Ronan, hoping to make plans to meet up. However, despite dialing his number, no one answered on the other end. She remembered the method that had helped Luna and Zane, but she needed Ronan’s assistance. With no other choice, she decided to go to the hotel to find him.
However, when she arrived at the hotel, she saw a crowd gathered outside Ronan’s room. Curiosity piqued, she walked over and looked past the people, trying to catch a glimpse of what was happening inside.
