It was simply unbearable to look at.
A woman, resembling a hippopotamus with her dark carbon-like skin and tightly coiled hair, was straddling Ronan. She wore a pink, feathered and seductive camisole that left little to the imagination. Ronan seemed either tied up or immobilized, lying there with a face full of despair. The scene was too much for Freya’s eyes, so she quickly turned away.
“Dr Jane, are you here to see him?” Evan appeared behind her, seemingly out of nowhere.
She calmly replied, “Yes, Mr Vega is my patient. I came to check on him…”
“You’re so dedicated to your work.” Evan said with a hint of sarcasm.
Freya couldn’t understand where his mockery was coming from and responded, “I have been equally dedicated to Mr Silverton during his treatment. It seems you are unsatisfied.”
“Who do you think you are? You know it well yourself. Why bother pretending here? We only punished Ronan this time, but we didn’t touch you because you’re simply too ugly. If we kick you out of the hospital, you won’t even have a place to stay. Consider yourself lucky.”
Freya remained silent.
Why was she having more and more trouble understanding?
“Ronan’s ‘bedroom drama’ will soon spread back to Country Z. I hope he’ll still have the face to show up in public then,” Evan gloated.
Freya seemed to grasp the situation, yet also felt somewhat confused. It appeared that she wouldn’t be able to talk to Ronan about their matter today. She would have to leave for now.
She stepped into the elevator and pressed the floor button. Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a hand reached out and stopped them. The doors reopened, and Evan walked in. Freya moved to the side. Evan kept his gaze forward and asked, “How much did Ronan pay you?”
Freya was completely bewildered.
“No need to act clueless. Ronan confessed himself. He said you were bribed by him to disgust Mr Silverton. So, in retaliation, we found a woman even uglier than you and had her press Ronan down on the bed in front of everyone…”
Freya’s eye twitched.
So, it was Elijah’s revenge. There was no reason for Ronan to lie to Elijah like that. It would only invite trouble upon himself, wouldn’t it?
Though Freya felt regretful for Ronan, it was all pointless now, no matter what was said.
The elevator stopped. Freya was the first to step out of the elevator, with Evan closely following. He went to the front desk to check out. Upon hearing that he was checking out, Freya stopped in her tracks and asked, “Is Mr Silverton leaving?”
Evan ignored her. It seemed that he had developed a deep aversion towards her after finding out she was bribed by Ronan. Freya didn’t bother explaining either. She turned and walked away. As she stumbled towards the entrance, a girl walked in. Freya recognized her as Sacha Lowe when she looked closely. As Freya passed by Sacha, there was a strong smell of alcohol emanating from her.
Sacha had quite a few drinks. She swayed over to the front desk and slapped her wallet on the counter. “Give me a room.”
Evan saw her and furrowed his brows. “Why are you here again?”
Didn’t Elijah already meet Eric Lowe? Logically, she shouldn’t be showing up again.
“Evan,” Sacha squinted her eyes and hiccuped, “are you happy now?”
“I’m happy as long as you’re not clinging to me.” Evan replied bluntly.
Sacha leaned on the front desk, blinked her eyes on the shiny crystal counter, and then burst into uncontrollable tears the next moment.
Evan frowned, “Why are you crying?”
“It’s all because of you, you took advantage of me…” Sacha wailed. Her crying was loud and drew attention.
Evan panicked, “Stop making up false accusations that could lead to misunderstandings. How did I take advantage of you?”
“If it wasn’t for you telling Elijah to meet my dad, I wouldn’t have known the truth…”
Evan pressed further, “What truth?”
Was there something he didn’t know?
