The fake mole on her nose was clinging on, swaying with her every breath, as if it could fall off at any moment, yet miraculously staying in place.
Elijah stared at her. He could smell the strong scent of powder on her. His brows furrowed, twisted in knots.
“Your mole is about to fall off,” he reminded her.
Freya quickly covered her nose. She blinked, her eyes adorned with colored contact lenses and false eyelashes.
Elijah looked at her. “You’re not going to tell me that you stuck on a fake mole just to look pretty, are you?”
Freya’s brain worked quickly. “Of course not! I… I applied some medicine to remove this mole.” She intentionally took it off and handed it to Elijah. “Look, it’s dried up, that’s why it looks like this…”
Elijah scoffed. “Stay away.”
Freya smiled, took a piece of tissue, rolled it up, and threw it in the trash can. She continued to wipe Elijah’s face. After finishing, she said, “You have to let it dry before you can sleep.”
“You’re not allowed to leave this place tonight.” After saying that, Elijah walked into the bedroom and closed the door.
Freya still wanted to investigate the medicine she had prepared, why there was an ingredient that could cause skin allergies. Something was off about this.
“Why?” she went to knock on the door and ask.
“In case you plan to harm me, I can catch you right away.”
Why didn’t he believe her?
“I really didn’t plan to harm you,” she explained.
But Elijah ignored her.
Freya felt helpless. Making do on the couch seemed to be the only option for now. Freya was tired, but couldn’t sleep. It was torture for her.
Today, without a massage, Elijah had actually fallen asleep. However, Freya was left to suffer. Finally, morning arrived after enduring a long night. The rashes on Elijah’s body had subsided considerably and were no longer itchy, so he allowed Freya to leave. Freya left some medication for Evan, asking him to remind Elijah to apply it. After a night of turmoil, she felt exhausted. Her complexion was pale. The medication she had was prepared by the hospital. The only ones who could move were the people in the hospital.
…
Soon, news spread within the hospital that Jane might be dismissed from her position. Upon hearing the news, everyone expressed sympathy. They speculated why she would be fired.
“Her abilities are obvious to everyone, how could this happen…”
“Exactly, maybe she offended someone?”
“Seems like it, otherwise, why would news of her dismissal be circulating?”
Freya herself acted lost and devastated. Actually, it was a play she deliberately staged. By doing so, she wanted to send a message to those who framed her. That she was about to be fired. Once the culprits let their guard down, they were prone to expose their weaknesses.
Freya had identified two people as her targets. Because the hospital was promoting attending physicians, she and two others were competitors. Now, at this critical moment, she encountered trouble, which would undoubtedly benefit the other two. Therefore, she focused her attention on her competitors.
By the end of the workday, she saw one of her competitors in the underground parking lot, not leaving immediately, but standing by the car, as if waiting for someone. Freya watched from a distance. Soon, she saw someone arriving. Surprisingly, it was her other competitor.
Freya’s eyes widened. Were these two collaborating to frame her?
She saw them get into the car and drive off. Freya followed suit.
“Jeff, follow them.”
“I got it.” Jeff replied.
Freya had asked Jeff for help with this matter, and his car was also parked in the underground parking lot. They tracked the car until it reached a residential area.
The occupants got out of the car and entered a house. The two of them seemed very close.
“They can’t be in a romantic relationship, right?” asked Jeff.
Freya was also curious. But it wasn’t entirely impossible. They were a man and a woman, similar in age, and supposedly graduated from the same university. However, within the hospital, she had never seen them interact.
“Let’s go to the window and see if we can catch a glimpse of them.” Freya whispered.
Jeff nodded.
In Country M, many houses were independent, so they went around to the back window and looked into the living room. On the couch, the man held the woman in his arms. “This time, it seems Jane has no hope. Either you or I will take the position.”
“If you take the position, help me in the next election. If I take the position, I’ll help you in the next election. Once we both become attending physicians, let’s get married, okay?” The woman snuggled into the man’s embrace.
“Mm.”
The man ran his fingers through her hair. “Thanks to you, we found out about that man from Z country. He somehow managed to acquire shares from Lofic and is now a major shareholder of Mede. Jane offended him, so she probably won’t stand a chance in this election.”
