Evan quickly explained, “She is Jane, the doctor here.”
Elijah stared at her, his gaze sharp as if trying to peel off the mask on her face and see who she really was.
Just a doctor, why panic?
What was with the disguise?
The mask, the scarf…
Freya forced herself to remain calm, deliberately adding an accent to her English, making it sound different from before. “You can call me Jane, and what I want to say now is that your insomnia has started to affect your health. I need your cooperation for treatment…”
Elijah got out of bed, taking slow steps towards her. With each step he took, the oppressive aura intensified. Freya’s hand, hanging by her side, clenched in an attempt to appear strong. “Please go back to your bed…”
“Um…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Elijah ripped off the mask from her face, and she instinctively covered it. There was a hint of fear in her flickering pupils.
Elijah froze. There was only one impression in his mind–this woman was ugly. Freckles covered her face. Dull, lifeless blue eyes, red lipstick smudged beyond the lips, spider-leg thick fake eyelashes, and a mole with hair on her nose. There seemed to be a tattoo on her body as well.
Elijah took a step back. This was probably the most pitiful face of a woman he had ever seen in his entire life. He finally understood why she had covered herself so tightly.
Evan stood by, watching, nearly on the verge of vomiting; he probably had never thought there was a woman who could be so repulsive.
Freya saw the disgust in Elijah’s eyes. Determined to leave him with an unforgettable impression, she took off her hat, revealing her dry, lackluster golden curls, tangled and messy on top of her head, swaying loosely.
“I want to change a doctor.” Elijah turned to Evan and said.
Evan understood perfectly and replied, “I’ll arrange it right away…”
“Sir, please don’t judge me by my appearance. I am a skilled doctor,” Freya put her hat and mask back on. “I am currently pregnant, and hospitals take special care of pregnant women. So, even if you complain, it won’t make a difference.”
Evan’s gaze shifted to her belly, wondering what kind of man had slept with her and got her pregnant. It was truly a cruel fate. If the child she would give birth to looked like her, their life would be ruined, wouldn’t it?
Freya completely ignored their resistant gazes, and the effect was surprisingly good. She was very satisfied. “I have two treatment options for you to choose from. The first is hydrotherapy, which is basically bathing in medicinal water and receiving massages. The second is transcranial electrical stimulation, which involves applying low-intensity electrical currents to specific areas of the brain to regulate the activity of the cerebral cortex and improve symptoms such as insomnia, depression, and anxiety…”
“No need to say more. I feel like the first option is safer.” Evan really thought the second option was a bit scary. He was worried that Elijah’s head would be ruined if it went through all that. It was better to be cautious.
“Mr Silverton, it’s better to go for the conservative treatment.” Evan tried to persuade him. “The second option requires coming to the hospital every time, which is inconvenient.”
Freya looked at Elijah. “Which one do you choose?”
“The first one,” Evan eagerly answered first.
Elijah glanced at him but didn’t say anything.
Freya took note and said, “Alright, once a day in the initial stage, and we’ll determine the frequency of treatment based on the results. You can now be discharged. Go and complete the discharge procedures.”
After speaking, she walked out. Evan approached Elijah and whispered, “Do you think her skills match her appearance?”
“Don’t judge a book by its cover. Let’s go and complete the procedures.” Elijah replied.
Evan went to handle it. Once they were done, they left the hospital. They had important matters to attend to this time. However, just as they were about to leave the hospital gate and get into their car, they were suddenly stopped by someone.
