Elijah, seemingly oblivious to the old man’s anger, casually tossed the divorce certificate into the trash can. “I’ll handle our marriage certificate personally. You don’t need to worry about it, Grandfather.”
Taking a seat across from the old man, he nonchalantly crossed his legs. “Is this the reason you came today, Grandfather? If so, I’ve already seen it, and I’ve expressed my opinion on the matter.”
Jack’s face turned a livid shade of gray. “Do you even realize who you’re speaking to?”
Before Elijah could respond, Jack continued, “Have you seen the news? Turning this into such a situation, what benefit does it bring to you?”
“So, Grandfather’s suggestion is for me to let Thorne Silverton take my child and woman without any objection?” Elijah retorted sharply.
Jack was momentarily speechless. He had taken a wrong step, losing Elijah’s respect and patience. Elijah harbored some grievances towards Jack due to the death of his parents. They both knew the truth behind it, yet Jack protected his second son’s family.
Elijah didn’t express his discontent because, despite everything, he still held onto the tiny thread of family affection from his parents.
But how had Jack treated him?
Knowing that his child was in Thorne Silverton’s hands, he did nothing. Elijah couldn’t forgive this. Having lost important family members, he couldn’t let the tragedy repeat itself with his child and Freya now in his life.
“Mr Silverton, the company’s stocks…” Xander returned, hastily entering the CEO’s office, but he paused when he saw Jack present.
He stood beside Freya.
Jack, angry yet helpless against Elijah, still held some authority due to his reputation.
“Deck, investigate if the company’s stocks have fallen.” Jack ordered.
Deck replied, “I’ll do that right away.”
In less than five minutes, Deck returned with a grave expression. “Sir, the company’s stocks have plummeted due to today’s news.”
Jack, who had foreseen this outcome, now had a leverage point.
“Elijah, I’m entrusting the entire management of the company to you as a sign of my trust. However, if your personal grievances affect the company and the entire Silverton family, don’t blame me for revoking your management rights.” Jack stood up, leaning on his cane. “I’m giving you three days to resolve this matter.”
Having said that, he stood up with the assistance of Deck and left the office. In the elevator, Deck finally dared to ask, “Sir, what does this mean?”
“Didn’t you see his attitude towards me?” Jack was dissatisfied, oblivious to where he had gone wrong.
Jack was completely unaware of what he had done wrong. His desire to find someone capable to manage the company was understandable, as was his intention to give Thorne Silverton a chance, considering that Thorne Silverton was also his grandson. However, he should not have disregarded Elijah’s child.
Deck inquired, “Are you planning to stand on Master Thorne’s side?”
Jack remained silent, conveying a similar sentiment. His visit to the company today, presenting divorce papers and warning Elijah, indicated a change in his intentions. Jack had originally married Freya to Elijah to make him give up his hatred. However, now, due to Freya and the child, Elijah was at odds with him. He had brought this trouble upon himself.
“If I wanted Elijah to abandon his hatred because of Freya, now, because Thorne Silverton captured his child, Elijah will hate Thorne’s family even more and might take drastic measures.” Jack sighed. “All my previous attempts to appease him have been in vain.”
Deck tried to reason, “I believe there’s still a chance to salvage the situation.”
“How?” Jack retorted.
Deck suggested, “I think Master Elijah still has feelings for the past…”
“If I continue to appease him, what will happen after I die?” Jack countered.
Deck hesitated, reluctant to speak.
Jack sneered and said, “You know very well that if I die, he will definitely deal with Thorne’s family first.”
Deck lowered his gaze.
“So, while I’m still alive, I’ll cut his influence,” Jack stated.
As long as Elijah didn’t have such great influence, it wouldn’t be easy for him to deal with his uncle’s family.
“The company has been managed by the young master for many years. Although you still hold the position of chairman, you haven’t been to the company for a long time. I’m afraid you won’t be able to exert much influence,” Deck suggested.
“I only handed over the company to him, but I haven’t given him the company shares yet,” the old man had a trick up his sleeve. He was uncertain about Elijah, although Elijah had never been against his uncle’s family, he couldn’t read him.
Deck thought the old man was overthinking and didn’t understand Elijah. He believed that Elijah had a lack of security and a sense of family warmth due to the early death of his parents. If Jack Silverton was sincere with him, Elijah could be influenced.
But now the old master wanted to give Thorne a chance and disregard Elijah’s child, allowing Thorne to use the child to compete with Elijah. It was abnormal for Elijah not to be angry.
“What do you think I did wrong?” Jack Silverton asked.
Deck quickly shook his head and said, “Nothing.” How dare he?
In the office, Xander walked over to Elijah.
“Mr Silverton, is the old master angry?” Xander asked as they walked out.
Elijah’s expression was dark, more disappointed than angry. He was disappointed in his grandfather.
“Mr Silverton, the urgent matter now is to stabilize the stocks. We can’t afford to let the company’s stocks keep falling,” Xander urgently advised.
Elijah, seemingly indifferent, stood up and said, “Leave it to the PR department.”
“By the way, Mr Silverton,” Xander almost forgot the matter. “I checked and Ronan Vega didn’t leak the information. He’s been in Stratos City and hasn’t come over. He’s been busy with company affairs and hasn’t been paying attention to our side of things lately.”
Elijah stopped in his tracks. This matter seemed suspicious to him. “Find out more about this matter,” he said.
“Okay, and the person who was thrown into the sea died, but he deserved it. He committed many crimes before, including robbery, rape, and assault. He would work for Thorne Silverton because he just got out of jail and didn’t have a job before doing something illegal again.”
As for the matter of throwing the person into the sea, he had already handled it and there wouldn’t be any extra problems.
Elijah hummed a low sound.
“Mr Silverton, I’m worried that the old master might side with Thorne Silverton,” Xander expressed his concern. He was surprised by the old man’s attitude. He knew the old master would be angry, but he didn’t expect him to be so angry. Elijah seemed to have seen through the old man’s thoughts and was indifferent to his attitude.
“I heard the old master’s warning just now. If the stock falls and can’t be recovered, I’m afraid…”
“Xander,” Elijah interrupted him, “do you remember why I opened a company in F country three years ago?”
Xander shook his head, “You didn’t say, so I haven’t understood it until now.”
Suddenly, he understood it.
