Elara was taken aback. It was indeed her own decision to come over today, but she hadn’t expected to run into Freya. Moreover, she didn’t lay a hand on Freya.
“I…” She wanted to explain, but Elijah didn’t have time to listen. “Ask her to leave.”
“Yes.” The secretary immediately walked up to Elara and gestured for her to leave. “Please go.”
Elara was still trying to explain, “I didn’t hit her.”
Elijah completely ignored her, holding Freya and turning around. However, after turning around, he suddenly stopped. “If there’s a next time, I’ll kick you out of the company.”
A chill ran down Elara’s spine. She had worked so hard, but Elijah still didn’t favor her. Was it because of Freya’s instigation? She had been kicked out of the villa. Why did she come back to seduce Elijah?
What kind of tricks did Freya use to make Elijah favor her like this?
Meanwhile, in Elijah’s office, he walked in and took tissue from the desk to wipe the coffee stains off Freya.
“If you don’t like her, just tell me. I’ll kick her out. What if you really got scalded with the hot coffee?”
Freya looked up at him in disbelief. “What do you mean?”
Elijah said, “There are surveillance cameras all over the company. You two made a scene at the entrance just now, and I checked the footage.”
So he saw that Elara didn’t hit her. Everything Freya did and said was deliberately trying to provoke Elara. Elara was foolish to fall for her tricks.
“Husband?” He raised his eyebrows, a pleased smile playing on his lips. “I like that title.”
Freya felt embarrassed. She hurriedly explained, “Actually, I…”
“Hush.” Elijah pressed his finger against her parted lips. “I like you this way.”
She could deal with other women because she cared about him. Seeing Freya use these little tricks, he was happy.
Freya looked at him with wide eyes. “I want to give Kai a home.”
Elijah’s smiling face froze and then cracked. She did all this just to give Kai a home, not because she liked him?
“Freya.” Elijah spoke softly. Hadn’t he already made his feelings clear?
Or was her heart made of stone?
Sensing his unease, Freya asked cautiously, “What’s wrong? Unhappy?”
Elijah didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he gathered his arms, and her body collided with his, fitting together seamlessly with no gaps. Through the fabric, Freya could still feel his scorching body temperature, making her mouth dry. She swallowed hard. With her hands on Elijah’s chest, she whispered, “You’re holding me too tightly, I can’t breathe.”
Elijah heard her words but didn’t loosen his grip. Instead, he tightened it, and for her to breathe freely, she had to stand on tiptoe. Their breaths were dangerously close. The warm and humid breaths intertwined.
Elijah’s voice was low and deep. “Can’t like me, huh?”
“No.” Freya answered quickly, unintentionally revealing her true thoughts. She pursed her lips. “No, I want to keep you, not just because you’re Kai’s dad, but also because I… have feelings for you.”
“Really?” Her response pleasantly surprised Elijah.
Feeling embarrassed and shy, Freya couldn’t help but complain, “Yes, I like you.”
She tried to struggle out of his arms. “Can you let go of me now?”
Elijah smiled. “No.”
Freya complained, “You’ve been holding me like this, you’re going to strangle me.”
“I can’t bear to strangle you.” Elijah lowered his head and gently placed a kiss on her forehead.
The kiss was light and soft, like a gentle breeze in the spring, brushing against the tip of one’s heart. Freya’s heart trembled, and she leaned into his embrace. Elijah was the first man to capture her heart. Two individuals who were unlikely to cross paths had been forcibly bound together. Perhaps, this was their fate.
Elijah’s phone on the office desk suddenly rang.
Freya, leaving his embrace, said, “Your phone is ringing.”
Elijah heard it but didn’t pick up immediately. Freya reached out, took the phone, and handed it to him. Xander’s name was displayed on the screen.
“Xander’s call, probably something urgent,” Freya said.
Elijah took the call.
Soon, Xander’s voice came through. “Look at the news.”
Elijah opened the large screen for video conferencing on the wall. The incident on the ship had attracted media attention, and now everything was being widely reported. Because of Thorne Silverton’s connection, all fingers were pointing at the Silverton family.
Various unpleasant comments were made. In essence, they accused the Silverton family of being wealthy enough to earn money in unethical ways, harming other families. They predicted divine retribution.
Elijah raised an eyebrow. “What’s going on?”
He did call the police, but he didn’t inform the media.
“It seems someone leaked the information. The incident on the ship has been exposed,” Xander explained.
“Someone leaked it?” Elijah fell into deep thought.
Thorne Silverton wouldn’t dig his own grave and publicize this.
So, who else could it be?
Ronan Vega?
“Check if Ronan Vega has been active recently.” Elijah instructed.
“Okay, I’ll do it as soon as possible. But with such a big commotion, if the old master finds out, will he be unhappy?” Xander knew Jack cared about the family reputation.
This incident had tarnished the Silverton family’s image and made them a target of public criticism. However, Elijah no longer cared about Jack Silverton’s opinion.
Jack no longer deserved his respect. If a senior only cared about his pride and ignored his family, then he could only be considered a heartless person.
“Don’t worry about him,” Elijah had already turned cold towards his grandfather.
“Okay, I’ll finish things here and come back.” Xander said.
Just then, the door was knocked.
Elijah hung up the phone, intending to say, “Come in,” but the door was already pushed open.
Jack Silverton stood at the door, his expression fierce. The secretary lowered her head. “I couldn’t stop him.”
Elijah gestured for the secretary to leave. Jack glanced at Freya, who was sitting on the sofa. He sat down and said, “It’s good that she’s here.”
He motioned for Deck to place the divorce certificate on the table. “I handled your marriage certificate back then, and now I’ve taken care of your divorce certificate.”
He then looked at Freya. “Come over here.”
Freya took a step forward, but Elijah grabbed her hand. “Stay here, don’t move.”
He let go of Freya and walked over himself.
He bent down, picked up the divorce certificate from the table, carefully examined it, and then tore it apart with a loud rip.
“What are you doing?” Jack asked in displeasure.
