CATRIONA
It felt like I was in some kind of weird dream I’ve been having the past two weeks until Jerome patted on me jarring me up and that’s when I realised It wasn’t a dream due to my weakness and to the spinal headache. Peering around, I was in the hospital.
Forgive me for this but you need to come with me. Can you walk? Jerome asked, his tone dire. I think so. I replied and then dragged my feet on the floor. I can walk but I’m too weak for a long walk. Jerome carried me into his arms, bridal style and took me out of the hospital. A female doctor I recognised well nodded and I knew they mindlinked.
“Jerome what’s going on?”
Your mate is about to kill someone one. He used his wolfy speed to the pack house making me kind of embarrassed by the pack members that were staring back at us, more especially me. We neared the porch and told him to put me down which he did.
I leisurely trailed behind him inside the house. As we stepped inside I heard a wheezing sound of a woman who’s struggling with breathing. We appalled in the house and I staggered backwards flabbergasted. Jayden was half wolf and half human. His clothes ripped in sheds, and the most shocking part of it all was watching him lift the girl that told me I wasn’t wanted and not welcomed to be their luna. His claws dug deep in her clutched neck. The pain was too much for her that she gave up on struggling.
I watched in horror as his canines made contact with her neck in a hostile way that made me sick in my stomach. I can’t let the man I sherrish kill a person before my eyes because of me. I might be a no one cursed creature that came out of nowhere to ruin other people’s lives and happiness but I have the audacity to stop it. Jayden was terrifying but I advanced toward him and wrapped my hands around him in a tight back hug, exhorting him to stop. I felt his tensed body cool down and to my surprise he loosed his hold on her and she fell down and them announced as she’s no longer one of the pack members. I felt pity for her as I saw how hard she tried to beg for forgiveness but no words could come out because of the painful strangle she got. Her neck was bruised with Jayden’s claws and hand marks around it. Looking around, no one was tempted to stand up for her. They just kept their heads down like if they looked up they’d end up like her. Get her out of my sight. He graved. Godmother rushed down and dragged her out.
C’mon baby. Let’s get you back in the hospital. He said to me. You know very well how I hate hospitals. I’m perfectly….. the stab pain on the back of my head didn’t let me finish the “fine” word because I yowled. I was abruptly carried up by Jayden before turning to Jerome. Find me that witch. He mind linked but I heard it and it left me wondering whether he did it intentionally for me to hear it and as a sign that he wasnt done torturing. With a nod from Jerome, Jayden walked us into our room and carefully laid me on our untidy bed before sitting next to me.
“I’m sorry baby for what happened to you!”
It’s okay Jayden. Don’t blame yourself because you knew I’d be safe here because it’s forbidden for others to enter. And on top of that, you’re a responsible man to stick around me. Jayden, I called his name as we intertwined our hands. I know what that girl did was wrong but just let it go and forgive her.
I’m sorry baby, I can’t don’t do that.
She must’ve had her reasons to hate me.
Fuck her reasons. I want her far away from you because if she doesn’t I will make her life a disastrous one. And let’s put an end to this conversation and rest.
I’m serious Jayden, I want… and am deadly serious about the damn punishment I gave her. He said curtly, his voice full of vexation.
Alright, calm down. I said to him and then closed my eyes to sleep.
*****
I squeaked my eyes open and then squeezed them shut due to the bright light that shone through the curtains. I slowly opened my eyes adjusting the bright light. Peering around, I realised It’s already evening and Jayden was gone. I drew the covers off me before standing up. Before I could make it to the bedroom hallway, a tall figure appeared from it, marching toward me. I wasn’t given the chance to process the image before me because I was highly carried up and into his face. He was so tall that I felt like a kitten in his arms. He looked angry but at the same time soft hearted. He furiously spoke to me using the same language the snake used saying, “did you just defend her?” Alright then. I will forgive her this time because you defended her. But if she dares to touch you again, I will do worse than what your boyfriend did. If she dares poke her fingers at you, I will do worse than your boyfriend’s wolf would’ve done. After saying all that he went silent gazing at me intently. We owe your mother for raising you into a great woman. She raised you with love and a soft heart. But we aren’t sleeping to whoever dares to step on you. He gave me a simple smile and then sat me back on the bed. He placed a hand on my head, smiled again and then dispersed.
I jolted awake, sweaty and scared. I was trembling until Jayden pulled me close to him into a comforting embrace. It’s alright baby. I’m still here.
When the terror of the dream I had subsided I pulled away from Jayden’s embrace as he asked me what jolted me up. I told him about the dream and what he did was give me an emotionless stare.
Why is that look? It’s like you are aware of the dream– I stalled wide-eyed. I’m so vibrant and have no headache. I started examining my body like crazy trying to detect any single stung of pain but all was in vail. What happened? Am I dead? I pinched myself hard on my right cheek and I yelped in pain. Am still alive. Jayden clasped my shoulders in a gentle way and said, “you need to stop, baby! I know what happened.” I gave him an addled glare…..
I don’t know if this is right for me to say it. He said. Just say it. I demanded.
I’m sure your family once told you-you had your guardians watching over you and protecting you from harm.
Miss Olivier told me about them but she didn’t tell me the full version of the story.
Well then, the old man you saw in your sleep is one of your guardians and he healed you. The one I saw wasn’t old. I exclaimed. Well, that’s far beyond my knowledge but whenever I tried to ask them who they are to you, they just shut me down. What I’ve learnt is that they are the ones that killed the people you told me about. And what you should know catriona is that they don’t kill innocent people. If someone dies it means that person wished you the worst. That’s the little I know.
Jayden finished talking but at this rate I couldn’t feel my body. Fear ignited me once more emnating my body system that when I stood up my legs waggled. You okay baby. Jayden asked as he steadied me in his arms.
Lay down and rest more…..
I had enough rest. I said curtly. What I need now is to talk to that girl. I want to know why she hated me.
Are you talking about Eliana? He asked, his voice even but daring.
Don’t even stop me Jayden. Let me do it. It all happened because of the loathe they have toward me which I want to know where it comes from. From now and on let me handle whoever has a problem with me. Maybe they don’t like me because am black and human. They hate me because I don’t look friendly. Maybe if I befriend them and get close to them they’ll start seeing me as one of them or else accept me as their alpha’s mate.
“That’s enough Catriona! He snapped, making me shudder and astonished.
They’re all my people. I feed them. I cloth them. I treat them. I shelter them. No one has the right to tell me who I should mate with. I can mate with whichever type of woman am destinedto mate with. It doesn’t matter which colour she is. I dare whoever has a problem with my choice. His words were so touching that I felt hot tears streaming down my cheeks. He wiped them away as he deformed and placed his lips on mine. The kiss was so gentle and sweet but the moment he delved his tongue inside he waked hordes of butterflies in my stomach that I wanted nothing else other than him. Our kiss became intense and the moment he drew his hand under his shirt on my body and at the hem of my thong, tracing over it, I was lost. As he was slipping his hand inside my thong the door was opened and I immediately pulled away with a Jerk. Jerome emerged in and looked between us. He must’ve known what we were doing because he cleared his throat before apologising. The way Jayden clenched his jaws tells Jerome’s interruption is unwelcomed.
You should’ve mindlinked instead of cropping up like that. He said. I shouldn’t have come if you responded back. Jerome replied. What’s the matter? Jayden asked.
Jerome’s evasiveness caught my attention but before I could quiz him he hastened away closing the door. Jayden turned to me….
There’s some work that needs to be done.
Alright. As we talked, please don’t stop me from meeting that girl Eliana and the rest of the pack members.
He heaved a long frustrated sigh before saying, okay I won’t stop you, but promise me that you will be careful. I will. I replied. With that he marched toward the main door but halted to an abrupt stop benumbed, as if he’s seeing someone. “The next thing was watching him crumpling on the floor in a dead faint.”
