Chapter 23

Book:ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE Published:2024-5-1

VANESSA’S POV
Before we could finish the spell, there was a strong energy that came out of her and jerked us both away with force. We hovered down there shocked, of what had just happened.
“What in the world was that? My sister Vivian asked, still shocked. I gazed at her surprised and confused because I knew very well what that was. I saw it in Catriona’s eyes, and if I saw it, that means she saw it as well.
What happened? Alpha Jayden asked. Before any of us could respond to him, Catriona started shaking so much as her pupils went out of her eyes and left with only the scleras.
What’s wrong with her? What did you two do to her? Alpha Jayden asked, losing his shit. We all heard a strong voice that came out of Catriona speaking the language I’ve never or we both never heard of. It was coming out of her without opening her mouth. I could feel everyone’s eyes including mine widen in terror. We composed ourselves as we all asked the voice, “who are you?”
That is Catriona, she’s just playing with us. My sister said.
Let’s continue with the spell. She said to me, I grabbed her hand before she continued with the spell. She stopped and stared down where I grabbed her and then up to me. What are you doing? She asked.
Vivian my sister, let’s not do the spell now. She’s weak. I told her but as in to warn her and at the same time help her. Because I know what she wants to do. She shook her hand free from my grasp with hatred in her eyes towards me.
Vanessa, if you can’t do it, I’ll do it myself. I wanted to forgive you and set you free by giving you the ultimatums, she said. Vivian, I’m already old, there’s no need for you to set me free. I might be a witch but am not heartless to hurt that innocent kid. What you want… I couldn’t complete my sentence when we heard a strong thud. We spun around to see where the noise came from..
I gasped, clamping my mouth when I saw Alpha Jayden down unconscious. Without waiting another minute I rushed over to him and knelt down examining him. There’s nothing wrong with him, then what made him collapse? I self-asked the answers I didn’t have. Maybe it’s lack of sleep that made him tumble down and collapse. He works restlessly for his people, he buys food for us but he eats less. He makes sure that we don’t complain about anything. Ugh, you poor thing, why don’t you give yourself a rest? How will we be able to live without you? We want you to be healthy. Where will we get an Alpha like you who puts his people first before himself? I said with hurt because I see him as a son and don’t want to see him like this. It really breaks my heart. I’m a witch but he’s my Alpha and I love him.
I shouted calling the men outside the door to come and take him upstairs in his bedroom. But how will they take him when he doesn’t like anyone to enter his bedroom, and no one has ever entered his bedroom except his beta and his Mate. Three strong men came inside and carried him out. I told them to call their beta so that he can take him in his room. I turned around when I heard another painful cry from Catriona.
Vivian, “what did you do?” You didn’t have to do that. I told my sister after watching what she did.
It’s already done. Now my granddaughter will have no competitor. She said, Want nonsense, are you talking about Vivian? I matched over to her and looked at her warily. Vivian, never say that I didn’t warn you. I told her feeling disgusted that we share the same mother.
” And what are you going to do about it, my darling step sister?” She says as she strolled toward the door. She stopped and darted her eyes from Catriona to me. Should I be scared, my darling sister? She asked with full of derision. That’s ominous. Isn’t it my step sister? Yes, it is. I replied. Because I know it is ominous.
I called someone to come and help me carry her in the living room. Blood was oozing out of her and I cried in pain. She’d just lost a twin, it’s not even dusk and she’s going to lose the second twin. She’s going to lose it when she wakes up and finds out that she’s no longer pregnant. And Alpha Jayden, I don’t even want to think about how he’ll react when he wakes up. It’s going to be hell between me and my sister.
Oh good Lord, what happened to her? Sandra asked as we reached Catriona in the living room. “Why is she bleeding too much?” She asked, concerned about her friend. Girl will stop shouting. I gruffed. How can you tell me to stop when my friend is in that condition? She whisper-shout with teary eyes.
Ahhh, what is that smell? It’s disgusting. Eliana said.
Eliana is the grand-daughter of Vivian and what I can say is that they both have the same heart. The heart of evilness. I gave her a death glare. She shrugged nonchalantly, feigning her sympathy towards Catriona. It’s the truth, step-grandma. I closed my eyes feeling the urge of impelling her with my magic.
Grandma, let’s take her to the doctor. Sandra said, pulling me out of my thoughts.
*We reached her at the hospital and the nurses rushed her inside.*
After some good long hours, the doctor came toward where we were standing. Sandra was the first to ask , “doctor, how’s she? “Is she okay?” “What about the baby?” Is the baby okay? She was asking too much, not giving herself time to breathe.
She lost the baby. The doctor said, As soon as he said that, I just closed my eyes in fear and felt hurt for that poor kid. She didn’t deserve all this.
How’s she now, doctor? I asked. She’ll be fine if she stays in the hospital for some good days. Said the doctor. She’s awake if you want to see her. You can do that but it doesn’t take too long. All right doctor, thank you. He turned to Sandra before disappearing…
Ma’am is thinking about a lot of things right now, she’s not speaking and she won’t even if you speak to her. Her mind is full of bad things that have happened to her, and she’s hurt because of her babies. And you have to understand her if she refuses to speak to you. She needs to be consoled. When she’s ready, she’ll speak, but give her time. The doctor said, The whole time Sandra was sniveling. Okay doctor, I will do that. She replied.
I left the hospital and went back to the house. I was about to open the entrance door of the house when someone opened it from inside, and it was no one other than Alpha Jayden himself. As soon as he stepped down from the frontal steps, he grabbed me by the neck and lifted me up in the air using one hand, choking me as if I weighed nothing.
“What did you do to my Mate you witch? “What did you do to her? ” Tell me right now before I kill you now. TELL ME! He yelled as his eyes became red, and I knew from this moment that I’m dead if I don’t do something about it. I ran a magic spell under the difficulty of breathing. He let go of my neck and I fell down on the ground coughing so hard.
I’ll explain everything to you when you’re calm. I told him as I pushed myself up. I moved three steps and stopped when he called me by name…
Vanessa, I’m really sorry for treating you like that. I know you can’t do anything to hurt me or the person I love. I’m truly sorry for that. He said. I just nodded and gave him a slight smile before heading inside.
*****
It’s been four days now since that incident of Catriona happened. She was discharged today from the hospital but still she was not speaking to anyone. I know for sure that she’s still hurting inside and decided not to talk to anyone. I went upstairs to the 6th floor in her room, when she saw me she just closed her eyes and laid down on the bed and faced me backwards.
Forgive me child if I somehow hurted you. I’m truly and deeply sorry. She ignored me and I knew that she didn’t want to see me. I turned around to leave but stopped when I saw the tear drops running down on the bridge of her nose. I couldn’t help myself watching her in so much aching pain of losing her babies because of me. I just left her room and hurtled on Sandra who was coming carrying a hot bowl of rice porridge.
I headed downstairs on the 2rd floor and into Vivian’s room. Ever since the incident, Vivian became very sick but she tries so much to hide it from me and all the pack members. I found her still tucked into the covers which is very rare.
In our early ages, something bad happened between the two of us and ever since then, she hates me. She hated me and did something that was so painful in my whole life. Even though she hates me and did what she did to me, I still loved her.
Vanessa, I don’t want to see your face, get out of my bedroom. She said,
Vivian I know what you’re going through right now and we both know the cause of it. Your only cure to your pain right now is to tell the truth and ask for forgiveness to Catriona and Alpha Jayden. If you keep pretending that you’re fine and keep on denying the truth, you know the consequence to that. I know you don’t like me and I accepted that. If you can’t do it for me, do it for your beloved grand-daughter. I told her.
I said I want you out of my bedroom, NOW. she barked.
Okey Vivian, there is no need to bark for me to hear you. I’ll leave but think about what I told you. We may have our indifference but you’re still my sister. I said to her and stormed out of her bedroom.
The house was very quiet today. You can say that no one lives in it.
I went on the 1st floor in one of the biggest wings and headed into the kid’s play room. It’s a large play room with every kind of play toys and animal stuff. As soon as the kids saw me, they left what they were doing and came running and hugged me. We missed you grandma. They all said warming my heart with their little voices. I missed you too, my pumpkins.
I spent most of the time with them. We sang, danced and told them like hundreds of kids stories. By the time I left, I was worned out. I crossed from the kid’s wing and into the kitchen to get myself a glass of warm water. Before I stepped in the kitchen, I saw Alpha Jayden shifting and sprinting into the wood. “What is it this time? “Can’t he have a time of self rest.”
I stepped in the kitchen and filled the glass with warm water and drank it in one go. After playing with those kids for a long time, my throat was dry and I needed to smooth it out with warm water.
Getting out of the kitchen I saw Sandra pacing around biting her fingernails frantically. I traipsed over to her and asked her what the matter is?
“What is it, child?” I asked again.
“Grandma,” Catriona is gone.
