Shannon still kept her head down and smiled sweetly, speaking as if she wanted everyone to know how happy she was.
Ranita held her phone and looked at it carefully.
It was indeed Brendon calling. If Brendon was calling her, then who was Shannon talking to?
“Brendon… I can’t talk to you now, Ranita looks a bit unhappy. Let’s talk when we get home. I’ll go to work first,” Shannon said softly, her eyes filled with a provocative gaze.
Shannon hung up the phone, looking up with her beautiful innocent eyes. If Ranita didn’t know how dirty she was, she might have been deceived by her appearance.
“Ranita, your phone has been ringing. Aren’t you going to answer?” Shannon reminded her, adding with a hint of grievance, “I didn’t mean to show off. It was Brendon who called me.”
“Ranita, if I upset you, I’m sorry,” Shannon paused and then thoughtfully added, “You should answer your call. Don’t keep your friend waiting.”
Brendon’s call persisted, the ringtone turned down, but being close, it was still audible.
Ranita looked at her meaningfully.
Shannon was an excellent actress. If Brendon hadn’t called her just then, she might have been tricked.
A self-directed and self-acted scene, truly a fine show.
“Ranita… are you okay?” Shannon asked sweetly, “Why are you looking at me like that? I…”
Ranita smiled at her, “It’s nothing, I just need to answer a call.”
Turning around, she mischievously showed the phone screen to Shannon, then walked away leaving Shannon stunned and shocked.
She walked a little further away and answered the call, “Yes?” her voice extremely cold.
On the other end, Brendon took a moment before asking, “Where are you?”
“At work,” Ranita paused and then said, “Once you wake up, clean up and go home.”
Ranita crossed her arms, turning back to see Shannon’s tearful eyes looking at her. She tilted her head and asked, “Did you sleep well last night?”
“Ranita, I… didn’t mean to, I drank too much,” Brendon said awkwardly, his tone somewhat cautious and apprehensive as if afraid of her anger, “I’m sorry.”
“Okay, is there anything else?” Ranita paused, “If there’s nothing else, just leave quickly.”
Brendon was silent again for a while.
Then he asked softly, “I didn’t do anything strange last night, did I?”
“Think for yourself,” Ranita said, rubbing her temples at the thought of last night, “I have work to do, I’m hanging up.”
As soon as she hung up, she received a message from Ayaan asking where she was. Ranita truthfully told her son and reminded him to eat well and behave.
Turning her head, she met Shannon’s resentful and hateful gaze, which was almost unbearable.
“Ranita!” but in an instant, Shannon smiled sweetly at her, as if it had been an illusion.
“Who was that call from?”
Ranita looked at her coldly, amazed at her thick skin, “A friend.”
“Really? But I thought I saw…” Shannon leaned in as if to provoke.
Ranita took two steps back, pointing to the ceiling, her gaze ice-cold, “Ms. Murphy, watch out for the surveillance cameras above.”
Shannon gritted her teeth, her eyes full of hatred.
