“I’m not angry! If you want to go, go ahead. Why do you have to use me as an excuse…” Ranita gritted her teeth, her cheeks puffed up. “I won’t complain even if I find out!”
“See… You say you’re not angry!” Brendon chuckled softly, resting his chin on her shoulder. “Even if I go, can you accompany me?”
“Otherwise, I’m afraid she’ll bother me, and then you’ll get angry again.”
Ranita blushed at his words.
She wasn’t jealous!
“I already said I’m not angry!” Ranita was actually quite happy. Because of her, Brendon broke off the engagement with Shannon and started to keep his distance. It was something worth celebrating for her.
“I don’t want to go see her with you either!” Ranita grimaced. “She falsely accused me before and made me suffer so much. I don’t want to deal with her.”
Brendon tightened his grip on her arm. “I’m sorry! I was wrong before.”
“If you don’t go, I won’t go either.” Brendon paused and grabbed her hand, placing it on his cheek. “It hurts.”
“What happened?” Ranita asked worriedly.
“Did you get hurt?”
Brendon nodded, his voice sounding a bit aggrieved. “I got slapped when I went there.”
“An elderly person slapped me, and I didn’t fight back.”
Getting slapped also showed Brendon’s determination to break off.
Ranita felt extremely distressed, her eyes welling up. “Does it hurt?”
“It doesn’t hurt anymore!” The man held her hand against his lips, lightly kissing it. “Ranita, from now on, I won’t let you go.”
Ranita’s heart was about to burst.
Her eyes were sore, and she pretended to sound light-hearted as she asked, “Are you going to confess to me now?”
“Yes!”
Their eyes met, and they became each other’s sole focus.
Brendon’s palm pressed against her lower back, his eyes filled with scorching heat and affection. Ranita’s mind became dizzy, and her heart almost jumped out of her chest.
“Ranita, I broke off with Shannon, and now I can officially pursue you!”
Ranita had been waiting for him for a long, long time. She probably never dreamed that Brendon would say such words one day.
Her heart felt both sour and sweet.
Of course, it was mostly chaotic.
Ranita’s heart was in complete chaos, unable to think clearly, unsure whether she should believe him or not.
“What’s wrong? Are you unhappy?” Brendon cradled her face and placed a kiss on the corner of her lips.
Ranita grabbed his hand and shook her head. “I’m not unhappy.”
But she didn’t say she was happy either.
Ranita pursed her lips. “Let’s talk about us later. You should handle things with Miss Murphy first.”
“Today…” Ranita opened her mouth but then felt it was unnecessary to say anything.
“What’s wrong? Did something difficult come up?” Brendon asked her. Ranita shook her head. “There’s nothing difficult to handle.”
Brendon looked at her intently, then suddenly reached out and pinched her cheek. “Really?”
“What are you doing!” Her voice sounded coquettish, with a slight nasal tone, as if she was acting spoiled. “It hurts!”
“Well, tell me…” Before he could finish his sentence, Brendon’s phone suddenly rang. He took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID-it was Shannon calling.
Brendon frowned, about to hang up, but Ranita stopped him. “Just answer it. I actually want to hear what Miss Murphy has to say.”
