Chapter 639 Inheritance

Book:A Successful Career After Divorce Published:2024-6-4

“Mrs. Murphy, I think you’ve got the wrong person. You shouldn’t be looking for me,” Ranita said seriously, her eyes clear and her tone confident. “You are Brendon’s elder, and you should understand his character. It’s his decision to divorce Miss Murphy, and I can’t intervene.”
Ranita used to have a good impression of Lena, but after her words, that impression quickly dissipated.
“Furthermore, do you know what your daughter has done to me? If you are aware of it and still defend Miss Murphy so staunchly, then I suppose I understand. Disgusting abilities must be inherited in the Murphy family.”
Ranita’s words were not polite at all.
Ranita remembered every cruel thing Shannon had done to her, and one day she would reclaim them all.
Lena maintained her smile on her face.
They say the quietest dogs are the most dangerous, and Shannon was skilled in that aspect, but Lena was even more proficient.
“Miss Bowman, no matter what Shannon has done, as her mother, of course, I will unconditionally stand by her side. In addition, as I’ve said, whatever conditions you propose, I can compensate you.”
“Although money isn’t everything, life is even harder without it. Miss Bowman, I believe you are an intelligent person, and you have a child to support. Why not take some money and live your own life instead of getting involved in this mess?”
Lena’s impression of Ranita still remained four years ago when she knew that Wyatt had brought her back, alone in Kurima, without any background.
“Mrs. Murphy, you want to give me money?” Ranita pursed her lips, finding it somewhat unbelievable.
“How much do you want?”
Ranita smiled faintly, “Mrs. Murphy, how much do you want to give? Why not just state the amount?”
Lena thought she was being sensible and handed the prepared check to Ranita. “It’s not easy for you to raise a child. Here is five million. It should be enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life. I only have one request, don’t disturb or intervene in the relationship between my daughter and Brendon.”
Ranita glanced at the check.
Even Amiya wouldn’t dare to throw a check at her. She had inherited a large fortune, and when it came down to it, Lena might not be wealthier than her.
“Miss Bowman, if you can’t make a decision now…” Lena looked at Ranita, who remained unmoved. “I can give you some time to think about it.”
Ranita slowly sipped her coffee.
After drinking more than half a cup, Ranita gently pushed the check back. “Mrs. Murphy, I have carefully considered it. I don’t want to receive rewards for doing nothing. Please take back this money.”
“Miss Bowman, are you really not going to reconsider?” Lena raised an eyebrow, but she remained composed.
Ranita smiled without warmth, “Well, in that case, how about this? I’ll pay double the amount to ask you and Miss Murphy to never appear in front of me again?”
After saying that, Ranita took out a blank check from her bag. “Ten million may not be enough. Mrs. Murphy, you can ask for more. I just hope that money can buy me peace of mind.”
Lena frowned, a hint of displeasure in her expression, but it quickly dissipated, and she wore a faint smile. “I underestimated you, Miss Bowman.”
“People can make mistakes, can’t they, Mrs. Murphy?” Pausing for a moment, Ranita put down her coffee cup. “Mrs. Murphy, thank you for the coffee. It tastes great.”
Lena’s lips curved lightly, and her eyes carried the same smile, as if she was talking to an old friend. “Miss Bowman, you’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
