“Mom, I beg you! Please help me! I can’t be without Brendon. I’ve liked him for so many years, and I’ve always believed that I would be his wife and spend my life with him,” Shannon cried, biting her lip.
Lena’s heart softened when she saw her daughter crying, but she came with instructions from Malachi this time.
“If you want us to help you, we can, but your father wants you to leave the entertainment industry,” Lena paused and added, “Besides, didn’t you say you want to marry Brendon? Once you’re married, you’ll be the mistress of Boulderland Mansion. It wouldn’t be appropriate for you to continue appearing in public.”
After Lena finished speaking, Shannon hesitated. “Mom… Dad is being too much. He wants to control everything!”
“Fine, then we won’t interfere with your matters!” Lena felt sorry for her daughter, but Malachi’s opinion was more important, so Lena had to pretend to be indifferent.
Shannon angrily whimpered, “Is it really going to be like this?”
“Yes, it is!”
“Fine! I’ll agree with Dad!” Shannon gritted her teeth and added in a more aggrieved tone, “But you have to help me with Dad.”
Lena patted her hand reassuringly. “Okay! Now rest well. I have some things to take care of.”
Ranita had just come out of Gauss Technology when a well-dressed man intercepted her and said, “Miss Bowman, our lady would like to meet you. Please follow me.”
“Who is your lady?” Ranita asked.
“Our lady is from the Murphy family,” the man replied and gestured for her to follow.
Polite, yet assertive.
Ranita immediately guessed it. If it’s Murphy, it’s either Amiya or someone from the Murphy family!
Ranita didn’t show any fear. “Lead the way.”
They entered a nearby café. A beautiful lady was elegantly sipping her coffee. When she looked up and saw Ranita, the lady seemed momentarily stunned.
Lena used to be an actress and naturally had exceptional looks. Even now, in her older age, she still had a captivating charm.
What surprised Lena was that Ranita’s facial features bore a slight resemblance to her younger self.
Lena should have disliked her, but with just one glance, she inexplicably felt a slight fondness towards her.
Feeling a bit annoyed, Lena’s attitude became somewhat perfunctory.
“You must be Ranita, right? Please have a seat,” Lena said.
“Thank you, Mrs. Murphy.” Ranita sat down, and immediately someone brought her a hot cup of coffee. Ranita lowered her gaze and asked, “May I know why you wanted to see me?”
Lena got straight to the point. “I am Shannon’s mother, Lena. I’ve heard about your situation. You were married to Brendon under the arrangement of the late Mr. Stuart, but there wasn’t much affection between you two. Later, you left with the money from Mr. Stuart, cutting ties with the Stuart family. And now, you’ve returned with a child.”
“Whether or not you have a child is your own business, and I can’t stop you from coming back. However, if because of you, my daughter suffers and is forced to break off her engagement with her beloved fiancé, then I have to attribute the cause to you.”
Lena expressed herself logically in every sentence, but each one carried a condescending threat.
“Miss Bowman, Shannon and Brendon have grown up together and are a perfect match. They are each other’s best destiny. But because of you, Shannon has been in and out of the hospital several times and even developed depression. As her mother, I really don’t want to meddle in the affairs between you young people, but I have no choice…”
Lena smiled elegantly at Ranita and spoke quickly, “Miss Bowman, as long as you willingly leave and no longer interfere in their relationship, I can promise you whatever compensation you want.”
