Amiya’s face turned dark as she ended the call.
“What.. what happened?” Shannon looked at Amiya pitifully, her weak eyes filled with hope.
Amiya was infuriated but couldn’t bring herself to tell Shannon the truth. “Shannon, don’t worry! Your engagement with Brendon is just between the two of you. As long as your parents and I don’t agree, he’ll have to take responsibility for you.”
“It’s all because of that damn old man. If he hadn’t interfered, you would have become my daughter-in-law long ago, and we wouldn’t have been delayed for so many years.”
“Shannon, you are the daughter-in-law I have chosen, and I will always stand by your side!” Amiya paused, furrowing her brows. “But really, why didn’t you tell me about such a big matter in advance? I could have helped you clean up the situation before Brendon found out…”
Amiya was genuinely biased towards Shannon. After learning about Shannon’s mistakes, she didn’t blame her but instead complained that Shannon didn’t inform her earlier.
“Amiya … I’m sorry… I was in a hurry at that time. I was afraid that Brendon wouldn’t divorce her, so I had to resort to this plan.”
Shannon pretended to be pitiful. “Amiya, can you forgive me?”
“Alright, can I stay angry with you? The key now is Brendon!” Amiya gritted her teeth. “Ranita is truly a disaster! We shouldn’t have let her leave so easily back then.”
“What… what should I do now? Brendon wants to call off the engagement, and he doesn’t care about my life or death anymore…”
Shannon cried and complained, and Amiya immediately comforted her. “Don’t worry, it won’t be so easy as long as our families don’t agree to cancel the engagement.”
“Rest well and stop thinking about such negative things! We’re here for you!” As Amiya left, an elegant and beautiful woman entered.
When Shannon saw her, she immediately hid under the covers and didn’t come out.
“Why are you hiding?” Lena sat down gracefully and reached out to pull away the covers. “You’re willing to go to such extremes for a man. Are you doing justice to the parents who raised you and your family?”
Lena spoke with a stern face and sighed helplessly when she saw Shannon’s teary and pitiful expression. “Alright, forget it. I won’t scold you anymore. You’ve been fixated on Brendon since you were young. I’m tired of talking about it.”
“Mom…” Shannon bit her lip and coquettishly looked at Lena. “Mom, did Brendon go to our house to call off the engagement? Did Dad agree?”
“What do you think?” Lena gave her a displeased glare. “Your dad slapped him! But Brendon was determined, not joking around.”
“Mom… did Dad use too much force? How could he hit him!” Shannon pouted.
Lena snorted, “Look at what a mess you’ve made. Your dad already showed you mercy by not hitting you. And you’re worried about Brendon?!”
Shannon’s decision to enter the entertainment industry had upset Malachi Murphy, leading to a strained relationship between father and daughter.
“Mom! You know I love him!”
“Even if that’s the case, you can’t joke around with your own body. How many times have you ended up in the hospital because of him? Let me tell you, if you continue like this, your dad will really sever ties with you!”
Lena came from a noble background. Although she had spent some time in the entertainment industry, she ultimately obediently followed the family’s arrangements and married Malachi, becoming a wealthy housewife.
“But…” Shannon bit her lip, looking pitifully at Lena. “Mom! I’m being bullied to death, and you’re treating me like this?”
“This time, you have to help me! I don’t want to call off the engagement with Brendon!” Shannon pleaded, looking at Lena. “As long as Dad and brother help, Brendon won’t be able to call off the engagement.”
