Book:A Successful Career After Divorce Published:2024-6-4

“Ranita… I did it for you,” Brendon’s low voice was filled with deep emotion, hitting Ranita’s heart like a boulder. She stared blankly at Brendon, struggling to find her voice.
“What do you mean?” she finally managed to ask.
“I mean that I did it for you. I like you and that’s why I want to remarry you,” Brendon said as he caressed her wrist, his eyes fixed on her.
“So can you wait for me?”
Ranita’s heart was in turmoil. She didn’t know how to answer and wasn’t sure what Brendon meant exactly.
“Brendon, give me some time to think,” Ranita said. She needed time to process everything because she had gotten used to his ambiguous attitude towards her and now he suddenly confessed his feelings for her which left her confused.
Her mind was overwhelmed!
“That’ll be one minute!” Brendon paused before continuing, “Then we’ll talk about this properly.”
“One minute is not enough!” Ranita gritted her teeth. “Can’t you get off me? You’re making me uncomfortable.”
As she spoke, Ranita felt heat rising in her ears.
She lay on the bed, while Brendon knelt on either side of her, his arms propped up, staring down at her, giving her a feeling of being at the mercy of a butcher on a chopping board.
“One minute is almost up, calm down, let’s continue talking…”
Just then, Brendon’s phone started ringing.
The atmosphere seemed to instantly dilute, and Brendon frowned but ignored the phone. “Let’s focus on what we’re saying!”
However, the phone kept ringing incessantly, showing no signs of stopping.
Ranita also calmed down a bit. She pushed the man’s arm and said with embarrassment, “You should answer the call! It’s probably something urgent.”
Brendon went to get the phone, and Ranita followed suit, tidying up her coat. She didn’t intentionally eavesdrop, but she could still hear fragments of sobbing.
It must be Shannon.
Ranita pursed her lips and couldn’t help but look at Brendon. The man furrowed his brow, but he still patiently listened to the phone call.
Ranita felt a sense of discomfort in her heart.
He openly favored Shannon, always, but still lied to her, saying he loved her. Ranita felt so foolish, for forgetting the past hurt because of a clumsy lie.
“Shannon, please don’t cry… Tell me what’s wrong.”
“I’m busy here, I might not be able to rush back.” As he spoke, Brendon glanced at Ranita, afraid that she would run away.
Ranita listened quietly as he spoke in a gentle and low tone, “I’ll call my mom later. Don’t worry about her birthday banquet if you’re not feeling well.”
“It’s still early morning there. Take some rest.”
She didn’t know what Shannon said, but Brendon furrowed his brow and said, “What gift do you want? I’ll bring it back for you.”
The more Ranita listened, the more she felt that she shouldn’t be here.
She turned around to leave.
“Ranita! Stop!” At the doorway, she was stopped, and Brendon had already hung up the phone. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going back to rest. I won’t disturb your phone conversation.” Ranita sidestepped, but her waist was firmly held by Brendon. He explained softly in her ear, “Shannon isn’t feeling well, she can’t sleep, that’s why she called me.”
“And then?” Ranita raised her eyes, her expression cold.
“Don’t misunderstand…” Brendon was interrupted by her.
“She is your fiancée, whatever you talk about on the phone, I don’t need to misunderstand. It… has nothing to do with me.”
