“The results of the paternity test you wanted are out, but I haven’t given them to Mrs. Stuart yet,” Carlee paused and asked, “Shannon, are you sure about this?”
“It’s an innocent life.”
Hearing this, Shannon immediately felt wronged and said, “But if I don’t do this, how can Brendon’s heart come back to me?”
“Carlee, you promised to help me!”
Carlee sighed. “With this report we can force Ranita out of Kurima. Once she leaves, let’s not continue with this anymore.”
Shannon spoke in a pitiful voice. “Okay okay, I understand. Thank you Carlee. Without you… I don’t know what I would do!”
While speaking kindly on the surface though Shannon was thinking about getting rid of the child in Ranita’s belly as soon as she forced her out of Kurima.
However now there were only a few days left.
As soon as Carlee hung up the phone from Shannon, she received a call from Amiya who asked right away, “Are the results out? Why haven’t they been delivered yet?”
Carlee pursed her lips and said, “They just came out recently so I still have to verify them…”
“Didn’t they say that it takes at most six or seven hours for results? How come it’s been two days without any news?” Amiya was very dissatisfied with that answer.
Carlee quickly replied, “Once I verify everything myself, then I’ll personally deliver the results to you so please rest assured!”
“Fine! Get me those results ASAP!” Amiya coldly snorted before hanging up.
In another room, Ranita endured discomfort while eating half a bowl of rice and asking Brendon, “Brendon, may I leave now since I’ve eaten something?”
Brendon handed her a bowl of soup saying, “This is yam pork rib soup; drink some.”
Ranita pursed her lips and drank it silently like a robot until finishing it all before asking again, “Can we go now?”
Seeing her like this, Brendon felt uneasy. But at least she had eaten more, and as long as she continued to eat well, she might gain a bit of weight back, looking less fragile.
“I’ll take you back.”
In the car, Brendon lowered his head to check emails, while Ranita stared blankly out of the car window. The strange atmosphere made Caleb, who was driving, uncomfortable. He sneakily looked at Ranita several times, only to be sternly caught by Brendon and given a cold look. Caleb had no choice but to focus on driving.
Initially, Ranita was indeed admiring the scenery, but lately, she had been fond of sleeping. The rocking of the car made her feel drowsy. With her back relaxed, Ranita closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
The scent of cedar lingered around her nose, and she seemed to be dreaming… Dreaming of Brendon standing next to ivy, gazing at the bright sunlight, and turning back to look at her.
An eternal glance.
Ranita could never forget this person.
Although later on, she realized he wasn’t looking at her; he was just greeting his friend…
“Brendon…” Ranita’s head tilted, murmuring as she leaned against the man’s shoulder. Brendon didn’t dare to move, just stealing a glance at her.
How nice it would be if Ranita could come back!
He really missed Ranita.
“Brendon…” Ranita murmured again, her fingers aimlessly grasping until she held his. His knuckles were slender, carrying a warm temperature. Holding Ranita’s hand made him feel content and secure.
Brendon didn’t disturb her, quietly watching over her, holding her hand and humming softly, “Sleep well.”
The car sped along.
When they arrived at Ranita’s apartment building, Brendon didn’t wake her up. Instead, he let her continue sleeping, leaning against his shoulder.
