Chapter 55 Dead

Book:Welcome To My Life Published:2024-6-3

Yolanda Taylor hurried back to Oman City, where Dika Rothstein heard she was back and asked her to dinner the next day.
Yolanda Taylor hadn’t slept very well in the past two days, she always had really messed up dreams that she woke up and forgot about, but when she fell asleep she was wide awake.
In the dream she was begging for a man, however the man only gave her his back, she couldn’t see his face and didn’t know who he was.
Last night she had the same dream again, and this time when she woke up, she even realized that her pillow was wet.
Yolanda Taylor sat on her bed for a while until she saw Dika Rothstein’s message vibrate and she snapped out of it, rushing to wash up and get ready to go out.
Around eleven, Dika Rothstein called, “I’m downstairs at your house.”
“I’ll be right down!”
It wasn’t a very nice day, and Yolanda Taylor glanced out the window to see that it was overcast, and hesitated, but put her scarf on as well.
Just walking out of her apartment, Yolanda Taylor saw Dika Rothstein’s car.
“How long have you been here?”
It was a really cold day, and when she opened her mouth, it was white air.
She hurriedly got into the passenger side, and the warmth inside the car kept Yolanda Taylor from having to shiver.
Dika Rothstein asked her as she started the car, “What brings you back so suddenly?”
Yolanda Taylor pursed her lips and hesitated a little, “I ran into a very strange man over there.”
Dika Rothstein had been by her side for almost all of the past three years.
She knew that it was a bit mean of her to hang out with him even though she didn’t like him, but all her old memories were gone, and it seemed that Dika Rothstein was the only friend left around her. Yolanda Taylor really didn’t know what connection she had left with the world if she broke the connection with Dika Rothstein.
Dika Rothstein is the only friend who knows about her past, and Yolanda Taylor can only tell Dika Rothstein these things.
Dika Rothstein didn’t think much of it, but there was a red light in front of him, so he stopped the car and looked at her with his head inclined: “Who?”
“He said his name was Gwen Fox.”
As soon as he heard her say that, Dika Rothstein’s face froze white.
Yolanda Taylor looked out the car window and didn’t notice the change in him, just talking to herself, “I don’t know why, but the first time I saw him, my headache felt like it was going to explode. The second time I saw him at the airport, I didn’t have a headache anymore, but my heart sank as if something was weighing it down, and even breathing was difficult. Dika Rothstein, who the hell is he, and why have I spent the last two nights-”
She turned her head sideways and suddenly saw Dika Rothstein blushing, those dark brown eyes actually holding hate within them.
Yolanda Taylor froze and tried to raise her hand to touch him, “Dika Rothstein?”
Tapped on the shoulder by Yolanda Taylor, Dika Rothstein snapped back to his senses, he collected his face, his eyes were still just a little red, “He’s not a good person, and it’s all because of him that you had an accident three years ago.”
Yolanda Taylor had wanted to ask further, but seeing him in this state, she was afraid that if she asked further, something would happen, so she nodded her head and didn’t continue, “I know.”
Dika Rothstein opened the window a crack, the cold cold wind blew in and hit his face, he was much more awake and his face gradually eased up.
Twenty minutes later, the car stopped.
Yolanda Taylor unbuckled herself and gathered her scarf before following Dika Rothstein out of the car.
This was a restaurant they ate at often, and the waitresses already knew them.
Seeing them, the waiter smiled and greeted, “Mr. Rothstein, Miss Taylor, so free today.”
Yolanda Taylor nodded and smiled, “Yeah, just happened to be on vacation.”
The waiter guided them into the private room, Yolanda Taylor ordered two of her favorite dishes without even looking at the menu.
Dika Rothstein flipped it on its head instead and ordered a new dish, adding two of her signature dishes.
He had calmed down enough to look across the table at Yolanda Taylor, “You came back early from Borden City because you ran into him?”
Yolanda Taylor nodded, “He kept following me and I was a little scared.”
Dika Rothstein snorted, “You don’t need to worry about him, he’s a crazy person coming, just walk as far away as you can when you see him from now on. If you see him following you again, call me immediately, got it?”
When he said this, his tone was a cold harshness that Yolanda Taylor had rarely seen.
She didn’t dare to be perfunctory and nodded her head seriously, “I know.”
After saying that, Yolanda Taylor pursed her lips for a second, “Dika, haven’t I had a lover before?”
Yolanda Taylor seldom called him Dika, because she felt that the title was a bit too intimate, and when she called him Dika, it was mostly because she had something to ask of him.
Dika Rothstein’s face sank a bit when he heard her say that, “Yes.”
Seeing his bad face, Yolanda Taylor poured him a glass of water, “And where is he?”
“Dead, died in that accident.”
Yolanda Taylor was stunned for a moment, “Then it’s a miracle I survived.”
Dika Rothstein pursed her lips, not wanting to talk about it anymore.
Probably because she learned that her former lover died, Yolanda Taylor was not in a very good mood for the whole meal, she did not have much appetite, even her former favorite dishes did not eat a few bites.
When Dika Rothstein saw her like this, she wanted to say something, but thinking of the lie she just told, she finally held back.
Forget it, Gwen Fox, there is no difference between being alive and being dead.
If he hadn’t realized that something was wrong with Yolanda Taylor earlier, then Yolanda Taylor’s ashes would really be buried inside that grave.
Thinking about this, even though three years had passed, even now, Dika Rothstein was still a little frightened.
He looked up at the listless Yolanda Taylor and sighed, “Don’t think too much, since you’re not in the mood, I’ll send you back to rest?”
Yolanda Taylor had an unusual friendship with him and was not polite, putting down her chopsticks, “Okay.”
On the way back, neither of them spoke.
The car stopped under the apartment building, Yolanda Taylor was not in a good mood, just said she was going back and got out.
Dika Rothstein nodded and watched her go inside the apartment, and it was only after half a minute that he opened a third of the windows, letting the cold wind blow on his face, and then lowered his head and lit a cigarette.
Gwen Fox was nowhere to be found after they’d helped bury Yolanda Taylor back then; some said he’d gone and jumped overboard to kill himself, others said he’d gone off to become a monk.
But whichever theory it is, it’s true that no one can find Gwen Fox anyway.
He’d thought that Oman City, separated from Borden City by nearly a thousand kilometers, one coastal and one inland, two places that weren’t even remotely connected, would be a good place for him and Yolanda Taylor to survive.
He’d been chasing her for three years, and she’d always refused.
But he didn’t care, after all, she would always fall in love with herself after time.
He felt that three years is not enough time, then six years, six years is not enough, then nine years, he has plenty of time, can always wait.
However, he never thought that Yolanda Taylor was just going on a business trip, but she actually ran into Gwen Fox, who had disappeared for three years.
Dika Rothstein has never been so unhappy, he felt that fate is really playing tricks on people, the Fox family has sent so many people to find Gwen Fox can not be found, Yolanda Taylor so once in a while, she ran into someone.
Is it really destiny?
But he was unwilling to do so.
Closing his eyes, he stubbed out the cigarette in his hand for half a second before driving away.
