Taking the look at the call, it was his housing agent that was calling him.
“Hello, Daniel I hope you have some good news for me”, he spoke out sitting back on his bed while waiting for his response.
” Yes, Mr. Henry I do. I have found something that is very nice and comfortable you will like it”, Daniel let out assuring Henry of the authenticity of his information.
“Since that is the case, I will send someone to meet you now and as soon as he confirms everything to be perfect like you said, I will pay your money into your account straight away, do we have a deal?”, Henry uttered thinking of the person he was to call to go have a look at what his agent had found.
Yes, we have a deal and you can call on me anytime Mr. Henry”.
Henry asked him to send the address to him and wishing him a lively day, he hung up the call.
Looking at the time as he left the house for Bethany’s house, Duke could not help but think back to what the doctor had said to him regarding Mrs. Marvin’s health and asking himself questions, he needed to get to the bottom as soon as possible.
Bethany had succeeded in putting her friend to bed and unable to understand what she had narrated earlier to her, she felt bad for her as she was still convalescent.
” Henry is not a bad person Eva and if you do not believe that he loves you, I do as I have seen him shown that to you in many different ways especially when you were in danger”, Bethany spoke out thinking about it and knowing that there was to be a possible explanation for what had happened.
Fixing her head on the pillow and letting her face some rest, Bethany went out into the living room, inquiring from Bryan whether their mom was not yet back, shaking his head, he said no.
Taking Glenn into her arms, she complained of being hungry. Bethany asked Rachel whether Glenn had not eaten yet, she said that she had given her some scrambled eggs.
“What will you like to eat baby?”, Bethany raised a question caressing her cheek.
” I want some ice cream”, Glenn spoke out wearing a smile. Bethany felt happy that they were coping and were strong kids even when their elder sister was still at the hospital.
Rachel Stared at Bethany and having a question that had been disturbing her, she confided in her that she will love to talk to her alone. Bethany raised her head and saw how serious Rachel’s face was, her heartbeat a little as she was aware of the fact that, Rachel is a very smart kid.
Turning her Gaze to Bryan who was concentrated on his video game, she shook her head in disappointment as he was good at nothing except for playing that. Having no choice, she had to step out with Glenn with them, to listen to what was on Rachel had on her mind.
Reaching the terrace, Bethany asked Rachel to sit down on the bench that was standing there and have a seat as well, she carried Glenn on her laps who was still innocent and spent her time playing.
Taking I’m a deep breath and exhaling as though she was about to read out her will, she looked at Bethany in the eyes letting out,
“I have noticed that Eva is not in good shape since she came back from the hospital”.
” Why will you say that Rachel?”, Bethany raised a question, making an effort to deviate Rachel’s attention from what she was thinking about as she said that it was not true. Telling her that Eva was just depleted as she had suffered so much those past days, Rachel took out her hand and told Bethany not to lie to her.
Faced with the situation, Bethany knew that she could not turn it anymore, so telling Rachel not to worry herself about Eva as she was going through something that adults go through, she tried her possible best to keep a steady voice.
Realizing that Rachel was beginning to understand what she was explaining, she let out a smile saying,
“You are such a beautiful young girl darling and I know that you will be great, but as for now, this issue is not for teenagers okay?”.
” Okay Betty, I understand and I promise to not bother you with this anymore”, she spoke out.
Caressing her hair, she smiled at her as she assured her that it was not a bother but telling her to be a good girl and to focus on her books as school was going to resume soon, she told her to always be happy.
Rachel’s face turned red and not being able to hide her emotions she tired her face in embarrassment as she told Bethany that she was no longer a little girl. Astonished by her words Bethany coughed out so loud that Glenn who was sitting on her laps, began laughing too.
Not understanding why Glenn had suddenly started shaking on her body, she asked her whether she wanted them to go get some ice cream but Glenn kept on pointing at the food and saying,
“Uncle is here, he is here”.
Bethany turned her look at Rachel while they both looked at the road to glimpse at who she was referring to as uncle, she could observe Duke who was parking his car before the entrance of the house.
Rachel was happy to see Duke again, and without thinking about anything else, she stood up to her feet and rushed to embrace him as he stepped out of the car.
A smile could be seen formed around Bethany’s lips and before she could let Glenn down as she was wiggling so much, she had already stepped down and wanting to run almost immediately as her leg had just touched the ground, she chop down and Glenn not being able to take the pains, she let out a sound cry.
Duke handing over the plastic bags that he brought to Rachel, he rushed to Glenn in an attempt to help her get on her feet. She was feeling some pains as she had bruised her arm and left leg.
” It’s okay little princess, do not cry anymore I am here”, Duke let out those words of consolation to her, while caressing her hair with his right hand and holding her with the left.
Leaving them to get inside to get the first aid box, Rachel went closer to Duke to have a look at her sister’s arm and leg. Walking to the bench where he met them sitting, he sat down laying Glenn on his lass and telling her not to cry anymore. His caresses on her hair made Glenn slowly reduce her lament and reach out with the box, Bethany came back holding it in his hands. Telling Glenn not to cry as it was going to pain a little, she began jerking in Duke’s arms as she could already glimpse Bethany taking out the cleaning chemicals.
“It will hurt her Betty, please don’t do it”, Rachel spoke out in a worried tone feeling for her sister but Bethany with a concerned look told her that she needed to do it to avoid bacterial from getting to her.
Looking at the situation, Duke proposed that, she should apply the cleaning substance on the cotton, and he will be the one to clean her bruises. Turning her gaze on Glenn, he told her not to worry as he was not going to hurt her not even one bit and Glenn nodded to his words she held him tighter than she had done.
Doing just at Duke had asked her to do, Bethany applied the alcohol ok the cotton and handed it over to Duke who was holding Glenn with his left hand, he slowly used his right hand to pass through the cotton on her abrasions, making an effort not to press it too much as his mouth could be seen blowing on it.
Rachel and Bethany being shocked by what was happening, looked at each other not being able to believe their eyes as Glen did not seem to feel the pain not to cry. It was as though Duke was having some magical powers on her or something.
Bethany could not help but think to herself how he was so nice to Glenn, she imagined him as a father and she was certain that anyone who could see them together, will image the same too. They had this connection that was indescribable right from the very first day.
Glenn had liked Duke just from catching sight of him and that was something that she normally does not do. Her affection towards him whenever she is with him makes Bethany ask herself whether he was as bad as she thought or whether it was just because she detested rich people especially the men.
Duke was done with what he was doing, and giving her the cotton and asking for a poultice to cover up the wound, she served for it inside the box, bringing it out as she cut it with the pair of clean scissors that was inside.
Helping him to cover it up with a small piece of cotton before putting the dressing, Bethany was done with it and Rachel touched her little sister, asked how she was feeling and Glenn said that it was not hurting too much as Duke was there with her.
Veering around her gaze to him, Rachel appreciated him for helping her sister out and letting out a smile, Duke said teasing her,
” I might just as well adopt her as my daughter what do you think?”.
Rachel and Bethany laughed out so hard while she rose to her feet and walked back into the house to keep the box.
When she returned, her eyes slowly met with he’s and he spoke up,
“You look beautiful”.
The redness on Bethany’s cheek could be observed from some distance away and trying to hide it, Duke told her not to as he did not want to stop admiring her. Rachel who was eager to see what was in the plastic opened it up and caught a glimpse of some yogurt and cakes, she spoke out from behind thanking him for bringing that.
” You do not have to thank me little one, that is for you, Bryan, and Glenn”, he explained. Bethany feeling hurt and left out, bit her finger, and looking at she raised a question,
“I can see that I am not on the list huh?”.
In happiness, Rachel asked again whether all hose plastics were for them and Duke nodding his head with a smile on his face said everything was for them. Rachel excused herself as she went into the house to show Bryan what he had brought.
Glenn, holding Dule tight and saying to his ear that she wanted to have some ice cream, made Bethany taught out and telling him that she has been saying so for some time now, he asked her what kind of flavors did she want and little Glenn explained using her hands to say what she desired.
Bethany who could not stop laughing out as she looked at them both, told Duke that fatherhood will be good on him as someone might think that Glenn is his daughter and haven’t finished her statement, Glenn asked,
” Will you marry my Auntie Bethany, so that we can live together and Eva will get married to the other uncle making me have two fathers and two mothers”?
Her question left Bethany shocked as she cleared her throat and said,
“Glenn darling, it is too early to talk about that now okay, besides, uncle Duke and I are just friends”.
