He thought back to the fact that he had told his mother about a lady that he likes and wants to be with, without even asking for her concern first. Hoping to meet with Bethany soon, Duke fell asleep without knowing out of exhaustion.
Taking a nap in her room with her friend, she could give attention to the sound of someone crying in the room. Being confused as to what was happening, she raised her head and looked all around but could see neither Rachel nor Glenn inside the room.
Suspecting that it could be her friend, she stretched her hand towards her at the other end of the bed. Turning to Eva, she noticed that, her pillow had been soaked with tears and she was already having a hilltop. Wondering what the matter may be, she asked her friend why she was crying and touching her forehead, Eva was burning with fever.
“Get up and sit down on the bed Eva and stop crying please”, Bethany spoke out as she stood up from the bed and helped her friend to sit better, supporting her back with a pillow as she wished to lean.
Her hands were used as handkerchiefs to clean her friend’s eyes and sitting closer to her she said,
” I may not know why you are crying Eva dear but you know you can talk to me about everything you are facing now”.
In her mind, she felt for her friend as she thought that her tears were a result of the fact that she had no place to stay with her sister’s order other than living with her and her family but that was not a problem for her.
Telling her friend not to worry as she is there for her, she continued wiping her eyes begging her to stop or else her sisters may walk in and find her in that mood which will not be nice. Eva with a deep voice cracking each time she opened her mouth to talk, made Bethany tell her to wait so that she could go get a glass of water for her.
Eva tried to stop her friend from going but it was too late as she had already stood on her feet and made her way through the door to the kitchen. Lowering her gaze alone in the room she thought about the incident that had happened earlier in the hospital and tears dropping more from her eyes, she held her chest with her hands feeling so hurt at Henry’s reaction.
“Come in the door is not locked”, Henry spoke out as a knock was given attention to on his door. His mother walked into his room and meeting him lying down on his bed she approached him.
Sitting in his bed, she looked at her son and without having to raise a question, she could observe that he was all pale as something was the root cause of that.
” Are you having problems with something or is there anything you will like to talk about with me?”, his mother let out waiting for his response as she looked at him in the eyes.
Denying, he arranged himself properly on the bed, sitting up to face his mom. Letting out a smile, she said,
“I am your mother Henry and yes, we have not had a mother-son conversation for a while now but recall I am still your mother and so I know you very well”.
Henry was aware that he could not hide anything from his mother as she knew him like the back of her palm. Sometimes he even wondered whether she is a soothsayer that could tell every one of his movements and activities without him opening his mouth.
Lost in his thoughts as he looked at his other closely wondering whether to sell her or not, she bombarded him with an unexpected question which changed everything and made him more nervous.
” Is this about a woman?”.
Henry was dumbfounded as at that point he had to either say the truth or run away from the conversation. Moving his body as he was thinking of stepping down from his bed, his mother voiced out laughing,
“Do not even think about it young man, you will, answer my question here and now”. Henry was glued and there was no escape for him any longer. Letting out a huge sigh, he closed his eyes and chewing his teeth he responded,
” Mommy you are right, I have been seeing someone but I was just waiting for the tight time to inform you about her”.
“I knew it had to do with a lady”, she amplified her laughter asking him to tell her more. Feeling concerned for his mother, he let out,
” Mother you are not well and you need to take some rest now, we can talk later”.
Letting about a frown, his mother asked him whether she did not look okay to him or whether he just wanted to get her angry. Denying to save his life, he told her that he was just being concerned.
“I have been taken proper care of and my nurse is an excellent one. Besides, it was an accident that I had and not a deadly disease”, Muttering as she gave her son and disgusting stare as she could tell that he was dodging her questions.
Nipping his lips, he had bi other option but to narrate the story completely as his mother was an eager listener.
” Take this and drink all of it”, Bethany was back with the glass of water and handing it over to Eva, she ensured that she drinks even half of it so that it could calm her down.
Taking the glass, she drank it up feeling as it was going down her throat to her stomach and it felt good. Bethany had learned from her mother that when someone is crying, water is always good for them as it will instantly stop them from crying further.
“Are you feeling better now?”, she asked Eva who seemed to have Frank enough and was giving over the glass to her. Nodding positively to her question, she thanked Bethany for being there for her.
” You do not have to thank me Eva as you are my friend and if the tables were turned, you will do the same for me as well”, she confessed wiping the remaining tears that were still hanging on Eva’s cheek.
Climbing on the bed to sit by her friend, she arranged the blanket so that it will be covering her legs too and she placed her friend’s neds head on her shoulder, asking her what the problem is and why she was crying so much. Not being able to hold onto the pain anymore she voices out.
“Henry is the problem”.
Having a confused look, she asked her friend how Henry was the issue when he has been nothing but sweet to her all these days but Eva going silent again, remembered everything that she had given attention to today at the sanitarium.
” I could feel it that you were up to something these past few days, as you had changer drastically, keeping late night, disappearing without saying where you were going to and to top the list, you barely even had time to eat or sleep in your own house”, his mother described his whole activities and Henry looking at her like some detective asked if she ever does something else but look at his schedule.
Letting out a smile she still reminded him that she is his mother and yes, she knows him so well as she raised him. Passing his hands through his strand and bringing them back to his face, he uttered slowly with a sad look as he walked to the couch that was opposite his bed, taking a cushion into his arms and looked at his mom in the eyes saying,
” She thinks I do not love her enough momma and it is my fault because I messed up”. His heartbeat a million times just thinking at the look that Eva had given to him after he had hung up the calla and turned to talk with her.
She had looked at him like some piece of junk that had no value again. His mother extending her hands to his face as she touched his cheeks asking him what had happened for her to think or say such a thing, took yo his head and ask,
“Did you cheat on her?”.
” No mom I can not bring myself to do something like that to her as I live here with all of my heart”, he replied with sincerity in his eyes. Feeling the words in his mouth and noticing how hard they are to come out, he, however, decided to say them still.
“She is a simple girl with good morals and just to tell you this mom, she is not of our social class”. His words came out and they were as gentle as running water, that could mend the brokenness of the soul.
His mother’s countenance changed to something he was expecting but let out a smile she told him to bring the girl home so that, she could catch a glimpse of her personality before making any conclusions.
Surprised by his mother’s reaction, he gave her a long stare wondering why she did not react negatively as she always had the habit of doing so not being able to hold his curiosity, Henry inquired why the sudden change of heart and she responded,
” Lying down in that hospital bed, I realized that life was nothing and the barriers that we humans create for each other, are our greatest enemy of all times. My son, whomsoever you procure to me as the one you have chosen, so long as she makes you happy, I will accept her”.
Henry could not believe his ears and the joy that was in his heart was unexplainable. Hiding his affair with Eva was a very difficult situation for him as he could tell that she loves him just from their first encounter.
However, he had a problem with the fact that his mother inky wanted him to date girls from the same level with him which he had a search for but had not found any that had that special time with him. Eva however has everything Henry was looking for in a woman which entails, intelligence, love for one another, beauty, compassion, and above all she is a playful type.
Entreating in his heart that his mother will not be as hard as she had always been, he had made up his mind to chose Eva if the worst had to happen though he had never wished to be in disagreement with his mother as she is the only family that he has left.
Rising from his seat and taking his mother tight in his arms, he appreciated her a lot for reconsidering her decision and for letting him know that he could choose for himself.
“Go and get her back before it is a too late son and I can see that she makes you happy “, his mother said letting out a big smile.
” Thank you momma”, he mumbled. His mother telling him to have some rest, she told him that she will be downstairs as she was expecting a friend that had just flown into the country after so many tears of stating abroad. Telling his mother to go prepare to receive her visitor, he kissed her on the cheek and told her to be careful.
Henry’s heart was filled with joy and he could not wait to meet Eva again to tell her about his undying love for her as he was left alone in his room.
Planning on taking her to a romantic dinner date, Henry could listen to his phone ringing on the table that was on the other side of the bed.
