Chapter 12 Things Just Got Real

Book:Now You See Me Published:2024-5-1

“He did what!!” Jess screeched into the phone.
I winced and held the phone away from my ear and made sure know one was coming down the hall hearing the fuss Jess was making.
“Shhhh Jess don’t be so loud you nearly broke my eardrum.”
“I can’t help it, that is hot. At a park too, you slut. I’m so proud of you. You guys have got to be a couple now right?” She asked.
“Ya, I guess we are.” I said blushing thank god she wasn’t there to see me.
“Alright, well I’ll be there in five and we can walk together so you can go see your new man candy.” I could almost see her smirk over the phone.
I was about to agree when I glanced outside my room and there was Logan pulling up. We hadn’t made any plans for him to pick me up but yet here he was. I was beginning to think he was always going to be unpredictable. I don’t like unpredictable.
“Actually Jess it looks like the man candy took it upon himself to pick me up this morning.” I told her shaking my head.
“Ahhh he’s so sweet, well I’ll let you get some of that and I”ll see you at school bitch, love ya.”
I smiled on the phone. “Love ya too.”
I hung up and grabbed all my books quickly and ran down the stairs before Logan could start knocking at the door. I wasn’t quite ready for the meet the parent scenario so I wanted to get out of there before that could happen, I bolted out the door.
“Honey I made you breakfast!” Mom called behind me.
“That’s ok mom, not really hungry today I’ll see you after school!” I called back.
The door slammed behind me and I turned to see none other then both Logan and my father staring at me like an alien. My dad evidently was tinkering in his car before work.
“Alicia don’t slam the door like that you know your mother hates that.” He said adding. “A little eager to get out the door today sweetie.”
Logan smirked and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“No dad, just don’t know my own strength.” I gave a slight shrug walking over to them.
“Oh well then, are you going to introduce me to your friend?”
“Sure.” I reluctantly began. “Dad this is Logan a friend from school, Logan this is my dad.”
I noticed Logan’s face fall a little by what I had said. He quickly recovered and held his hand out.
“Nice to meet you sir.” Logan shook his hand politely.
My dad shook his hand back with a slight smile. “Nice to meet you too Logan, how long have you two known each other?”
I rolled my eyes, here we go.
“Ah well we have apparently been going to school together for quite sometime, but we must have just missed each other.” He seemed a little nervous with that question.
“Wow! It’s a pretty small town, how is that even possible?” My dad pressed.
“I don’t know, I guess we just hung around different crowds.” Logan smiled.
“Ok dad, I’ll see you later, Logan and I have to get going.” I grabbed Logan’s arm and forcefully turned him toward his car.
“Ok, bye sir, nice to meet you.” Logan gave a slight wave while I dragged him away.
“Nice to meet you son. We will talk soon.” Oh man that sounded like a threat. I shook my head.
Once we were in the car I scowled at Logan.
“What!” He said with his hands up.
“You couldn’t ask me if I was ok you showing up here, I nearly had a heart attack.” I said a little harshly.
“I really didn’t think it was that big of a deal, why you don’t want me meeting your parents or something?” He replied a little sad.
“No, it’s not like that, only it seems a little soon, don’t you think?” I tried to recover not wanting to hurt his feelings.
“I’m sorry I just figured it’s a pretty normal thing to want to pick my girlfriend up at her house before school, I will ask you next time.” He said starting the car.
My jaw hit the ground and I sat there shocked at what he said, like it was nothing, like it was perfectly normal.
He smirked seeing me in the corner of his eye. “Close your mouth Princess.”
I quickly turned and faced the front embarrassed and he reached over and grabbed my hand smiling while pulling car out.
We pulled into the schools parking lot and the feeling of panic set in. I can’t get out of Logan’s car, in front of everybody! I almost started to hyperventilate.
“Hey Princess.” Logan turned my head to look at him. “It’s going to be ok.”
“Of course you would think that, you’ve had eyes on you since day one. What are people going to say when they see me coming out of this car with you?” I looked down and my fidgeting hands. “I’m not used to this Logan.”
“Well first of all, I’d hate to say it Princess but you are already in the spotlight since you told off Sarah in the woods that day. Second, people will like you just as much as I like you, you have nothing to hide. We, have nothing to hide.”
I looked back up at him and saw that he was actually being sincere, I couldn’t believe that Logan Saunders was giving me a pep talk right now, like a decent human being. A smile began to form and I felt a little bit stronger.
“Ok, lets go.” I said with as much confidence that I could muster.
We got out of the car and I immediately saw a reaction from the crowd of students, but nothing gained more of a reaction as when Logan came over and grabbed my backpack and my hand and began walking through the parking lot.
I was looking down most of the time stealing a few peeks here in there to see if everyone was still gawking at us, of course they were. We finally made it to my locker unscathed and I let out a silent breath.
“There that wasn’t so bad was it?” Logan asked “Now imagine what they say when I lean over and start making out with you..” He began to dramatically lean over to start doing what I think he was going to do.
“Don’t you even dare! I think your friends are waiting for you.” I said with a scowl.
He laughed. “There’s that beautiful angry face.” He started to walk away but not before landing a peck on my cheek the bugger. Of course the two girls that were swooning over us yesterday were there.
I rolled my eyes and carried on with organizing my books.
“Well you decided to ignore my little warning I see.” Sarah came up beside me out of the blue scaring the crap out of me.
“Don’t you have somewhere else to be.” I stated with annoyance.
“Listen I was just trying to save you from some heartache later on. I mean, we have had our differences you and I.” Sarah said with a fake look of compassion on her face.
“The only differences we are having Sarah is I am now involved with you ex and you can’t handle it. If you have a problem with Logan seeing me than take it up with him and let him decide.”
“Alicia, I’m trying to warn you that Logan is complicated. I think deep down he wants to commit to a nice girl like you but he just can’t because of his family situation..” She paused for effect.
I couldn’t help it, I was hooked. I’ve been curious about why Logan had freaked out about his family at the Bistro and now here Sarah is playing the one card that would get my attention.
“What family situation?” I asked and a sly smile came on her lips.
“I really can’t say, he told me in confidence, we are really close and Logan doesn’t tell anyone about this, but I can tell you that it has rendered him completely closed off when it comes to love, its tragically what happened to us.” She placed her hand on my shoulder pretending to be sincere. “See ya.”
I gotta say I didn’t think that this was the tactic that Sarah was going to take with me. I thought for sure she would just continue to insult me, or thrown food on me, you know regular bully stuff. But here she was bringing up the one topic that has had me curious and worried all night. Worst of all, she is revealing that she in fact knows, that he trusted her enough to tell her.
It shouldn’t bother me because they did date for quite awhile (if you wanna call that dating), and I’ve been only seeing Logan for less then a week. He will tell me when he is ready, besides, how bad can it be.
