I walked upstairs and knocked on Cheney’s office door.
Milo isn’t in the room. Gia’s the only one at the office.
Gia pulled down her face when she saw me.
I didn’t want to cause a conflict, so I ignored her and walked directly to Cheney’s office.
She said lukewarm, “Mrs. Fischer, the president is busy at the moment. If you want to see him, please wait a moment. I’ll go in and inform you.”
“No, he asked me over.”
“Sorry, as the secretary of the president, I didn’t receive the telephone notice of your direct release.”
I turned around and walked up to her table, where I looked down at her seated in her chair. “I don’t know if you don’t mention it. Miss Gia turns out to be a good person. So, Miss Gia, who is so well-behaved, may I ask you whether you sit poorly and greet Cheney’s guests with a cold face when they come to visit? Is it in line with the company’s policies?”
She smirked. “I’m not here to sell laughter, I’m the president’s secretary.”
“Really? In Cheney’s place, I hope this tale makes sense.”
She hurriedly stood up, even though she was green. “Can you tell me where my attitude is bad?”
I pointed to the corner monitoring system. “If you’re not sure, go to the monitoring room right now and check your performance. This is the company. I hope your personal feelings do not have an impact on the company’s reputation. As the president’s wife, I give you this command.”
“Mrs. Fischer, why are you hunting me?” She said.
“Did you actually think it’s me against you, not you vs. me?” I smiled and shrugged. “I’m already Cheney’s wife. What do you think I have to complain about his little secretary?”
As I pointed in the direction of the office, I said, “This is a company. If you claim you wish to follow the rules, I’ll follow them as well. What exactly are you staring at now? Why don’t you come in and make a report? How much longer are you going to make me wait?”
She walked angrily to the office door, knocked, and stepped in.
Gia’s pov
When I came to Cheney’s desk, I said, “Senior, Miss Krista is here.”
“Where is she? Why did you come in?”
“Let me inform you that it is inconvenient for you to see her.”
“Didn’t she tell you that I asked her out?”
I was upset and said, “I am a secretary. When visitors come, I come in to report. It is my duty.”
He said with a cold face, “Gia, don’t be too melodramatic, she is my wife.”
I looked up and said seriously, “It’s working time. In my eyes, she is just a visitor.”
“Then you should go to the ophthalmology department again to have a look at your eyes.” he dropped his pen. “You go to the next notice. After that, no one is allowed to stop Mrs. Fischer from coming to the company.”
I shook my fist and turned out.
Looking at Krista at the door, he said lukewarm, “Mrs. Fischer, please come in.”
There is a bit of provocation in her eyes. “I have worked hard for you, Miss Gia.” After saying that, she held her head high into the office.
Krista’s pov
Cheney said that Gia’s ability to work is excellent, but Gia does not appear to be as transparent as Cheney says.
Is it possible that blind unrequited love has an impact on IQ?
I walked inside his office. “It is really tough to meet you at work. I still have to report at different levels. If I didn’t already know, I was thinking about how many beautiful women you had in your harem. When she comes to see you, even the only wife might be blocked at the door.”
He smiled and hooked his lips. “Gia, as I have said, is melodramatic. Now I’ve asked her to give a notice. In the future, you will be able to move freely throughout the Fischer group. Don’t be worried. Wait five minutes for me, and I’ll finish right away.”
I sat on the sofa waiting for him. I really have nothing to do. I took out my mobile phone and planned to watch the news for a while, but before I opened the webpage, my mother’s number came in.
I don’t want to talk to her, I just hang up.
But she is adamant and keeps playing.
The vibration of the mobile phone alarmed Cheney. He raised his eyebrows at me. “Why didn’t you answer it?”
I thought about it, went to the window to pick up my mobile phone, and said coldly, “Is there anything else you want me to do?”
“Krista, mom is sick. Are you able to see mom at home?”
“Sick?” I became worried and unconsciously increased the volume by several decibels. “What disease are you talking about?”
“My heart isn’t in fine condition.” she said, sighing. “You don’t know, I’m all sick at our age. Now I’m quite worried. If I suddenly leave and leave you alone one day.”
I frowned and said, “Stop talking nonsense. What did the diagnostic certificate say after the doctor examined it?”
She paused for a moment and then said, “I didn’t go to the hospital.”
“Didn’t go?”
“Yes.” She stopped for a while before spitting out, “I’m not talking nonsense, Krista. I’m really worried that when I leave, I’ll leave you alone. You don’t want to hear these hurtful words. Does that show that you still have feelings for your mother? Did you really mean it when you said you wanted to leave your mother behind?”
I clenched my mobile phone. “My words are sincere.”
“Krista, mom knows you, you are a kind child.”
“So, please don’t take advantage of my kindness, because that will lead me to lose my humanity, push me into the depths of evil, and make me realize how awful it is to be your daughter.”
Saying so, I immediately hang up the phone, a look of anger is on my face.
Cheney gave me a quick look before quietly closing the file and getting up. “Come on, I’m hungry.”
I took a deep breath, put my phone into my pocket, and stood up.
As he passed by me, he took my hand in his.
We went to the restaurant and ordered food.
He drew his chopsticks down and hooked his lips. “Did your mother call you again today, making any unreasonable demands?”
I shook my head. “She said she was ill. Let me go back and see her.”
“You’re mad about that?”
I pressed my temple. “I’m angry because she lied to me.”
“What did she lie to?”
“She’s not sick at all.”
He raised his eyebrows. “How can you be so sure?”
“I was just asking my mum how the diagnostic went in the hospital. My mother stated that she did not visit a doctor and instead stayed at home. Brent, as you may know, is a person who enjoys playing a role. If my mother was truly sick, he would have put on a show for the media in order to portray himself as a model husband. My mother will then be in the hospital, rather than at home.”
He stirred up his mouth. “You can be Holmes.”
“I made reasonable assumptions since I am fully aware of the Brennan family’s hypocrisy, and my mother has always been in good health. I took her to a general examination a few months ago, and she is in good health.”
He smiled and nodded “Your mother is a strong woman. What can she do at this point if she convince you to come home? Maybe you’ll be able to forgive her when you go home?”
I was eating and thought to myself that, yes, my mother would not typically call me home at this time. After all, everyone is angry and has to be patient with each other.
I’m not sure what she’s thinking.
Cheney drove me back to the construction site after lunch.
When I got into the RV, I was about to change clothes when my cell phone rang again.
This time, it’s Zaniyah.
I don’t want to talk to her either, so I hang up.
Instead of being as adamant as her mother, she just sent me a short video.
When I clicked on the video, my face tightened and my expression became angry. I called Zaniyah’s number back.
Zaniyah’s triumphant voice rang out from her ear when the phone was quickly connected. “It’s really difficult to get in touch with you, my lovely sister, isn’t it?
“What the heck are you doing, Zaniyah?” I got angry. “Do you think you’re crazy?”
“Crazy? Maybe.” Zaniyah burst out laughing. “I’m completely insane. Didn’t you make me do it?”
“You let my mother go quickly. Don’t you realize you’re a criminal?”
My mother was tied and hung from an abandoned building in the video by now, as if she could fall at any time.
I was scared when I saw it.
