Chapter 38

Book:Billionaire's Exclusive Wife Published:2024-5-1

Back at the Jade Court, Cheney asked me, “Did you mean it when you say you want to break away from your mother?”
I frowned. Why did he bring up this topic again?
“What is your expression, maybe, you just want to scare her? I hope she will change for you?”
I shook my head. “I didn’t think so.”
Walking to the bed and sitting down, I sighed, “I know my mother can’t go back to six years ago.”
“So, what are you hesitating about?”
Why was he so interested in that topic? I thought.
“Why can’t you say it when you are sober? Do you need a drink?”
Need a drink? It seems that there is nothing wrong with it. After all, some words have been suppressed in my heart, which is very uncomfortable. I happily said, “Okay.”
“What would you like to drink?” He asked.
“I want to drink beer. Can you drink it?”
“Don’t provoke me, just drink yours.”
He called downstairs, and one of the maids brought a beer.
He and I came to the balcony and sat on the floor.
Leaning against the glass door, I looked up at the night sky and drank a few sips of beer. “Cheney, let me ask you a question. If you can answer me truthfully, I will tell you what I think in my heart, Okay?”
When I finished my sentence, I looked back at him and smiled.
He raised his eyebrows. “Ask away.”
“Does the injury on Brent’s face have anything to do with you?”
“How can you tell that it was me?”
I shrugged. “Rashad’s words remind me of you.”
He didn’t speak, but his mouth was smiling.
I asked again, “Was it you?”
“It’s me.”
“Then why do you want to do this? In fact, you have no enmity with him, and he even almost became your real father-in-law.”
He disdains a smile, “But he failed to become my father-in-law in the end, and I just know his wretched behavior.”
“Did you clean him up just because of his behavior, that trying to invade me was too trivial?”
He took a sip of beer and snorted, “Because you are my woman, and my woman was wronged when she lived in the Brennan family. Is it wrong for me to help her relieve her anger?”
Hearing what he said, I was somewhat moved in my heart.
I silently drank two more before saying, “If you didn’t say that, I may never know.”
He raised his eyebrows. “I didn’t mean to let you know because I didn’t do this to show off.”
I clenched the jar and nodded. “Thank you.”
“I told you the truth. Now, can you also tell me what you think in your heart?”
“Me?” I took a sip of beer. “I know my mother has changed, she and I were not like what we are now less than six years ago, but… I’m afraid my dad will blame me.”
“Blame you for what?”
“Blame me for leaving his favorite woman and breaking her favorite woman’s heart,” I said with a wry smile. “You may not know how much my dad loves my mother.”
“Obviously, your mother has forgotten your father and started the second spring of her life.”
I nodded. “Do you think people’s feelings really change?”
He leaned back, too. “Maybe.” He said.
“But why do I think that the feelings that will change are all because their love is not deep enough?”
He looked at me without saying a word.
I closed my eyes, glugged and drank a can of beer, and calmly opened the second can.
“My father really loves my mother, but my mother’s love for my father may not be so deep. If you really love someone, how can you remarry someone else in such a short time because he left the world first?” I asked, looking at him.
“If there is such a man in my life that I can’t extricate myself from love, even if he is far away from me, even between yin and yang, I will never change to the arms of other men. Love… how can it be shared? It can’t be shared. Love, I think, is single-minded.” I added and closed my eyes.
Cheney’s pov
With some softness in my eyes and a warm current in my heart, I looked at her.

Krista seemed to be in a very bad mood. She drank a lot of beer and started to fall down.

Her eyes were blurry after more than half an hour, and she put out her hand and placed her hand on my shoulder. “Don’t sway, pay attention to what I’m saying.”

Nothing came out of my mouth.

“Don’t be like my mother, Cheney, and love someone and be single-minded, you know?”

Her eyes were misty and her cheeks get flushed as she pouted.

I leaned in and kissed her lips before flinging her to the ground.

Because her present appearance is far too appealing.

She pushed hard, “Don’t touch me, go away, you brute, Brent, get out of here, or I’ll kill you.”

I stopped as I heard the words Brent. I had forgotten about her pain. I came to an end, looked down at her, and held her face in my hands.

“Look, Krista, who am I?”

Her tightly closed eyes opened and she looked at me as she turned her head sideways.

“Cheney.”

My hand stroked her cheek softly. “Yes, I’m Cheney, and I’m not going to force you to do anything, so don’t be scared.”

She just looked at me and didn’t say anything.

I turned over, sat beside her, and took a sip from the wine can.

She sat up gently as well, and I handed her the beer she’d just finished. “Do you still want to drink?”

She held the glass in her hand and looked at me guiltily. “Sorry, I was just a little excited.”

“It doesn’t matter. I didn’t know what you had experienced before. I couldn’t understand your mood.

“I just got the feeling that you, as my wife, were resisting me, which irritated me much. Now that I know what you’ve gone through, there’s no need for me to be upset with you over something like this.”

I gave her a sidelong glance. “I can give you some time to conquer your concerns, but just remember that you are married and don’t keep me waiting too long.  I am, after all, a man with desires.”

Her crimson cheeks become even redder. “Good.” She said with a nod.

I lifted the jar and placed my hand on hers.

She gave me a kind smile and took a drink of the beer.
