Chapter 899 Absolutely Impossible

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Jessica’s anger flared up, “Sophia, what’s with your attitude? Don’t pretend to be clueless when you know that Gilbert has been chasing after you for so many years. Do you not have any feelings for him?”
“I’m just saying, during the four years that you were married to that useless Leo, as far as I know, Gilbert didn’t even look for a girlfriend. He remained single and waited for you. That kind of dedication to love is not something everyone can have.”
“Mom, can you stop joking around? Just because he’s single and doesn’t have a girlfriend doesn’t mean he’s waiting for me. He just thinks too highly of himself and there’s no relationship between us!”
Jessica was fuming inside and was about to scold Sophia when Gilbert quickly intervened, “Ahem.., please don’t get angry. I understand Sophia very well right now. She just got divorced from a useless man so it’s normal for her to feel upset. I believe she’ll recover soon enough and I’ll continue waiting until she changes her mind.”
Sophia sneered, “Gilbert, let me advise you to give up on this idea sooner rather than later. Four years ago we weren’t possible together; four years later we’re even less likely!”
“I can tell you clearly that in this lifetime I will only marry once! Now that I’ve gotten divorced once already there won’t be another marriage!”
“Slap!”
Jessica slapped Sophia across the face.
“Sophia! You heartless woman! What are you talking about?”
Sophia held her cheek in disbelief as she looked at Jessica, “Mom, did… did you really hit me?”
“If someone isn’t obedient then they deserve a beating from their mother!” Jessica stood with hands on hips looking furious.
“Maybe we should give Sophia some time to think,” Gilbert suggested deliberately.
“There is no room left for consideration in this matter! Getting married and having children is the most important thing!” Jessica took on the posture of a housewife, “Sophia, forget about Leo who’s nothing but trash; date and marry Gilbert instead because I still want grandchildren!”
Sophia’s expression became poignant as she looked at her mother’s fierce appearance and coldly laughed, “Mom, even if I die, I will never marry Gilbert. If you force me again, you will lose your daughter!”
After speaking, Sophia wiped away her tears and rushed up the stairs before slamming the bedroom door shut.
Jessica was so angry that she almost bit through her teeth. As Sophia’s mother, she knew what kind of person Sophia was. Despite being angry, there was nothing else she could do.
After taking a deep breath or two, Jessica looked at Gilbert with a hint of embarrassment and said, “Gilbert ah, Sophia just got divorced and is feeling a little irritable. Don’t take it to heart. Once her emotions have calmed down in a while I’ll talk to her and make sure she changes her mind about marrying you.”
Gilbert looked towards the direction of the second floor bedroom while thinking about Sophia’s heartbroken expression from earlier. He felt worried as he asked, “You hit Sophia earlier… What if something happens?”
“Tsk! What could happen? The only one who can’t handle things right now is me!” Jessica shrugged nonchalantly before saying, “Let’s eat dinner; don’t worry about her.”
The food was served on the table but Nora hesitated for a moment before whispering to Jessica, “Jessica, should we call Sophia down for dinner or should I bring it up to her instead?”
Jessica had been holding back anger this whole time so when Nora spoke up like that she snapped back fiercely, “Nora! Let me tell you again – our family matters are none of your business! That girl dared give me attitude; let hunger teach her some manners!”
Nora knew that Jessica was just venting her anger, so to avoid further provoking the tiger-like mother, she could only sigh inwardly and eat her meal in silence.
Although Nora’s cooking was delicious, Gilbert found it tasteless.
Sophia’s words from earlier kept echoing in his mind.
In reality, Gilbert was well aware that Sophia had no feelings for him whatsoever.
The reason he came here today, apart from hoping that Jessica could arrange their marriage, was to test Sophia’s attitude towards him, especially Sophia’s words that she would rather die than marry him, which deeply hurt Gilbert’s heart.
It also made Gilbert understand one thing: he had no presence at all in Sophia’s heart.
Since the day he had been deeply taught a lesson by Leo, Gilbert had basically given up his infatuation with Sophia. Coming here today was just trying his luck.
After casually eating some food, Gilbert stood up and bid farewell to Jessica.
Jessica walked Gilbert to the gate of the villa and said with confidence, “Gilbert, as long as you put in enough effort, even an iron rod can be ground into a needle. You’ve made it through countless difficulties. Don’t be discouraged. I’ll work on Sophia’s thoughts, and when she realizes it, I’ll give you a call.”
“You’re really kind. Thank you for your efforts,” Gilbert lowered his posture and said repeatedly.
In the bedroom, Sophia held her phone in her right hand, lost in thought.
The phone screen displayed the contacts list, and Leo’s name was already selected.
At this moment, Sophia really wanted to call Leo and tell him about her grievances and sadness.
But when she thought of the photos of Leo with those women, Sophia couldn’t bring herself to press the call button.
In the end, Sophia couldn’t forgive Leo for his betrayal. She threw her phone aside and cried bitterly with her head buried in her hands…

In the afternoon, Angus arrived at the clinic.
In addition to giving Leo his consultation fee, he also warmly invited Leo to attend a banquet.
With his busy day, Leo also wanted to relax a bit, so he got into Angus’s car.
On the way, Angus, with his shrewd business mind, only engaged in casual conversation with Leo to increase their mutual understanding, avoiding any questions about personal privacy.
After about an hour, the car arrived at a place surrounded by greenery.
The roadsides were lined with maple trees, lush and mature. The streets were quiet, with few pedestrians, lacking the hustle and bustle of a big city.
Leo didn’t ask where Angus was taking him, as he was just a guest and could simply enjoy life.
After the car turned a corner, the view suddenly opened up, and the scene before Leo’s eyes surprised him.
There was a green lawn, about the size of three football fields, in the center of which was a parked airplane.
Yes, it was one of those large passenger planes.
