During Levi and Baldwin’s conversation earlier, Harry overheard it. Besides knowing Leo’s exceptional medical skills, he had little knowledge of Leo’s other qualities, which took him by surprise.
“Mr. Meredith, it’s a shame that Dr. Bloomer left,” Harry sighed. He could understand Leo’s decision; if he were in Leo’s shoes and constantly faced hostility and mistreatment, he might have left as well.
The chubby Thomas sneered, “If he wants to leave, let him. Good riddance. At least, he won’t be a nuisance around here.”
Leo’s departure and Harry’s somber mood made Thomas even more pleased. He believed that once Ryan cured Marina’s illness, the ten-billion-dollar contract would undoubtedly be his.
After a while, the butler returned with a bundle of items. He placed them in front of Ryan and politely asked, “Dr. Burns, these are the items you requested. Please verify if they are correct.”
As soon as the butler finished speaking, the others in the room couldn’t help but smile.
It was only then that the butler realized that Ryan was visually impaired.
Ryan extended his hand to touch the items, then brought them to his nose for a quick sniff. After a subtle nod, he turned his head in Marina’s direction and asked, “Miss Meredith, do you have a housemaid or a female companion?”
Marina nodded and replied, “Yes. Butler, please fetch Sandra.”
The butler acknowledged and left. He returned shortly with a young woman in her twenties named Sandra, Marina’s personal maid of nearly a decade.
Marina briefly introduced Sandra to Ryan, and he instructed her, “Miss Sandra, Miss Meredith’s health is delicate, and I’m visually impaired. I cannot touch her. Afterward, I’ll guide you to specific acupoints, and you’ll apply the same fire moxibustion therapy on Miss Meredith as I do.”
“Remember, after the treatment, the skin should turn slightly reddish. Ensure you maintain a safe distance to avoid any burning to Miss Meredith.”
“Dr. Burns, I understand,” Sandra nodded. Her confidence stemmed from the years she had spent caring for Marina without making any significant errors.
Ryan took out all the herbs from the bag and arranged them on the coffee table. Then, using his sense of touch, he skillfully prepared the herbs into cylindrical forms, about the width of a finger.
After the herb cylinders were prepared, Ryan reached for a small porcelain bottle and applied three drops of a secret liquid onto one of the cylinders.
The pale yellow liquid quickly soaked into the cylinder, releasing a peculiar scent. Following this, Ryan inserted the treated herb cylinder into a cylindrical moxibustion holder and left the tip exposed. He used a matchstick to light it, just like lighting a cigar.
Once the tip of the herb cylinder was lit, Ryan handed it to Sandra. He reiterated that the distance between the cylinder and Marina should be maintained at about three centimeters, not too close or too far.
Sandra expressed her understanding.
Although Ryan was visually impaired, his movements were precise and fluent, demonstrating a level of skill and experience that made it hard to believe he was blind.
Once all the preparations were complete, Marina emerged from her room dressed appropriately. Fire acupuncture therapy was typically performed without clothing, but since Marina was a woman, she had to wear a backless yoga outfit chosen by Ryan.
At this moment, Marina wore a white backless top, revealing her fair midriff and back. She paired it with tight shorts, showcasing her long and slender legs.
Marina’s attire made Thomas, who sat on the side, feel his heart race. However, he concealed any inappropriate thoughts as he dared not display any lecherous behavior.
Ryan signaled for Marina to sit across from Sandra. He then took Sandra’s hand and used Sandra’s own hand to press on her Yu Tang acupoint.
Sandra quickly applied fire acupuncture on Marina’s Yu Tang acupoint, maintaining a distance of about three inches.
As the fire acupuncture’s heat treatment progressed, Marina felt a warm sensation spreading rapidly from her chest to other parts of her body, turning into a comfortable feeling.
After three minutes of fire acupuncture on the Yu Tang acupoint, Ryan pressed on the acupoints on Sandra’s arms and back.
Sandra memorized the positions of these acupoints and used her fire acupuncture to treat Marina’s corresponding acupoints.
Following Ryan’s instructions, each acupoint received three minutes of fire acupuncture.
During Sandra’s treatment, Baldwin asked with concern, “Marina, how are you feeling now?”
Marina gave her brother a sweet smile and replied, “I feel warm and comfortable.”
Ryan confidently stated, “Mr. Meredith, you don’t need to worry. With my fire acupuncture technique, coupled with the use of the Five Poisons Medicinal Elixir, Miss Meredith’s illness will surely be completely cured.”
Thomas took the opportunity to praise, “Dr. Burns, your skill is truly exceptional.”
With Marina’s significant improvement in her physical and mental state, Baldwin’s heart was put at ease. He eagerly anticipated his sister’s complete recovery.
Harry sat gloomily on the couch, realizing he had no role in this collaboration.
After about half an hour, the fire acupuncture treatment concluded. Now, when Marina’s skin was exposed, it was no longer pale but displayed a healthy rosy glow. Her once-pale face was now blushing, resembling a red apple, as the saying goes.
Not only that, Marina’s overall vitality had improved significantly. Witnessing such a drastic change in her complexion, Baldwin praised Ryan, “Dr. Burns, your medical expertise surpasses all the doctors I’ve ever met.”
After complimenting Ryan, Baldwin eagerly asked Marina, “Marina, do you notice any difference in your body now?”
“Brother, not only do I feel lighter, but I also have more energy than before,” Marina replied with a smile, showing signs of excitement.
Marina’s brother was somewhat concerned about her skin’s unusual redness, just like her prior pallor. He asked Ryan, “Dr. Burns, how long will the redness on my sister’s skin last?”
Ryan smiled and assured him, “Don’t worry; this redness is a normal post-fire acupuncture phenomenon. It will disappear within the next ten minutes.”
Indeed, as Ryan had said, ten minutes later, the redness on Marina’s skin had vanished. However, on her arms and back, around the acupoints treated with fire acupuncture, circular red marks had appeared. These red marks showed no signs of fading.
