Chapter 484: Chasing Away

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Nora didn’t have much to pack. After a simple collection of her belongings, she dragged her injured body out of the villa.
Nora’s departure finally eased Paige and Ethan’s hearts.
“Fresh air seems to fill the living room now that this lousy maid is gone,” Ethan said with satisfaction. He returned to the sofa, took out his phone, and resumed playing the game.
Jessica was also relieved. She knew that if Nora wasn’t sent away, Leo would go berserk upon seeing her injuries.
Martin remained silent, seemingly detached from everything happening around him.
“Jessica, look at Ethan now. He only plays games and doesn’t do anything else. You need to pay attention to his job,” Alex brought up his son’s job again.
Paige chimed in, “Jessica, we’re all family. Since Sophia’s company is so big, you and Sophia should discuss finding an easy, well-paying job for Ethan.”
Jessica half-heartedly responded, “Dr. Davy’t worry, you two. I’ll talk to Sophia about it when she returns.”
Getting a confirmation from Jessica, Paige looked satisfied, lying back on the sofa. She muttered to herself, “After Ethan starts working at Sophia’s company, I’ll take care of the house here. Then, our family can live happily together. What a beautiful life.”

Golden Leaf Shopping Plaza, the underground parking lot.
Leo had parked the car and waited for Sophia to come down. As usual, after a five-minute wait, Sophia opened the car door and got in.
Leo noticed that Sophia’s mood seemed much better today than it had been yesterday.
Leo started the car and drove in the direction of the parking lot exit. After driving for a while, Sophia couldn’t help but speak up, “Leo, something happened at the company today.”
“What happened?” Leo’s expression tensed, thinking that the hostile takeover of the company’s shares had escalated.
Sophia had an idea of what was on Leo’s mind and reassured him, “It’s not about the shares. It’s about the Go Association, causing a scene at the company.”
“This…” Leo was puzzled. Had the Go Association members gone crazy?
Sophia proceeded to explain in detail what had happened earlier in the day when Solomon Zacharias and Porter Croft, along with others, created a commotion at the company.
After listening to Sophia’s account, Leo’s face darkened. He scolded them with a murderous tone, “These shameless old folks! I’ll make them regret this!”
“I agreed to that challenge from a certain Master Spencer on your behalf. You won’t be mad at me, will you?”
Leo looked at Sophia affectionately and said, “Why would I be mad at you? In fact, I’m glad you trust me so much.”
“Then let’s go and give those old folks a lesson they won’t forget. I know my man is the best!”
Upon returning home, an unusual sight awaited them. Jessica came forward, warmly welcoming Sophia, “Sweetie, you’ve worked all day, isn’t it exhausting?”
Sophia was taken aback by her mother’s unexpected behavior and asked, “Mom, are you short of money for your poker card game?”
Jessica playfully scolded, “Hey, you girl, watch your words! Can’t a mother show some concern for her daughter?”
Sophia chuckled and teased, “Your sudden display of concern is surprising, and it makes me feel a bit pampered.”
Glancing at the sofa in the living room, Sophia noticed her uncle’s family and her father present, but Nora was missing.
Sophia thought Nora might be in the kitchen, so she casually asked, “Mom, is Nora cooking?”
“Sweetie, you’ve had a long day at work, so you should rest when you come home. How about spending time with your fourth uncle and aunt?” Jessica shifted the topic.
Leo, noticing Jessica’s unusual enthusiasm, sensed that something had happened at home.
Leo went straight to the kitchen but found no sign of Nora. He checked the balcony and guest rooms, but still, there was no sign of her.
“Mom, where is Nora?” Leo approached Jessica, his voice stern.
Jessica had expected Leo to ask her, so she pretended to be angry and lashed out, “Leo, you just got home, and instead of saying hello to your fourth uncle and aunt, you’re inquiring about a maid. How rude!”
“Mom, I’ll ask you one more time, where is Nora?”
From Jessica’s exaggerated and hostile behavior, Leo became even more convinced that something had happened to Nora.
Jessica rolled her eyes and replied, “I Dr. Davy’t know! She’s a grown woman with hands and feet; who knows where she’s gone!”
Sophia sensed something amiss now and asked, puzzled, “Mom, Leo was just asking. Why are you getting so worked up?”
“Dr. Davy’t make things up; I’m not worked up!” Jessica struggled to control her facial expressions. “It’s Leo who’s out of line, just returning home and questioning me about that maid’s whereabouts. I’m not responsible for her. It’s ridiculous!”
Leo’s gaze fell onto a broom on the ground, and his tone turned cold, “What did you do to Nora?”
Jessica put her hands on her hips and angrily shouted, “Leo, what’s wrong with you? That lowly maid, why should we care about her?”
“Jessica, I think your son-in-law has some problems with his brain. A maid goes missing, and he questions you, which is simply absurd,” Paige chimed in, her tone strangely supportive.
Ethan, playing Honor of Kings, sneered, “Mom, in my opinion, Leo is just deliberately showing us a bad attitude. He doesn’t want us here, and he doesn’t want us to visit Aunt Jessica.”
Ethan’s words struck right at Jessica’s most vulnerable spot.
Jessica had invited Alex’s family over to showcase her residence at Cloud Dream Mountain Villa and to assert her status as a mistress of this family.
Now, Leo dared to show a bad attitude in front of her, making it hard for Jessica to keep her dignity.
Jessica’s fear of Leo immediately vanished without a trace. She pointed at him and demanded, “Leo, have you lost your mind? Shouting at me as soon as you return home-what do you mean by that?”
Leo picked up the broom from the ground and sneered, “Nora always puts the cleaning tools back in the utility room after she’s Dr. Davye cleaning. But now, this broom is randomly thrown on the floor, and Nora is nowhere to be found. What do you make of that?”
Seeing the physical evidence in Leo’s hands, Jessica felt somewhat uneasy, but she would never admit that she had driven Nora away. She said, “How should I know what’s going on? This maid you hired, she’s so slow and sloppy, she might have left this broom lying around.”
