“Coming,” Nora said nervously, clutching a broom as she approached Ethan.
Maybe it was because of the frustration of losing at the game, but Ethan suddenly sprang to his feet from the couch, as if he were injected with a dose of adrenaline, and shouted, “You’re as slow as a snail, just looking at you irritates me!”
After his outburst, Ethan charged toward Nora and tried to kick her.
Instinctively, Nora dodged the attack.
Ethan, who had probably been deprived of physical activity for too long, not only missed his target when Nora dodged his kick but also ended up falling to the ground.
This infuriated Ethan even more. He scrambled to his feet and roared, “You dare to dodge me! Watch me beat you to death!”
Without a second thought, Ethan grabbed the broom from Nora and started swinging it at her.
Paige, Ethan’s mother, made no attempt to stop the violence. In fact, she cheered him on, saying, “Well Dr. Davye! People like her, who have no self-awareness, should be taught a lesson to make her learn!”
Jessica, who was watching the scene coldly, felt a sense of satisfaction. In fact, she wished Ethan would beat the woman to death. If it weren’t for Nora, she wouldn’t have been threatened by Leo, that loser, the other day.
Nora, who had become accustomed to accepting mistreatment, didn’t dare to resist. She tried to dodge while pleading, “Dr. Davy’t hit me, please, I’ll clean up…”
Ethan’s rage was fueled by the anger he couldn’t vent after being beaten by Leo the day before. This fury had twisted his mind and made him vent his anger on the most vulnerable person in the house.
Despite Nora’s pleas, Ethan showed no mercy. He kept hitting her harder and harder until Nora was covered in bruises. Her attempts to evade the blows grew weaker, and she eventually lay motionless on the ground.
Seeing that Ethan had no intention of stopping, Alex urgently called out, “Ethan, stop it, you’re going to kill her!”
Realizing that her son had lost his rationality, Alex quickly stepped forward to pull him away.
Ethan finally ceased his assault, spat on Nora, and said, “This trash, even if she’s beaten to death, she’s just trash.”
Paige, too, understood that the situation had become dire. If Nora were to die from this beating, Ethan would face serious consequences. It would not be a matter of serving time in jail; it could lead to the death penalty.
“Ethan, that’s enough!” Paige quickly reached out to pull him away.
Jessica, who had been suffering until now, whispered to herself, “This is bad.”
If Leo were to return and see Nora in this condition, there was a high chance he would resort to violence. After all, the last time she wrongly accused Nora, it resulted in Martin slapping her, and Leo had gone berserk. Today’s situation was much worse.
The damage was Dr. Davye. Now, what could be Dr. Davye to salvage this situation?
Worried, Jessica couldn’t help but reprimand Ethan, “Ethan, why did you go overboard? Leo brought this maid into the house. If he sees her like this when he returns, he’ll go berserk!”
Martin, on the other hand, sat on the side, playing with the antique he had recently acquired, with no intention of getting involved in the commotion.
Ethan thought this maid was brought in by Jessica, so that’s why he acted so recklessly. Now that Jessica claimed Leo had brought her, things had become complicated.
After being beaten by Leo the day before, Ethan had developed some fear towards him.
Paige, despite feeling a bit nervous and wary of Leo, couldn’t appear weak. She stood her ground and said, “It’s just teaching a maid a lesson, what could Leo possibly have a problem with? That waste of space.”
“My mother is right, it’s perfectly normal for the master to teach the servants,” Ethan regained some of his courage.
But it was Jessica who knew Leo the best. She reminded them, “Leo values this servant greatly. If he finds out you’ve beaten her, he won’t just let it slide. We need to figure out a way to handle this before he returns.”
Paige had an idea, “I know! Let’s say she injured herself while cleaning.”
Jessica looked at Paige as if she had lost her mind, “What kind of idea is that? Whether it was a beating or an injury, anyone can tell at a glance. Leo is no fool.”
“Aunt Jessica, how about we just ask her to leave? When Leo comes back, we’ll say she left on her own,” Ethan suggested, thinking it was a brilliant idea.
Jessica frowned and considered, “This… does seem feasible.”
“Then it’s settled. We’ll ask her to leave, and I’ll stay behind to do the housework. I Dr. Davy’t ask for much, just a few grand a month, and that’ll be fine. How about it?” Paige asked with a hopeful tone.
Paige’s hidden agenda wasn’t lost on Jessica, but she smirked and said, “Paige, we can discuss your job search later. Right now, we need to get rid of this maid as quickly as possible while Leo is not back yet.”
“Jessica, what’s your plan for getting her to leave? We’ll follow your lead,” Paige wasn’t foolish; her son had Dr. Davye the beating, so responsibility had to be shared, and Jessica was going down with them.
Although Jessica was reluctant, she considered herself the master of the house and had to lead by example. She squatted down, facing the injured Nora who was still on the ground, and said, “Nora, I’ll be honest with you. I’m not satisfied with your work over the past few days. I Dr. Davy’t think you’re suitable for this job, so it’s better if you find work elsewhere.”
Upon hearing that she was going to be dismissed, Nora, despite the pain, struggled to sit up and then knelt in front of Jessica, pleading, “Madame, please Dr. Davy’t send me away. If you think I’ve Dr. Davye something wrong, I’ll correct it. My daughter is in school now, and I need the money. Please, I beg you…”
Jessica stood up, looking down at Nora with a disdainful expression, “Dr. Davy’t pull this act on me. If you Dr. Davy’t want to be beaten again, pack your things and leave now.”
Nora’s face contorted in despair. She was grateful to Leo, and she was well aware of the animosity between Leo and his mother. If she insisted on staying and reported today’s incident to Leo, it would surely intensify the family conflict between the son-in-law and mother-in-law.
To avoid putting Leo in a difficult position, leaving was the only choice, even if it was out of necessity.
With her decision made, Nora stood up slowly despite the pain, wiped a tear from the corner of her eye, and said, “Madam, I’ll leave.”
Nora turned away and limped towards the guest room.
