“A useless son-in-law actually managed to withstand Bevis’s fierce punch. What’s wrong with this world? Did I teleport to an alternate dimension where this is a fake fight?”
“It’s like a cat playing with a mouse. Bevis could have easily knocked this guy out with one punch. He must have been toying with him, teasing him first before finishing him off!”
“Bevis, stop fooling around and just finish him!”
The crowd of Bevis supporters who had bet on his victory began shouting. They had little patience for Bevis toying with his opponent, the useless son-in-law on the stage.
Leo stood there, arms crossed, a smirk on his face. He could have easily defeated Bevis with a single blow, but that would be too boring. If he wanted to truly break someone’s spirit, he had to do it slowly, like boiling a frog in warm water.
The previous exchange of punches had made it clear to Bevis that despite Leo’s status as a reputed useless son-in-law, he was a formidable opponent. The terrifying force that had rebounded onto him was no ordinary feat.
Bevis’s fear and apprehension only fueled his rage. He was determined to prove himself now. It was a showdown of who had the stronger fists.
With a low growl, Bevis lunged at Leo once more.
“Boom, boom, boom…”
The sound of fists striking was like a drumbeat, echoing through the underground arena.
Leo’s body remained still, and every time Bevis’s fist came at him, Leo effortlessly met it with his own fist. It was as if he was swatting away a pesky fly.
The spectators around the ring stared wide-eyed, witnessing the unbelievable spectacle. Some began to suspect that Leo was playing with Bevis.
It felt like watching an ant trying to fight an elephant. The impact was so one-sided that it was almost comical.
One bettor rubbed his eyes in disbelief. “Can someone tell me if I’m seeing things? How can a useless son-in-law resist Bevis’s punches so effortlessly?”
“Bevis must be pretending to hold back, toying with him first, and then he’ll finish off that useless guy!”
“Are you blind? Clearly, Leo is the one toying with Bevis. Look at how relaxed he is, as if Bevis’s punches were made of cotton.”
“This is insane. How can this be happening?”
“Bevis, finish this useless guy already. Are you even trying?”
“This is ridiculous! He’s just playing with us. He’s going to make us lose everything, even our underwear!”
“Trash! Useless piece of crap! Can’t even beat a worthless loser!”
“I’m done for! I bet my entire fortune on Bevis, and today it’s all going down the drain!”
Bevis’s lackluster performance led to an outburst of curses from the crowd that had previously supported him. The relentless insults left Bevis feeling rattled, but the more flustered he became, the less likely it seemed for him to defeat Leo.
With a furious shout, Bevis summoned all his remaining strength and threw one final punch at Leo.
“Bang!”
Bevis’s fist struck Leo’s like hitting a solid steel plate. Leo remained unmoved.
In the next moment, a powerful shockwave erupted, and Bevis was sent flying.
“Boom!”
Bevis’s massive body crashed back onto the platform, and another spurt of blood escaped his lips. He tried to push himself up from the platform but managed only a feeble attempt before collapsing like a defeated dog.
Leo clapped his hands and walked over to Bevis, a cold smile on his face. “How does it feel to be toyed with before being beaten down?”
“You win. Do what you want with me,” Bevis said through gritted teeth, his stubbornness still evident.
Leo looked down at him with an air of superiority. “I’ll repeat my offer. If you pledge allegiance to me, I’ll recommend to Bob that you manage this underground arena. Think about it.”
“Damn it, don’t act all noble in front of me. I don’t need your pity!” Bevis, wounded and defiant, resembled a wounded wild stallion.
Leo finally stood up and waved his hand dismissively. “Since you refuse, then go.”
“Are you… really letting me go?” Bevis was astonished, thinking he must have misunderstood something.
“Of course. If I wanted to keep you, I could have killed you.” Leo stated matter-of-factly.
Bevis struggled to get up from the ground. He looked at Leo with a mixture of disbelief and curiosity. The man who everyone called a useless son-in-law and a freeloader possessed such incredible strength. It was beyond his comprehension.
Bevis had expected Leo to make him a cripple at the very least, but instead, Leo was letting him walk away. Such magnanimity was rare.
After giving Leo another deep look, Bevis managed to climb down from the platform, leaving amidst the crowd’s jeers and taunts.
Bevis’s defeat had turned the tide in the underground arena.
Once Leo stepped off the platform, Bob, despite his injuries, approached him and praised, “Leo, you’re truly something.”
Leo looked at Chasel and instructed, “Chasel, arrange for someone to track and investigate Bevis. Find out everything about him. I want to know his true identity.”
Chasel hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to follow this order, as Bob was his boss.
Seeing Chasel’s hesitation, Bob’s face darkened, and he said sternly, “Leo’s orders are my orders. What are you waiting for?”
“Mr. Abe, understood. I’ll arrange it immediately,” Chasel quickly responded.
Once Chasel had left, Bob struggled to open his swollen eyes and looked at Leo. “Do you really intend to recruit that Bevis?”
“I have this idea,” Leo nodded and looked at Bob with a wry smile, “You will scare your wife with that swollen face. Let me treat your injuries first.”
In a room within the arena, Leo used acupuncture techniques to reduce swelling and alleviate Bob’s pain.
“Leo, Bevis is indeed a formidable fighter. It’s a good idea to try to bring him on board.”
“Your underground arena needs someone like Bevis. I have an idea. If we can recruit him, we can put him in charge of managing this place. What do you think?”
“I agree. Losing someone like him to the enemy would be a significant loss. But that guy is stubborn. Convincing him won’t be easy,” Bob said after some consideration.
“As long as he’s alive, he’ll have weaknesses we can exploit. We just need to find those weaknesses to make him submit,” Leo replied confidently.
“That makes sense. I’ll have Chasel speed up the investigation,” Bob agreed.
Leo pondered for a moment and added, “I believe that Bevis’s sudden appearance in your arena and the trouble he caused must be orchestrated by someone behind the scenes.”
