Soon, the odds for the match in the underground boxing ring were announced. Betting on Bevis had odds of 1. 2, while betting on Leo had odds of 5. 0!
In other words, if you bet a hundred dollars on Bevis and he won, you’d earn twenty dollars after deducting your initial bet. If you bet a hundred dollars on Leo and he won, you’d earn four hundred dollars!
With such disparate odds, the enthusiasm among the spectators surged, and almost ninety percent of them placed their bets on Bevis. Even the underground boss Bob, who had recently lost to Bevis, had people’s trust in Bevis’s strength.
“Today is definitely the craziest day since this underground boxing ring opened. Including Bob, Bevis has achieved fifteen consecutive victories!”
“Do you think this guy who just stepped onto the stage can defeat Bevis?”
“How is that even possible? The height difference is clear; I bet that guy won’t last a single round against Bevis!”
“The guy who just stepped onto the stage looks familiar; I remember where I’ve seen him… He’s that Langstel guy, the famous useless son-in-law who married into the second-rate Henley family four years ago. His name is Leo Bloomer!”
“Unbelievable! A useless son-in-law, a freeloader, dares to challenge Bevis? Is he tired of living?”
“I think he must have been frustrated with his life as a useless son-in-law, so he came here seeking some attention!”
“Interesting! Just wait; this useless guy will definitely cry like a woman in front of Bevis.”
“I can’t believe it! I must have lost my mind. I placed a bet on Leo Bloomer to win! No, I need to increase my bet and bet on Bevis!”
As the onlookers learned of Leo’s identity, their cheers for Bevis quickly turned into mocking taunts.
“Freeloader, this isn’t the place for you. Go back home and continue leeching off a woman!”
“Bevis, don’t hold back. Make sure to thoroughly beat this useless son-in-law and let him know that there are places he should never set foot in.”
“D*mn, a freeloader like him doesn’t even deserve Bevis to fight him. I could go up there and knock him out, then rub his face on the mat.”
The noisy crowd around them faded into the background as Bevis grappled with his growing unease. Leo emanated an aura of extreme danger, making Bevis’s heart fill with an unfamiliar sense of dread, a fear of a true powerhouse.
Despite the substantial height difference, in Bevis’s eyes, Leo resembled an insurmountable mountain, and he found himself looking up in awe. Bevis’s confidence wavered.
Why on earth was he feeling this way? After all, Leo was just a freeloading son-in-law, someone he should be able to crush effortlessly, like squashing an ant. Was it because of that one punch earlier?
His thoughts were in disarray, and for a moment, Bevis hesitated to strike Leo. The spectators below the ring couldn’t contain their impatience.
“The atmosphere feels off; Bevis seems a bit afraid of that useless son-in-law.”
“Don’t be ridiculous; Bevis is probably strategizing how to make a clean and swift victory over that useless son-in-law.”
“Do you see that expression on the useless son-in-law’s face? He doesn’t seem to be the least bit afraid. Could he think he can beat Bevis?”
“Nonsense! He’s probably scared stiff! If a useless son-in-law can defeat Bevis, then we’re all worse than useless!”
“Bevis, finish him off! Don’t just stand there!”
“Useless son-in-law, surrender now!”
Leo’s lips curled into a faint, cold smile as he looked at Bevis. “You’ve defeated fourteen fighters in this arena, and even Bob. Honestly, your boxing skills are impressive.”
Leo’s words gave Bevis some relief, as he thought that Leo’s earlier bravado might have been an act, and now he was trying to make amends. Bevis’s self-confidence and sense of superiority returned, and he sneered at Leo.
“Considering that you’re just a useless son-in-law, I’ll give you a chance. Kneel before me, kowtow three times and then surrender. I’ll allow you to leave the ring unscathed.”
A wicked grin appeared on Leo’s face. “I’ll give you a choice as well. Swear allegiance to me as your boss, and I can recommend you to Bob to manage this underground arena. Otherwise, you’ll leave here lying down today.”
Bevis laughed contemptuously. “Kid, do you think I’d be scared by a freeloading son-in-law like you? Let me tell you the truth: when I was sweeping across battlefields, you were probably cuddled up in a woman’s embrace, crying!”
Leo shook his head with a bitter smile. “Ignorance is the greatest sin. Since you don’t believe what I say, let’s settle this with our fists. I’ll use pain to make you see the truth.”
Leo stood with his hands behind his back, his posture straight and unwavering. If he were dressed in white, he would have looked like a martial arts master from another world.
Bevis’s expression darkened, and his muscles bulged as he tensed up. A series of cracking sounds echoed from his body as his muscles expanded. Although Bevis despised men who lived off others, Leo’s earlier punch and his unwavering aura had made one thing clear to Bevis: Leo had genuine skills.
He was determined to put this useless son-in-law down with a single blow and then stomp on his face with his foot!
In the blink of an eye, Bevis stood in front of Leo, his massive frame resembling a sledgehammer. He launched a punch toward Leo’s face like a powerful hammer blow.
Leo clenched his fist and met Bevis’s punch head-on.
*Boom!*
In the battle between experts, there was no room for flashy moves. The two fists collided, creating a shockwave that felt like a gust of wind to those nearby.
The spectators surrounding the ring held their breath, and the previously noisy atmosphere of the arena fell silent.
Except for the few who had bet on Leo’s victory, most people were waiting for Leo to be sent flying by Bevis with a single punch.
But the fact was, their fists clashed, and Leo easily absorbed the full force of Bevis’s furious punch. In the next moment, Leo unleashed a terrifying surge of power from his fist, causing Bevis to grunt and step back repeatedly.
“What’s going on?!” Bevis exclaimed internally, bewildered by the situation unfolding before him. How could a universally recognized useless son-in-law withstand his punch, which had seven-tenths of his full power behind it?
A sense of immense shame washed over Bevis, and he stared at the unmoving Leo in front of him, his heart filled with chill.
“I can’t believe it… What just happened? Why couldn’t Bevis knock down that useless son-in-law with one punch? Instead, he’s the one backing away? This makes no sense!”
