Hearing this, Leo understood that this police officer must be a member of Madame Godwin’s team.
“Where’s Madame Godwin?” Leo asked him directly.
“Wow, are you close to her?” Lesley Yonng’s face wore a strange expression.
Leo was at a loss for words. This cop was quite audacious. In the midst of all this chaos, he had the nerve to engage in small talk.
“These criminals have heavy firepower. Please tell me where she is,” Leo urged anxiously.
Lesley extended his hand and pointed in a certain direction ahead. “She and some SWAT members should be over there.”
Leo didn’t waste any time talking. His figure disappeared in front of Lesley’s eyes.
Watching Leo disappear into the woods, Lesley muttered to himself, “Why is this man so concerned about our Madame? Could it be that he has a crush on Madame Godwin?”
Lesley quickly shook his head, dismissing these absurd thoughts, and returned to the ongoing battle.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
Gunshots and explosions continued unabated. The once open campsite was now ablaze, with some surrounding trees shattered and others burning, casting a fiery glow into the night.
Master Moulton and Jonathan Mac were well aware that being captured meant certain death, so they fought desperately.
As Leo approached the area Lesley had indicated, he hid behind a large tree. He activated his spiritual power and began a careful search.
In the woods, Leo saw one police officer after another in his sight. They were constantly firing back at the attackers, and he noticed two officers who had been shot and were lying on the ground.
Leo suddenly locked onto a silhouette. It was none other than Madame Godwin.
Madame Godwin’s profile was illuminated by the distant fires, and she was leaning against a large tree. Blood trickled from her mouth, and though she wore a bulletproof vest, it had been pierced by bullets, staining her with blood-either her own or her teammates’.
The two police officers who had been shot earlier were close to Madame Godwin.
Facing the intensified firepower from the opposite side, the police officers began to retreat. In the darkness, nobody noticed Madame Godwin leaning against the tree.
Leo quickly ducked his head, feeling the intense rain of bullets striking the tree trunk.
Especially the tree trunk that Madame Godwin was leaning against had been riddled with large holes due to the relentless bullet onslaught.
If this continued, that tree would inevitably be brought down by the bullets.
Madame Godwin closed her eyes in agony. Despite having become a cop, she had long put her own life on the line, but when faced with actual death, many regrets and attachments resurfaced.
She couldn’t bear the thought of leaving behind her stern father, her loving mother, her comrades she fought alongside…
During a brief lull in the gunfire, Leo rushed towards Madame Godwin.
It seemed like she sensed something, as she opened her eyes.
When she saw Leo’s face clearly, Madame Godwin tried to say something, but not a word came out. Instead, more blood trickled from her lips.
“It’s lucky that I’m here in time…”
Madame Godwin’s vision began to blur, and she heard these words.
An illusion, it must be her imagination. How could this guy possibly be here?
Soon, Madame Godwin felt her body being lifted off the ground. She clearly felt warmth coming from another person.
Madame Godwin struggled to open her eyes, trying to regain some clarity in her thoughts.
Leo’s face began to come into focus in her vision.
“Y-you, Leo? Are you Leo Bloomer?” Madame Godwin whispered almost inaudibly.
Leo quietly infused a bit of his spiritual power into Madame Godwin’s body, mending her injuries. “It’s me. You’re the chief, yet you’re not commanding from a safe position. Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
Feeling the pain in her body starting to ease and regaining some strength, Madame Godwin replied with a mournful tone, “My colleagues, what happened to them?”
Madame Godwin clearly remembered seeing two of them lying on the ground before she was shot.
Just then, not far from them, a loud roar echoed, “Die!”
In Madame Godwin’s eyes, she saw a grenade arcing through the air.
“Leo, don’t mind me, just go!” Madame Godwin tried to wriggle out of Leo’s arms. Tears welled up in her eyes as she feared that Leo would risk his life to save her.
“Don’t worry. Where that grenade came from, it can return.” Leo smiled gently and used his control over objects to manipulate the grenade.
The criminal who had thrown the grenade expected it to hit both of them, but to his astonishment, the grenade suddenly flew back toward him.
The thug’s eyes widened in disbelief. The grenade exploded right in front of him, tearing him to pieces.
While controlling the grenade’s flight, Leo had already moved Madame Godwin to take cover behind a tree, so neither of them was harmed by the explosion.
“Du du du…”
The other thug, witnessing his comrade being blown to pieces, raised his machine gun and began wildly spraying bullets towards the tree trunk where the two were taking cover.
A violet light flashed, and suddenly, the gunfire ceased.
The thug, with the gun still raised, toppled backward. Blood spurted continuously from his neck.
“You… Did you kill those two thugs?” When the gunfire ceased, Madame Godwin finally regained her composure and stared at Leo in disbelief.
Thinking back to the eerie case with the bank robbers the last time, Madame Godwin tightly gripped Leo’s arm. “Why didn’t you appear earlier? Maybe my colleagues wouldn’t have died…”
Leo couldn’t help but gasped. Madame Godwin’s grip was incredibly strong, and her nails had even dug into his skin a bit.
“Silly girl, it took me quite a while to find you. I didn’t have time to save others,” Leo sighed with a hint of pain.
Madame Godwin’s gaze dimmed for a moment, and she let go of Leo’s arm with her left hand.
“It was my underestimation of these thugs. It’s my fault they…,” Madame Godwin’s voice grew weak again, filled with self-blame.
“It’s not your fault. Stop blaming yourself. Let’s get back.” Leo held Madame Godwin and quickly headed toward where Lesley Yonng was.
Seeing Leo with a bloodied Madame Godwin in his arms, Lesley’s face turned pale as he exclaimed, “Madame!”
