Chapter 137: Unforeseen Twists

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Grace was born into a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, with generations engaged in the field. This made her fully aware of the challenges of studying Chinese medicine. Normally, even those with remarkable aptitude in Chinese medicine wouldn’t achieve much without decades of accumulated experience.
But now, her father was calling him a miraculous doctor. This showed just how extraordinary the young man’s medical skills were.
Leo approached Grace and smiled, “Miss Davy, hello, I’m Leo.”
“Hello, I’m Grace,” Grace replied politely.
“May I take a look at your legs?” Leo asked, looking into Grace’s eyes.
Grace nodded, “Of course.”
Subsequently, Grace extended her hands, gripping the hem of her dress and slowly pulling it up.
Her legs were gradually revealed, stopping at her knees as she halted her movement.
Seeing Grace’s legs, Renee’s mouth slightly opened in astonishment.
Grace’s legs appeared somewhat shocking. To put it bluntly, it looked as if skin was wrapped around bones, with hardly any muscle beneath the skin.
After just a glance, Leo averted his gaze and then turned to Grace, saying, “I can help you stand again.”
“Really!?” Grace and Dr. Davy exclaimed in unison, their faces lit up with surprise.
Dr. Davy, in particular, was in disbelief. He asked, “Leo, young miracle worker, can you truly make Grace stand again?”
Leo earnestly nodded, replying, “Absolutely.”
With Leo’s affirmation, a radiant transformation washed over Dr. Davy’s previously downcast face. He was now ecstatic, exclaiming, “If you can help Grace stand again, I’ll gift you this clinic. I’m going to draft the agreement now!”
Leo waved his hand, “No need for that. I trust Dr. Davy. I’ll begin by treating Miss Davy’s legs.”
“Alright. Is there anything you need to prepare?” Dr. Davy was impatient. The chance of his daughter standing again had been his sole dream in recent years.
Now, it seemed that this dream was on the verge of realization.
“I’ll be using acupuncture. It’s not convenient to do it here. Take Miss Davy to her bedroom and let her lie down on the bed,” Leo suggested.
Just as Dr. Davy was about to push the wheelchair, a woman’s voice sounded, “Grace, I’ve brought an excellent doctor working with Dr. Lee to treat your legs.”
Leo turned to look and found it was none other than Fanny!
How did Fanny know Grace? From the way she spoke, it seemed like they were quite familiar. Leo was taken aback by this unexpected connection.
The world was indeed small. Fanny’s arrival meant that today’s events might take an unexpected turn.
With Fanny came a young man of Leo’s age, carrying a medical kit over his shoulder.
Given that Fanny had mentioned Dr. Lee earlier, could he be Dr. Lee’s disciple?
Soon, Fanny spotted Leo. However, rather than recognizing him immediately, she gazed at Dr. Davy and said, “Mr. Davy, I’ve brought Philip Bethune to help Grace with her legs.”
Philip approached Dr. Davy, smiling, “Mr. Davy, hello.”
Dr. Davy scrutinized Philip, then realized, “You’re Philip Bethune, the eldest disciple among Dr. Lee’s nine students?”
Philip nodded, “Indeed, sir.”
Though Fanny saw Leo, she didn’t call him right away. Instead, she looked at Dr. Davy and smiled, “Mr. Davy, Philip and I are good friends. He’s made significant advancements in medicine recently. That’s why I brought him to help Grace.”
“Philip, your mentor, Dr. Lee, recently examined my daughter’s legs. He couldn’t find a way to heal her, so-” Dr. Davy didn’t want to waste any more time.
“Mr. Davy, let Philip take a look. The student might surpass the master. Perhaps Philip has a way to heal her,” Fanny was determined. She had gone through the trouble of bringing Philip here; she wasn’t ready to give up.
Dr. Davy shook his head, “Fanny, thank you for your goodwill, but I’ve already asked Leo to treat her.”
“Leo? Him!” Fanny pointed at Leo, wearing a baffled expression. “Mr. Davy, have you been deceived by this freeloading waste? How could he, a good-for-nothing, dare to call himself a doctor?”
“Fanny, you mustn’t be disrespectful to Leo,” Dr. Davy frowned.
Fanny walked up to Leo, her tone haughty, “Leo, how did you end up here?”
“How did you end up here?” Leo shot back.
“Of course, I’ve brought a marvelous doctor to treat my dear friend’s legs!” Fanny’s head lifted slightly.
“I’m here to treat Miss Davy’s legs too.”
“You?!” Fanny burst into laughter, as though she had heard the world’s funniest joke.
Grace, seated in her wheelchair, looked curious, “Fanny, do you know Leo?”
“Not only do I know him, but we’re also quite familiar,” Fanny’s face showed a disdainful expression. “He’s quite the celebrity in our Henley family. A freeloading son-in-law who married into our family.”
“Son-in-law?” Grace’s expression changed.
“Yes, up until this year, he’s been married to Sophia for four years. You mustn’t be fooled by him. In these four years, he’s been idle, unable to find a job. How could he possibly possess medical skills?” Fanny confidently stated.
Then Fanny turned her gaze toward Leo again, pointing at him and exclaimed, “Leo, I don’t know how you managed to trick your way in here. If you dare to harm Grace, mark my words, you and I will have a serious problem!”
Fanny’s revelation surprised Dr. Davy, but he had witnessed Leo’s medical skills firsthand; they were unquestionable. He coughed, “Fanny, perhaps you’ve misunderstood Leo. I’ve seen his skills with my own eyes. They’re genuine.”
“Well, Leo, I didn’t think you’d manage to deceive Uncle Davy so thoroughly. I really underestimated you.” In Fanny’s memory, Leo was nothing more than a pushover. “Now get lost immediately, or else-”
“Or else what?” Leo looked at her with interest.
This was the first time Fanny had seen such an expression on Leo’s face. Her anger flared up, “Or else, I’ll slap you. Do you believe me?”
“Sure, go ahead and slap me.”
Fanny, provoked by Leo, raised her right hand and swung it toward his cheek.
However, she missed her target, her wrist caught mid-swing.
It wasn’t Leo who held her wrist; it was Renee.
“Miss, please show some respect,” Renee’s tone was stern.
Fanny retracted her right hand, glancing at Renee, “And who are you?”
“I’m Leo’s friend.”
“You, Leo! While Sophia is out there working her heart out to earn a living, you’re out here fooling around with other women. I’m going to tell Sophia!” Fanny yelled angrily.
