Esmeralda
Confusion slapped me hard on the face as I froze on a spot, digesting what had happened some minutes ago.
Did the Alpha just walk past me like I was a nobody?
Did he just yell at me like we were strangers?
Did he just order me with his Alpha voice that I don’t get to call him by his name, except I used his title before it?
Goddess!
What in the world was happening to me? To him? To us? To our relationship?
As much as I tried to think about the reason behind his cold attitude, I couldn’t comprehend it.
I couldn’t lay my hands on what could possibly be the reason.
All I knew was that he left for the Crescent Moon Pack to avenge my maltreatment and if my memory serves me correctly, he left happily. We never had any misunderstandings.
But why was he all grumpy?
Was this all a dream? Then someone should wake me up as fast as possible.
My heart began to race at an unusual pace.
Does this mean… or relationship has…
No!
Not when my wolf was awake after all these years and had finally recognized him.
What should I do… Yes…
I was going to meet him. Maybe we could communicate and clear our differences.
Someone must have poisoned Alpha Kade’s mind toward me considering how they hated me in that Pack.
That must be it.
That bastard old Alpha and maybe Garry.
“What just happened, Esmeralda?” Selene and Jade chorused when they had found their voices.
“I’m equally confused,” I replied in a shaky voice, swallowing hard afterwards.
I was a thin line away from spilling tears.
But I won’t cry.
First, I would sort out all of these misunderstandings, then we will become happy again.
Without glancing at them, I proceed to take the path that Silvius and Alpha Kade had taken.
“No!” Selene rushed to me, refraining from taking further steps.
I threw a curious glance at her as I was too weak to protest.
“You can’t go there,” She said, emphasizing on every word.
“But he is my mate,” I managed to say, blinking my eyes several times to stop the burning tears from spilling.
“No. That is not Alpha Kade that I know. That was a monster,” Jade said in a shaky voice, “Didn’t you see the way he glared at me as if he wanted to pounce on me,”
“I know, but regardless…”
“Regardless, bullshit, Esmeralda. Even if you want to go and talk with him, now is not the right time. Give him time. Maybe in the evening,”
“Selene, I don’t care if he is not in the right frame of mind. I just want to see him. I can’t think, I can’t even breathe well. My head is blank, I feel like I’m going to…”
“Calm down, Esme. He would hurt you if you go close to him. Trust me, I’ve lived in this Park for years, I was born here. I’ve worked in this mansion since I came of age and I’ve seen this side of Alpha Kade. Listen to Selene, don’t see Alpha Kade now. When he is calm, you can go,” Jade advised, patting my shoulder.
I sniffed, “So when will he be normal to talk to?”
“As a good friend, I would advise you to avoid him. Don’t even see him, else, you won’t like the consequences. Then you can wait for two days before talking to him. He would have been a little calm,”
“Isn’t that…”
“No, I’m not exaggerating. I’m fucking serious. I know this Alpha more than you do. His anger is like that of a wounded lion. He could rip you to pieces without thinking twice,” Jade explained.
“He wouldn’t possibly do that to me since I was his mate,” I argued, shrugging my shoulders, “He can’t hurt me, can he?”
“Only if you break some rules, some serious rules. You would leave him no choice,”
How was that even possible when I had broken every rule he told me since I was here?
I even entered the forbidden North wing and spoke with his sister.
“But I’ve always been breaking rules…”
“That was just your luck that he didn’t rip you apart, because I am still surprised till date. Don’t take advantage of that. You might not be lucky this time,” Jade warned. I could sniff her fears and seriousness.
“He can’t possibly hurt me knowing I helped him bring Amelia back,” I argued.
“Look, anything concerning Alpha Kade, count me out. He can do the unimaginable sometimes. And he is unpredictable. So be careful,”
“You can stay with us till when he is fine then you will meet him and talk to him,” Selene said before pulling me in a warm embrace.
But that was not enough.
No advice could stop me from not seeing my mate. I wasn’t going to wait for two days.
How would I even live? How would I sleep well?
Without thinking twice, I pulled out of Selene’s grip and ran upstairs.
“Esme, don’t,” Selene screamed as if I was going into the den of a lion.
“Poor girl,” I could hear Jade’s cracky voice. It was as if pitying me.
I ran through the hallway swiftly and in no time, I got to Alpha Kade’s quarters, breathing heavily.
I opened the large double doors and proceeded inside, before standing before the door to his bedroom.
His powerful and deadly aura blasted the whole area. I knew he was inside.
Using my wolf’s hearing, I could hear him pacing about the room.
He was worried too. The same way I was.
I stood at the door for a few minutes without knocking.
I didn’t know what to do.
I tried to open the door but I couldn’t. It was like I didn’t have control of my hands anymore.
Fear gripped me hard at the thought of entering the room.
Even if I entered the room, what would I say?
“What is the problem, mate? Talk to me,”
No, that was stupid.
“Or Is something the matter, Alpha Kade? Share them with me. I am your mate,”
Ugh!
Maybe I should have stayed downstairs and listened to Jade and Selene.
“Enter, Esmeralda,” Emerald’s voice boomed in my head.
“So you think it’s a good idea?”
“I don’t know,”
Silence ensued again as I stared at the door knob.
“Gather it together, Esmeralda,” I mumbled to myself.
My hands shook when they came in contact with the door knob. Slowly, I turned it, opened it and entered inside as quietly as a mouse.
Power. Rage. Dominance and more were evident in his aura.
It was so strong that my body quivered and I bowed in submission.
He suddenly stopped pacing the room when he sensed someone entering the room.
“You were not invited,” His angry voice boomed, echoing in my ears and hurting me and Emerald.
“I know. I just came to check on you… And maybe to talk…” I said before raising my head to look at him briefly.
His expression was stone cold.
I had seen him angry several times, but I hadn’t seen this enraged.
What could be the problem?
The silence grew uncomfortably.
“I have my wolf now,” I cleared my throat, breaking the silence.
“Congratulations,” He replied coldly.
Really? Congratulations?
“Isn’t it something to be happy about?” I questioned, taking a few steps toward him.
“Maybe for you,”
“Okay. Enough of this. What is the matter with you, Kade? You’ve been acting weird and it’s scary,”
Surprised filled me at my words.
“You should be,”
“What is going on? Did I offend you? I’m sorry,” I pleaded, proceeding to hug him but he placed his hand before me, blocking me.
“The question should be, why did you choose to hurt me this bad?”
I could smell pain wafting through him.
Pain and sadness.
“What… do you mean?” I stammered in confusion.
“Who is Lucy?” He demanded again and I shook my head.
“I don’t know her,”
“I am no Alpha if I can’t detect a lie and you are lying,” He said, pinning his gaze on me.
“I am not…” I tried to argue but he cut me off quickly.
Why was he this mean?
What was he even talking about?
“Lucy snaked her way into this Pack just like you did. And now, you leave me no choice but to apply rule number 5,” His dangerous smirk played on his face, causing me to shudder in fear.
“You see, Lucy took something from me, from this Pack and I am certain that you have come to finish up Lucy’s mission since she didn’t kill me,”
“I don’t understand…”
“You will when you are behind the cell again,” He emphasized every word in hatred.
Cell? What does he mean by that?
Anger oozes out of him like a cloud of smoke as he pinned those icy green eyes on me.
Fear cloaked me like a garment at his words and I tried to run away from his sight, but his hands caught me in no time.
Jade and Selene were right. I should have listened to them.
The Alpha wasn’t in the right frame of mind and he is taking rash decisions.
But one thing I was certain of…
That old bastard must have told him something!
