Esmeralda
Stifling a horrifying scream for the fear of being heard. I sprinted past the hallway in no time, running like the wind with horror plastered on my face like I had seen a ghost.
Truly, I had just seen and heard one.
A ghost was in the North wing!
What was that fuck was that?
A ghost.
Certainly, that wasn’t a ghost.
“Help me,” It’s voice filled my head once more, confirming my doubt.
Ghosts don’t ask for help.
That must be a human.
A human was trapped in the North wing.
But by who? Alpha Kade?
I hope it wasn’t my psycho mate.
Was the human his prisoner?
I wondered what offence the person committed.
A human was trapped in the North wing. I was sure it was a human. Despite being horrified by those faint words, I took a risk turning behind me to confirm I wasn’t alone before dashing out of the room, but I was met with a chair, a huge one, made of strong iron, with chains tied around it.
Despite the darkness of the room and the high chair, I could swear that I saw strands of hair scattered around it.
A loud gasp tore from my lips as my eyes widened in realization.
It was a girl!
And she needed help. Her words confirmed it.
Halting quickly and turning in the direction of the North wing, I debated within me to go back to the wing and help the poor girl.
I had to.
I hated seeing helpless people, it reminded me of myself.
I had to do something.
She was in danger, she was in pain.
I was certain that she had been locked in there for a long time. Her weak shaky voice confirmed it.
“Help me,” Her voice filled my head once more as if calling me to free her from her endless mystery.
It was so faint, so weak that it came as a whisper, lost in the wind.
So faint that the ears of an average human won’t grasp.
Maybe my ears decided on playing tricks on me. But how was that possible when I heard her tiny voice clearly.
Argh!
I groaned in agony as I was torn between helping her and saving myself. Helping her meant trouble that I couldn’t risk being in.
Going back to the North wing was a bad idea that I know I will regret as the jerkings were even louder than ever.
“Fuck!” I groaned again as I watched the North wing helplessly.
I couldn’t help her.
So sad.
A new feeling of rage stirred up within me as I reluctantly tore my gaze from the direction of the North wing.
Fuck Alpha Kade!
He was no mate of mine. He was a monster!
A monster that kept people captive.
Helpless people.
Helpless people like me. And it was only a matter of time before he locked me and shut me in the North wing, forgetting me to rotin there.
Bastard!
That wouldn’t happen. I will rather become a lone wolf than to be shut behind the unfriendly room of the North wing.
I must escape from this strange place. And I must do it now.
Turning the door knob to my room, I crashed on the pink bed, wailing my eyes out to my satisfaction, before reprimanding myself.
I should be plotting an escape plan, not crying.
Crying wouldn’t solve anything.
“Esmeralda?” A voice called, startling me.
I tilted my head to see Jade and Selene watching me, worry etched on their faces.
I should have known they wouldn’t go easily.
“You haven’t gone yet?” I asked, hurriedly wiping my stained cheeks with the back of my palms and forcing a smile, “I thought you had gone…”
A gasp from them interrupted me as they pinned their eyes on my head.
“What is it? Why are you…”
“You are bleeding? Is it the Alpha? What did he do to you?” Jade asked with concern laced in her voice.
“He better not lay a finger on you,” Selene’s cracked voice shook as her fingers carefully inspected the cut on my forehead.
“It’s bleeding,” She dug her teeth into her lips, biting it hard.
She was close to tears.
She hated seeing me hurt.
“That wasn’t from the Alpha,” I stated, watching their faces soften in relief. But the doubt on Selene’s face reappeared.
“Then it was from whom?”
“Why are you back early? And why are you crying?”
I shut my eyes and suspended my hand in the air, “One question at a time!” I half-screamed. My head began to throb at their endless questions.
Selene’s small figure sat close to me, her blazing green eyes demanded answers as she pinned them on mine, “What did the Alpha do to you this time? You were crying,” Her soft hand grabbed mine, giving it a squeeze.
Flinching from her as an unsettling feeling swept through me, my hands darted to her face, “Your eyes… they are doing that thing they do whenever you get extremely angry,”
“Oh,” Selene gasped in embarrassment before closing her eyes briefly, “So what did that son of a bitch do to you?” She asked, gritting her teeth.
“Hey, that is the Alpha!” Jade screamed in disbelief, “You can’t call the Alpha names,”
A loud sneer rolled from Selene’s lips, “Says who?” She cocked her head to meet Jade, surprised at her defense.
“Says me. He is the Alpha for crying out loud!”
“And your stupid Alpha hurt my best friend! Since she got here, she has never been happy. Rather than doing the needful, he introduced her as the housekeeper. Can you imagine?” She laughed, sarcasm evident in her voice.
“He should have left her in her former pack, but he brought her here to enslave her the second time,”
My eye grew wide, almost popping out of their sockets at Selene’s words. It was only a matter of time before she revealed who I was out of anger.
“Selene, it’s enough,” I cautioned, pinning her with a glare. But her eyes burned brighter with anger and heat radiated from her body.
Selene was mad!
I had to stop her.
“No, it’s not. After making you his housekeeper, he turned you into a punching bag!” She yelled, breathless in anger.
I had to stop her from spilling the truth. Jade must not know, or I will get in trouble with the Alpha.
“What is she talking about? What does she mean by he turned you into his housekeeper?” An inquisitive Jade asked with arched brows.
“Don’t mind Selene, she lets her emotions get to her,” I said in defense, waving the topic aside, but deep down, I knew she didn’t buy it.
I would worry about that later.
Pulling Selene in a warm embrace, her heated body collapsed under my firm grip and her soft sobs filled my ears.
“It’s okay, Selene. He didn’t hit me,” I assured her, caressing her back.
“What did he do to make you cry?” Her tears filled eyes met mine and at once the event invaded my head.
“He got mad at me,” I shut my eyes, pulling Selene away from my grip.
I didn’t want to remember.
“Why?” They chorused.
“I didn’t know. He wouldn’t tell me. He just said a thing about my outfit and the room I was in. He told me to get out of them,” I said, almost choking on my tears.
Jade’s hands flew to her chest as her mouth was opened in shock, “Fuck! I forgot. How could I?” She gasped, hitting her head repeatedly.
“Forgot what?” I asked, furrowing my brows.
“You are lucky he didn’t rip you apart. I should have told your boundaries and this room is one of them,”
“Rip me apart? Why?”
This was making no sense. Why were there so many boundaries in his house?
Why would he rip me apart for entering a nice room?
What was he hiding?
“This was Alpha Kade sister’s room,”
